„Уважно послухайте сло́во моє, і нехай бу́де мені це розра́дою вашою!
Hear diligently my speech, and let this be your consolations.
Перете́рпіть мені, а я промовля́тиму, — по промові ж моїй насміха́тися будеш.
Suffer me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on.
Хіба до люди́ни моє нарі́кання? Чи не мав би чого стати нетерпели́вим мій дух?
As for me, is my complaint to man? and if it were so, why should not my spirit be troubled?
Оберні́ться до мене — й жахні́ться, та руку на уста свої покладіть.
Mark me, and be astonished, and lay your hand upon your mouth.
І якщо я згадаю про це, то жаха́юсь, і морозом пройма́ється тіло моє.
Even when I remember I am afraid, and trembling taketh hold on my flesh.
Чого несправедливі живуть, доживають до ві́ку, й багатством зміцня́ються?
Wherefore do the wicked live, become old, yea, are mighty in power?
Насіння їх міцно стоїть перед ними, при них, а їхні наща́дки — на їхніх оча́х.
Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes.
Доми їхні — то спо́кій від страху, і над ними нема бича Божого.
Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them.
Спинається бик його, і не даре́мно, — зачинає корова його, й не скидає.
Their bull gendereth, and faileth not; their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf.
Вони випускають своїх молодя́т, як отару, а їх діти вибри́кують.
They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance.
Вони голос здіймають при бубні та цитрі, і веселяться при звуку сопілки.
They take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ.
Провадять в добрі свої дні, і сходять в споко́ї в шео́л.
They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave.
А до Бога говорять вони: „Уступи́ся від нас, — ми ж дорі́г Твоїх знати не хочем!
Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.
Що таке Всемогу́тній, що бу́дем служити Йому? І що́ скориста́єм, як будем благати Його?“
What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?
Та не в їхній руці добро їхнє, — дале́ка від мене порада безбожних...
Lo, their good is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
Як часто світи́льник безбожним згасає, і прихо́дить на них їх нещастя? — Він приділює в гніві Своїм на них па́стки!
How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! and how oft cometh their destruction upon them! God distributeth sorrows in his anger.
Вони будуть, немов та солома на вітрі, і немов та полова, що буря схопи́ла її!
They are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away.
„Бог ховає синам його кривду Свою“ — та нехай надолу́жить самому йому, і він зна́тиме!
God layeth up his iniquity for his children: he rewardeth him, and he shall know it.
Нехай його очі побачать нещастя його́, й бодай сам він пив гнів Всемогу́тнього!
His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty.
Яке бо стара́ння його про роди́ну по ньому, як для нього число його місяців вже перелічене?
For what pleasure hath he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst?
Чи буде хто Бога навчати знання́, Його, що й небесних суди́тиме?
Shall any teach God knowledge? seeing he judgeth those that are high.
Оцей в повній силі своїй помирає, — увесь він спокі́йний та ми́рний,
One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet.
діжки́ його повні були молока, а мі́зок косте́й його свіжий.
His breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with marrow.
А цей помирає з душею огі́рченою, і доброго не спожива́в він,
And another dieth in the bitterness of his soul, and never eateth with pleasure.
та по́рохом будуть лежати обо́є вони, і черва́ їх покриє.
They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them.
Тож я знаю думки́ ваші й за́думи, що хочете кри́вдити ними мене.
Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which ye wrongfully imagine against me.
Бож питаєте ви: Де́ князів дім, і де наме́т пробува́ння безбожних?
For ye say, Where is the house of the prince? and where are the dwelling places of the wicked?
Тож спитайтеся тих, що дорогою йдуть, а їхніх озна́к не зата́юйте:
Have ye not asked them that go by the way? and do ye not know their tokens,
що буває врято́ваний злий в день загибелі, на день гніву відво́диться в за́хист!
That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.
Хто йому́ розповість у лице про дорогу його́? А коли наробив, хто йому́ надолу́жить?
Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath done?
І на кладо́вище буде прова́джений він, і про могилу подбають.
Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb.
Ски́би долини солодкі йому́, і тя́гнеться кожна люди́на за ним, а тим, хто попе́реду нього, — немає числа.
The clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, and every man shall draw after him, as there are innumerable before him.
