Хто, як той мудрий, і зна́чення речі хто знає? Розсвітлює мудрість люди́ни обличчя її, і суворість лиця її змінюється.
Obey the King
Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? a man's wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.

Я раджу: Наказа царсько́го виконуй, і то ради прися́ги перед Богом.
I counsel thee to keep the king's commandment, and that in regard of the oath of God.
Не квапся від нього відходити, не стій при злій справі, бо все, що захоче, він зробить,
Be not hasty to go out of his sight: stand not in an evil thing; for he doeth whatsoever pleaseth him.
бо слово царе́ве — то вла́да, і хто йому скаже: „Що́ робиш?“
Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, What doest thou?
Хто виконує заповідь, той не пізна́є нічого лихого, серце ж мудрого знає час і право.
Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man's heart discerneth both time and judgment.
Бо для кожної речі час і право своє, бо лихо люди́ни числе́нне на ній,
Because to every purpose there is time and judgment, therefore the misery of man is great upon him.
бо не знає, що буде, і я́к саме буде, хто їй розпові́сть?
For he knoweth not that which shall be: for who can tell him when it shall be?
Немає люди́ни, яка панувала б над вітром, щоб стримати вітер, і вла́ди нема над днем смерти, і на війні нема зві́льнення, і пана свого́ не врятує безбожність.
There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.
Усе це я бачив, і серце своє прикладав я до кожного чину, що відбувався під сонцем. І був час, коли запанувала люди́на над люди́ною на лихо для неї.
All this have I seen, and applied my heart unto every work that is done under the sun: there is a time wherein one man ruleth over another to his own hurt.
І я бачив безбожних похо́ваних, і до їхнього гро́бу прихо́дили, а ті, що чинили добро́, повики́дані з місця святого, і в місті забуті. Марно́та й оце!
Fear God
And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity.

Що скоро не чиниться при́суд за вчинок лихий, тому́ серце лю́дських синів повне ними, щоб чинити лихе́.
Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.
Хоч сто раз чинить грішний лихе́, а Бог суд відкладає йому, однако я знаю, що ти́м буде добре, хто Бога боїться, хто перед обличчям Його має страх!
Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:
А безбожному добре не буде, і мов тінь, довгих днів він не матиме, бо він перед Божим лицем стра́ху не має!
But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.
Є марно́та, яка на землі ді́ється, — що є справедливі, що лихо спадає на них, мов за вчинок безбожних, а є безбожні, що добрео спадає на них, мов за чин справедливих! Я сказав, що марно́та й оце!
God's Ways are Mysterious
There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there be just men, unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked men, to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.

І радість я похваляв: що немає люди́ні під сонцем добра́, хіба тільки щоб їсти, та пити та ті́шитися, і оце супрово́дить її в її праці за ча́су життя її, що під сонцем Бог дав був їй.
Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun.
Коли я поклав своє серце, щоб мудрість пізнати, і побачити чин, що діється він на землі, бо ні вдень ні вночі сну не бачить люди́на своїми очима,
When I applied mine heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done upon the earth: (for also there is that neither day nor night seeth sleep with his eyes:)
і коли я побачив усякий чин Бога, тоді я пізнав, що не може люди́на збагнути чину, під сонцем учи́неного! Тому скільки люди́на не тру́диться, щоб дошукатись цього, то не зна́йде, і коли й мудрий скаже, що знає, — не зможе знайти!
Then I beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea further; though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it.
