І сталося, як зміцніло Рехав'амове царство й став він си́льний, то покинув він, і ввесь Ізраїль із ним, Господнього Зако́на.

І сталося п'ятого року царя Рехав'ама, пішов Шішак, єгипетський цар, на Єрусали́м, — бо вони спроневі́рилися Господе́ві, —
In the fifth year of King Rehoboam, because they had been unfaithful to the Lord, Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem
з тисячею й двомаста́ми колесни́ць та з шістдесятьма́ тисячами верхівці́в: і не було числа для наро́ду, що прийшов із ним з Єгипту, — ливіянам, суккійянам та кушанам.
with 1,200 chariots and 60,000 horsemen. And the people were without number who came with him from Egypt — Libyans, Sukkiim, and Ethiopians.
І здобув він тверди́нні міста, що в Юді, і прийшов аж до Єрусали́му.
And he took the fortified cities of Judah and came as far as Jerusalem.
А пророк Шемая прийшов до Рехав'ама та Юдиних зверхників, що зібралися до Єрусалиму, утікаючи перед Шішаком, та й сказав до них: „Так сказав Госпо́дь: Ви залишили Мене, а тому Я залишив вас і видав у Шішакову руку“!
Then Shemaiah the prophet came to Rehoboam and to the princes of Judah, who had gathered at Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said to them, “Thus says the Lord, ‘You abandoned me, so I have abandoned you to the hand of Shishak.’”
І впокори́лися Ізраїлеві зверхники та цар і сказали: „Справедливий Господь!“
Then the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves and said, “The Lord is righteous.”
А коли Господь побачив, що вони впокори́лися, то було Господнє слово до Шемаї, говорячи: „Упокори́лися вони, — не нищитиму їх, але́ дам їм трохи людей на порятунок, і не виллється гнів Мій на Єрусали́м через Шішака.
When the Lord saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah: “They have humbled themselves. I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance, and my wrath shall not be poured out on Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.
Бо вони стануть йому за рабів, та й пізнають тоді службу Мені та службу царствам зе́мним“.
Nevertheless, they shall be servants to him, that they may know my service and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.”
І вийшов Шішак, єгипетський цар, на Єрусалим, і забрав ска́рби Господнього дому та ска́рби дому царе́вого, — і все позабирав. І забрав він золоті щити́, що Соломон поробив був.
So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem. He took away the treasures of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the king’s house. He took away everything. He also took away the shields of gold that Solomon had made,
А цар Рехав'ам поробив замість них мідяні щити́, і склав їх на руки зверхника сторожі́в, що стерегли́ вхід до царсько́го дому.
and King Rehoboam made in their place shields of bronze and committed them to the hands of the officers of the guard, who kept the door of the king’s house.
І бувало, як тільки цар ішов до Господнього дому, прихо́дили бігуни́, та й носили їх, а потім вертали їх до комори бігуні́в.
And as often as the king went into the house of the Lord, the guard came and carried them and brought them back to the guardroom.
А коли він впокори́вся, то відвернувся від нього Господній гнів, і не знищив його аж до вигу́блення. Та й у Юдеї були ще справи добрі.
І зміцнився цар Рехав'ам в Єрусалимі й царював. А Рехав'ам був віку сорока́ й одного року, коли зацарював, і царював він сімнадцять літ в Єрусалимі, у тому́ місті, яке вибрав Господь зо всіх Ізраїлевих племе́н, щоб покласти там Своє Ймення. А ім'я́ його матері — аммонітка Наама.
So King Rehoboam grew strong in Jerusalem and reigned. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city that the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel to put his name there. His mother’s name was Naamah the Ammonite.
І робив він лихе́, бо не схиляв свого серця, щоб звертатися до Господа.
And he did evil, for he did not set his heart to seek the Lord.
А Рехав'амові діла́, перші й останні, ото вони описані в історії пророка Шемаї та прозорливця Іддо: „Родословні книги“. І точилися ві́йни поміж Рехав'амом та Єровоамом по всі дні.
