Warning of Jerusalem’s Fall
Thus says the LORD, “Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and there speak this word

та й промовиш: Послухай Господнього слова, о ца́рю юдейський, що сидиш на Давидовім троні, ти й раби твої та наро́д твій, що входите в бра́ми оці.
and say, ‘Hear the word of the LORD, O king of Judah, who sits on David’s throne, you and your servants and your people who enter these gates.
Так говорить Господь: Чиніть правосу́ддя та правду, і рятуйте грабо́ваного від руки гноби́теля, чужинця́ ж, сироту та вдову́ не гнобі́ть, не грабу́йте, і крови невинної не проливайте на місці цьому́!
‘Thus says the LORD, “Do justice and righteousness, and deliver the one who has been robbed from the power of his oppressor. Also do not mistreat or do violence to the stranger, the orphan, or the widow; and do not shed innocent blood in this place.
Бо коли оце слово наспра́вді ви ви́конаєте, то ходитимуть бра́мами дому оцьо́го царі, що будуть сидіти на троні Давида, що їздити бу́дуть колесни́цями й кіньми, він і раб його та наро́д його.
“For if you men will indeed perform this thing, then kings will enter the gates of this house, sitting in David’s place on his throne, riding in chariots and on horses, even the king himself and his servants and his people.
А якщо не послухаєтесь оцих слів, то клянуся Собою — говорить Госпо́дь: руїною ста́неться дім цей!
“But if you will not obey these words, I swear by Myself,” declares the LORD, “that this house will become a desolation.”’”
Бо так промовляє Госпо́дь про дім царя Юди: Ти для Мене Ґілеа́д, щит Ліва́ну, та поправді кажу́ Я, — тебе оберну́ на пустиню, на міста́ незасе́лені!
For thus says the LORD concerning the house of the king of Judah:
“You are like Gilead to Me,
Like the summit of Lebanon;
Yet most assuredly I will make you like a wilderness,
Like cities which are not inhabited.

І приготу́ю на тебе отих, що руйнують люди́ну та збро́ю її, і вони твої ке́дри добі́рні зітну́ть і їх повкида́ють в огонь!
“For I will set apart destroyers against you,
Each with his weapons;
And they will cut down your choicest cedars
And throw them on the fire.

І люди числе́нні ходитимуть містом оцим і будуть казати один до одно́го: За́що Господь зробив так цьому місту великому?
“Many nations will pass by this city; and they will say to one another, ‘Why has the LORD done thus to this great city?’
І відкажуть: За те, що вони поки́нули заповіта Господа, Бога Свого, і вклонялися іншим богам, і служили їм.
“Then they will answer, ‘Because they forsook the covenant of the LORD their God and bowed down to other gods and served them.’”
Не плачте за вмерлим, і не жалку́йте за ним, — але плакати — плачте за тим, хто відходить в поло́н, бо вже не пове́рнеться, і не побачить землі, де він народився.

Бо так промовляє Господь до Шаллу́ма, сина Йосіїного, царя Юдиного, що царював замість Йосі́ї, свого ба́тька, що вийшов із місця цього́: Він сюди вже не ве́рнеться!
For thus says the LORD in regard to Shallum the son of Josiah, king of Judah, who became king in the place of Josiah his father, who went forth from this place, “He will never return there;
Бо помре він у місці, куди його полони́ли, Кра́ю ж цього́ не побачить уже.
but in the place where they led him captive, there he will die and not see this land again.
Горе тому́, хто несправедливістю дім свій будує, а верхні кімна́ти — безпра́в'ям, хто каже своєму ближньому працювати даре́мно, і платні́ його йому не дає,

“Woe to him who builds his house without righteousness
And his upper rooms without justice,
Who uses his neighbor’s services without pay
And does not give him his wages,
що говорить: Збудую собі дім великий, і верхні кімна́ти широкі!“ І ві́кна собі повиру́бує, й криє кедри́ною, і малю́є червоною фарбою.

Paneling it with cedar and painting it bright red.’

Чи ти зацарюєш тому́, що в ке́драх ти ме́шкаєш? Чи ж твій ба́тько не їв та не пив? І коли правосу́ддя та правду чинив він, тоді було добре йому́, —
“Do you become a king because you are competing in cedar?
Did not your father eat and drink
And do justice and righteousness?
Then it was well with him.

він розсу́джував справу нужде́нного й бідного, й тоді добре було́! Чи не це — Мене знати? говорить Госпо́дь.
“He pled the cause of the afflicted and needy;
Then it was well.
Is not that what it means to know Me?”
Declares the LORD.

Хіба твої очі та серце твоє не обе́рнені тільки на ко́ристь свою́, та щоб пролива́ти кров невинну, і щоб гніт та насилля чинити?
“But your eyes and your heart
Are intent only upon your own dishonest gain,

Тому так промовляє Госпо́дь про Єгояки́ма, Йосіїного сина, царя Юдиного: Не будуть за ним голосити: „О мій брате!“ й „О се́стро!“ Не будуть за ним голосити: „О пане" й „О вели́чносте його!“
Therefore thus says the LORD in regard to Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah,
“They will not lament for him:
‘Alas, my brother!’ or, ‘Alas, sister!’
They will not lament for him:
‘Alas for the master!’ or, ‘Alas for his splendor!’

“He will be buried with a donkey’s burial,

Говорив Я тобі в час гара́зду твого́, але ти каза́ла: „Не слу́хатиму!“ Це доро́га твоя від юна́цтва твого́, бо не слухалась ти Мого голосу.
“I spoke to you in your prosperity;
But you said, ‘I will not listen!’
This has been your practice from your youth,
That you have not obeyed My voice.
But you said, ‘I will not listen!’

Усіх твоїх па́стирів буря розки́дає, а коха́нці твої підуть до полону, — справді, тоді посоро́млена та побенте́жена будеш за все своє зло!
“The wind will sweep away all your shepherds,
And your lovers will go into captivity;
Then you will surely be ashamed and humiliated
Because of all your wickedness.

О ти, що сидиш на Ливані, що ку́блишся в ке́драх, — як ти бу́деш стогна́ти, як бо́лі й дрижа́ння на тебе спаду́ть, мов на ту породі́ллю!
“You who dwell in Lebanon,
Nested in the cedars,
How you will groan when pangs come upon you,
Pain like a woman in childbirth!

Як живий Я, — говорить Госпо́дь, — коли б був Коні́я, син Єгоякимів, цар Юдин, печа́ткою-пе́рснем на правій руці Моїй, — справді Я й звідти тебе зірву́!
“As I live,” declares the LORD, “even though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were a signet ring on My right hand, yet I would pull you off;
І дам Я тебе в руку тих, хто шукає твоєї душі, і в руку тих, що боїшся ти їх, і в руку Навуходоно́сора, царя вавилонського, і в руку халде́їв.
and I will give you over into the hand of those who are seeking your life, yes, into the hand of those whom you dread, even into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and into the hand of the Chaldeans.
І кину тебе й твою матір, яка породила тебе́, до іншого кра́ю, де ви не зроди́лись, — і там — ви повмира́єте!
“I will hurl you and your mother who bore you into another country where you were not born, and there you will die.

“But as for the land to which they desire to return, they will not return to it.
Чи муж цей, Коні́я, — це гли́няний по́суд, пого́рджений та розпоро́шений? Хіба він посу́дина та непотрі́бна? Чом відкинені він та насі́ння його́, та й закинені в землю, якої не знають?
“Is this man Coniah a despised, shattered jar?
Or is he an undesirable vessel?

О Кра́ю, мій Кра́ю, о Кра́ю, — послухай Господнього сло́ва:
“O land, land, land,
Hear the word of the LORD!

Так говорить Госпо́дь: Запишіть люди́ну оцю самі́тною, мужем, якому не буде щасти́тись у днях його, бо ніко́му з насіння його не пощасти́ться сидіти на троні Давидовім та панувати ще в Юді!
“Thus says the LORD,
‘Write this man down childless,
A man who will not prosper in his days;
For no man of his descendants will prosper
Sitting on the throne of David
Or ruling again in Judah.’”
