І відповів Мойсей та й сказав: „Таж вони не повірять мені, і не послухають голосу мого, бо скажуть: Господь не явився тобі!“
Signs of the LORD’s Power
But Moses protested again, “What if they won’t believe me or listen to me? What if they say, ‘The LORD never appeared to you’?”

І промовив до нього Господь: „Що то в руці твоїй?“ Той відказав: „Палиця“.
Then the LORD asked him, “What is that in your hand?”
“A shepherd’s staff,” Moses replied.
“A shepherd’s staff,” Moses replied.
І сказав Він: „Кинь її на землю!“ І той кинув її на землю, — і вона стала вуже́м. І втік Мойсей від нього.
“Throw it down on the ground,” the LORD told him. So Moses threw down the staff, and it turned into a snake! Moses jumped back.
І сказав Господь до Мойсея: „Простягни свою руку, і візьми його за хвоста!“ І він простяг свою руку й узяв його, — і той став палицею в долоні його.
Then the LORD told him, “Reach out and grab its tail.” So Moses reached out and grabbed it, and it turned back into a shepherd’s staff in his hand.
„Щоб повірили, що явився тобі Господь, Бог їхніх батьків, — Бог Авраама, Бог Ісака й Бог Якова“.
“Perform this sign,” the LORD told him. “Then they will believe that the LORD, the God of their ancestors — the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob — really has appeared to you.”
І сказав Господь йому ще: „Засунь свою руку за пахви́ну свою!“ І засунув він руку свою за пахви́ну свою, і витягнув її, — аж ось рука його побіліла від прокази, як сніг!
А Він сказав: „Поклади знов свою руку за пахвину свою!“ І він поклав знову руку свою до своєї пахвини, і витягнув її з пахвини своєї, — і ось вона стала зно́ву, як тіло його.
“Now put your hand back into your cloak,” the LORD said. So Moses put his hand back in, and when he took it out again, it was as healthy as the rest of his body.
„І станеться, коли не повірять тобі, і не послухають голосу першої ознаки, то повірять голосу ознаки наступної.
The LORD said to Moses, “If they do not believe you and are not convinced by the first miraculous sign, they will be convinced by the second sign.
І станеться, коли вони не повірять також обом тим ознакам, і не послухають твого голосу, то ти візьмеш води з Річки, і виллєш на суходіл. І переміниться та вода, що ти візьмеш із Річки, і станеться кров'ю на суходолі“.
And if they don’t believe you or listen to you even after these two signs, then take some water from the Nile River and pour it out on the dry ground. When you do, the water from the Nile will turn to blood on the ground.”
Та Мойсей сказав до Господа: „О Го́споди — я не промовець ні від учора, ні від позавчора, ані відтоді, коли Ти говорив був до Свойого раба, бо я тяжкоустий та тяжкоязикий“.
But Moses pleaded with the LORD, “O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.”
І сказав йому Господь: „Хто дав уста людині? Або Хто робить німим, чи глухим, чи видючим, чи темним, — чи ж не Я, Господь?
Then the LORD asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the LORD?
А тепер іди, а Я буду з устами твоїми, і буду навчати тебе, що́ ти маєш говорити“.
Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.”
А він відказав: „Молю Тебе, Господи, — пошли іншого, кого маєш послати“.
But Moses again pleaded, “Lord, please! Send anyone else.”
І запалав гнів Господній на Мойсея, і Він сказав: „Чи ж не Ааро́н твій брат, Левит? Я знаю, що він добре буде говорити. Та ось він ви́йде навпроти тебе, — і побачить тебе, і зрадіє він у серці своїм.
Then the LORD became angry with Moses. “All right,” he said. “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he speaks well. And look! He is on his way to meet you now. He will be delighted to see you.
І ти бу́деш говорити до нього, і вкладеш слова ці в уста його, а Я буду з устами твоїми й з устами його, і буду навчати вас, що́ маєте робити.
Talk to him, and put the words in his mouth. I will be with both of you as you speak, and I will instruct you both in what to do.
І він буде говорити за тебе до наро́ду. І станеться, — він буде тобі устами, а ти будеш йому замість Бога.
Aaron will be your spokesman to the people. He will be your mouthpiece, and you will stand in the place of God for him, telling him what to say.
І ти візьмеш у руку свою оцю па́лицю, якою ознаки чинитимеш“.
And take your shepherd’s staff with you, and use it to perform the miraculous signs I have shown you.”
І пішов Мойсей, і вернувся до тестя свого Їтра, і сказав йому: „Піду я, і вернуся до братів своїх, що в Єгипті, і побачу, чи ще живі вони“. А Їтро сказав до Мойсея: „Іди в мирі!“
Moses Returns to Egypt
So Moses went back home to Jethro, his father-in-law. “Please let me return to my relatives in Egypt,” Moses said. “I don’t even know if they are still alive.”
“Go in peace,” Jethro replied.
І сказав Господь до Мойсея в Мідіяні: „Іди, вернися до Єгипту, бо вимерли всі люди, що шукали твоєї душі“.
Before Moses left Midian, the LORD said to him, “Return to Egypt, for all those who wanted to kill you have died.”
І взяв Мойсей жінку свою та синів своїх, і посадив їх на осла, та й вернувся до єгипетського краю. І взяв Мойсей палицю Божу в руку свою.
So Moses took his wife and sons, put them on a donkey, and headed back to the land of Egypt. In his hand he carried the staff of God.
І сказав Господь до Мойсея: „Коли ти пі́деш, щоб вернутися до Єгипту, гляди, щоб усі чуда, які Я вклав у твою руку, ти вчинив їх перед лицем фараона, а Я ожорсто́чу серце його, — і він не відпустить наро́ду.
And the LORD told Moses, “When you arrive back in Egypt, go to Pharaoh and perform all the miracles I have empowered you to do. But I will harden his heart so he will refuse to let the people go.
І ти скажеш фараонові: „Так сказав Господь: Син Мій, Мій перворідний — то Ізраїль.
Then you will tell him, ‘This is what the LORD says: Israel is my firstborn son.
І кажу́ Я тобі: Відпусти Мого сина, — і нехай Мені служить. А коли ти відмовиш пустити його, то ось Я вб'ю твого сина, твого перворідного“.
I commanded you, “Let my son go, so he can worship me.” But since you have refused, I will now kill your firstborn son!’”
І сталося в дорозі на нічлігу, — стрів був його Господь і шукав, щоб убити його.
On the way to Egypt, at a place where Moses and his family had stopped for the night, the LORD confronted him and was about to kill him.
Та Ціппора взяла кременя, і обрізала крайню плоть свого сина, і доторкнулася нею до ніг його та й сказала: „Бо ти мені наречений крови!“
І пустив Він його. Тоді вона сказала: „Наречений крови через обрі́зання“.
(When she said “a bridegroom of blood,” she was referring to the circumcision.) After that, the LORD left him alone.
І сказав Господь до Аарона: „Іди назустріч Мойсею в пустиню!“ І він пішов, і стрів його на горі Божій, і поцілував його.
Now the LORD had said to Aaron, “Go out into the wilderness to meet Moses.” So Aaron went and met Moses at the mountain of God, and he embraced him.
І розповів Мойсей Ааронові всі слова Господа, що послав його, і всі ті ознаки, що Він наказав був йому.
Moses then told Aaron everything the LORD had commanded him to say. And he told him about the miraculous signs the LORD had commanded him to perform.
І пішов Мойсей та Аарон, і зібрали вони всіх старши́х Ізраїлевих синів.
Then Moses and Aaron returned to Egypt and called all the elders of Israel together.
І переказав Аарон усі слова, що Господь говорив був Мойсеєві. А той ті ознаки чинив на очах народу.
Aaron told them everything the LORD had told Moses, and Moses performed the miraculous signs as they watched.
І повірив наро́д той. І почули вони, що згадав Господь Ізраїлевих синів, і що побачив біду їх, — і вони схилилися, і поклонилися до землі.
Then the people of Israel were convinced that the LORD had sent Moses and Aaron. When they heard that the LORD was concerned about them and had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshiped.
