    І кликнув Він в уші мої сильним голосом, кажучи: „Набли́зьте кара́телів міста, і кожен нехай має в своїй руці свої нищівні́ знаря́ддя“.

    The Wicked Are Slain

    Then He called out in my hearing with a loud voice, saying, “Let those who have charge over the city draw near, each with a [a]deadly weapon in his hand.”

    І ось прийшли шість чоловіка з дороги горі́шньої брами, що зве́рнена на пі́вніч, і кожен мав у своїй руці свої знаря́ддя розбива́ння, а серед них один чоловік був одя́гнений в льняне́, а пи́сарський калама́р був при сте́гнах його. І вони прийшли, і стали при мідяно́му же́ртівнику.

    And suddenly six men came from the direction of the upper gate, which faces north, each with his [b]battle-ax in his hand. One man among them was clothed with linen and had a writer’s inkhorn [c]at his side. They went in and stood beside the bronze altar.

    А слава Ізраїлевого Бога підняла́ся з-над Херуви́ма, що була над ним, до порога дому. І закли́кав Він чоловіка, одя́гненого в льняне́, що пи́сарський калама́р був при сте́гнах його.

    Now the glory of the God of Israel had gone up from the cherub, where it had been, to the threshold of the [d]temple. And He called to the man clothed with linen, who had the writer’s inkhorn at his side;

    І сказав Господь до нього: „Перейди сере́диною міста, сере́диною Єрусалиму, і зроби зна́ка на чо́лах людей, що зідхають та стогнуть над усіма́ тими гидо́тами, що робляться в його сере́дині“.

    and the Lord said to him, “Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and put a mark on the foreheads of the men who sigh and cry over all the abominations that are done within it.”

    А до інших Він сказав при мені: „Ходіть за ним у місті, і вбивайте; нехай ваше око не має милосердя, і ви не зми́луйтеся!

    To the others He said in my [e]hearing, “Go after him through the city and kill;[f] do not let your eye spare, nor have any pity.

    Старо́го, юнака, і ді́вчину, і дітей та жінок позабива́йте доще́нту, а до кожної люди́ни, що на ній цей знак, не піді́йдете; а зачне́те від Моєї святині“. І зачали́ вони від тих старих людей, що були перед домом.

    Utterly[g] slay old and young men, maidens and little children and women; but do not come near anyone on whom is the mark; and begin at My sanctuary.” So they began with the elders who were before the [h]temple.

    І сказав Він до них: „Занечи́стіть цей дім, і напо́вніть подві́р'я тру́пами, і вийдіть!“ І вони повихо́дили, і вбивали в місті.

    Then He said to them, “Defile the [i]temple, and fill the courts with the slain. Go out!” And they went out and killed in the city.

    І сталося, коли вони вбивали, то я позостався, і впав на своє обличчя, і кли́кав та казав: „О Господи, Боже, чи Ти ви́губиш увесь останок Ізраїлів, виливаючи гнів Свій на Єрусалим?“

    So it was, that while they were killing them, I was left alone; and I fell on my face and cried out, and said, “Ah, Lord God! Will You destroy all the remnant of Israel in pouring out Your fury on Jerusalem?”

    І сказав Він до мене: „Провина дому Ізраїля й Юди дуже-дуже велика, і земля напо́внена душогу́бствами, а місто повне кривди. Бо вони кажуть: Господь покинув цей Край, і Господь не бачить.

    Then He said to me, “The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great, and the land is full of bloodshed, and the city full of perversity; for they say, ‘The Lord has forsaken the land, and the Lord does not see!’

    І також Я, — не змилосе́рдиться око Моє, і не змилуюсь Я, їхню доро́гу Я дам на їхню голову!“

    And as for Me also, My eye will neither spare, nor will I have pity, but I will recompense their deeds on their own head.”

    І ось чоловік, одя́гнений в льняне́, що калама́р був при сте́гнах його, приніс відповідь, кажучи: „Я зробив, як мені наказав Ти!“

    Just then, the man clothed with linen, who had the inkhorn at his side, reported back and said, “I have done as You commanded me.”
