За першого року Валтаса́ра, царя вавилонського, бачив Даниїл сон та пророцьке видіння голови́ своєї на своєму ложі. Того ча́су записав він сон, сказавши з ньо́го головне́.

Vision of the Four Beasts

In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel [a]had a dream and visions of his head while on his bed. Then he wrote down the dream, telling [b]the main facts.

Даниїл заговорив та й сказав: „Бачив я в своєму видінні вночі, аж ось чотири небесні вітри́ вдарили на Велике море.

Daniel spoke, saying, “I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of heaven were stirring up the Great Sea.

І чотири великі зві́рі підняли́ся з моря, різні один від о́дного.

And four great beasts came up from the sea, each different from the other.

4

Передній був, як лев, а крила в нього орли́ні. Я бачив, аж ось були́ ви́рвані йому кри́ла, і він був пі́днятий від землі, і поста́влений на ноги, як люди́на, і серце лю́дське було йому да́не.

The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings. I watched till its wings were plucked off; and it was lifted up from the earth and made to stand on two feet like a man, and a man’s heart was given to it.

А ось звір інший, другий, подібний до ведме́дя, і був поста́влений на одно́му боці, і було три ребра в його па́щі між зуба́ми його. І йому сказали так: „Уставай, — їж багато м'яса!“

“And suddenly another beast, a second, like a bear. It was raised up on one side, and had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. And they said thus to it: ‘Arise, devour much flesh!’

Пото́му я бачив, аж ось звір інший, мов панте́ра, а в нього на спи́ні чотири пташи́ні крила. Цей звір мав чотири голови, і була йому да́на вла́да.

“After this I looked, and there was another, like a leopard, which had on its back four wings of a bird. The beast also had four heads, and dominion was given to it.

Пото́му я бачив у видіннях тієї ночі, аж ось четвертий звір, страшни́й і грізни́й, та надмірно міцни́й, і в нього великі залізні зуби. Він жер та торо́щив, а решту нога́ми своїми топта́в, і він різни́вся від усіх зві́рів, що були перед ним, і мав десять ро́гів.

“After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, exceedingly strong. It had huge iron teeth; it was devouring, breaking in pieces, and trampling the residue with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns.

Я приглядався до тих ро́гів, аж ось поміж ними підні́сся ріг інший, мали́й, а три з тих передніх ро́гів були вирвані з коренем перед ним. І ось у того рога очі, як очі лю́дські, і уста, що говорили про великі речі.

I was considering the horns, and there was another horn, a little one, coming up among them, before whom three of the first horns were plucked out by the roots. And there, in this horn, were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking [c]pompous words.

Я бачив, аж ось поставили престоли, і всівся Стари́й днями. Одежа Його — біла, як сніг, а воло́сся голови Його — немов чиста во́вна, а престол Його — огняне по́лум'я, коле́са Його — палахкотю́чий огонь.

Vision of the Ancient of Days

“I watched till thrones were [d]put in place,
And the Ancient of Days was seated;
His garment was white as snow,
And the hair of His head was like pure wool.
His throne was a fiery flame,
Its wheels a burning fire;

10

Огне́нна річка пливла́ й вихо́дила з-перед Нього; тисяча тисяч служили Йому́, і десять тисяч десятків тисяч стояли перед Ним; суд усівся, і розгорну́лися книги.

A fiery stream issued
And came forth from before Him.
A thousand thousands ministered to Him;
Ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him.
The [e]court was seated,
And the books were opened.

11

Я бачив того ча́су, що від голосу великих слів, які цей ріг говорив, я бачив, аж ось був забитий той звір, і було́ погу́блене тіло його, і було́ ві́ддане на спа́лення огню́.

“I watched then because of the sound of the [f]pompous words which the horn was speaking; I watched till the beast was slain, and its body destroyed and given to the burning flame.

А решті тих зві́рів відняли́ їхнє панува́ння, а довгота́ в житті була́ їм да́на аж до уста́леного ча́су та години.

As for the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away, yet their lives were prolonged for a season and a time.

13

Я бачив у видіннях но́чі, аж ось ра́зом з небесними хмарами йшов ніби Син Лю́дський, і прийшов аж до Старо́го днями, і Його підвели́ перед Нього.

“I was watching in the night visions,
And behold, One like the Son of Man,
Coming with the clouds of heaven!
He came to the Ancient of Days,
And they brought Him near before Him.

14

І Йому було дане панува́ння й слава та царство, і всі наро́ди, племе́на та язи́ки будуть служити Йому. Панува́ння Його — панува́ння вічне, яке не спи́ниться, а царство Його не буде зруйно́ване.

Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom,
That all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him.
His dominion is an everlasting dominion,
Which shall not pass away,
And His kingdom the one
Which shall not be destroyed.

15

Дух мій, Даниїлів, був засумо́ваний через це, і видіння голови моєї стурбува́ли мене.

Daniel’s Visions Interpreted

“I, Daniel, was grieved in my spirit [g]within my body, and the visions of my head troubled me.

16

Я набли́зився до одно́го з тих, що стояли, і поспита́вся від нього про істо́ту всього того. І він сказав мені, і познайо́мив мене з ро́зв'язкою цих рече́й.

I came near to one of those who stood by, and asked him the truth of all this. So he told me and made known to me the interpretation of these things:

17

Ці великі зві́рі, що їх чотири, — це чотири царі встануть з землі.

17

‘Those great beasts, which are four, are four [h]kings which arise out of the earth.

18

І при́ймуть царство святі Всевишнього, і бу́дуть міцно держати царюва́ння аж навіки, і аж на віки віків.

18

But the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever.’

19

Тоді хотів я знати певне про четвертого зві́ра, що різни́вся від їх усіх, — він страшни́й, надмірний, зуби його залізні, а пазурі́ його мідяні́, він жер та торо́щив, а решту ногами своїми топтав,

“Then I wished to know the truth about the fourth beast, which was different from all the others, exceedingly dreadful, with its teeth of iron and its nails of bronze, which devoured, broke in pieces, and trampled the residue with its feet;

20

і про десять ро́гів, що на його голові, і про іншого, що підні́сся, а три через нього випали, і про цього рога, що мав очі, а у́ста говорили про великі речі, а вид його більший від його дру́зів.

and the ten horns that were on its head, and the other horn which came up, before which three fell, namely, that horn which had eyes and a mouth which spoke [i]pompous words, whose appearance was greater than his fellows.

21

Я бачив, що цей ріг учинив бій зо святими, — і переміг їх.

21

“I was watching; and the same horn was making war against the saints, and prevailing against them,

22

Аж ось прийшов Стари́й днями, і да́ний був суд святим Всевишнього, і надійшов умо́влений час, — і царство взяли́ святі.

22

until the Ancient of Days came, and a judgment was made in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the time came for the saints to possess the kingdom.

23

Він так сказав: „Четвертий звір — четверте царство буде на землі, яке буде різни́тися від усіх царств, і пожере́ всю землю, і ви́молотить її та розторо́щить її.

“Thus he said:
‘The fourth beast shall be
A fourth kingdom on earth,
Which shall be different from all other kingdoms,
And shall devour the whole earth,
Trample it and break it in pieces.

24

А десять рогів визначають, що з того царства встане десять царів, а по них встане інший, що буде різни́тися від попередніх, і скине трьох царів.

24

The ten horns are ten kings
Who shall arise from this kingdom.
And another shall rise after them;
He shall be different from the first ones,
And shall subdue three kings.

25

І він буде говорити слова́ проти Всевишнього, і пригно́бить святих Всевишнього, і буде ду́мати позмінювати свята та права, і вони ві́ддані будуть у його руку аж до одно́го ча́су, і часі́в і половини ча́су.

25

He shall speak pompous words against the Most High,
Shall persecute[j] the saints of the Most High,
And shall intend to change times and law.
Then the saints shall be given into his hand
For a time and times and half a time.

26

Та засяде суд, і скинуть його панування, щоб його знищити та ви́губити аж до кінця.

26

‘But the court shall be seated,
And they shall take away his dominion,
To consume and destroy it forever.

27

А царство, і панува́ння, і ве́лич царств під усім небом буде да́не наро́дові святих Всевишнього. Його царство буде царство вічне, а всі панува́ння — Йому будуть служити й будуть слухня́ні“.

Then the kingdom and dominion,
And the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven,
Shall be given to the people, the saints of the Most High.
His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
And all dominions shall serve and obey Him.’

28

Аж по́ти кінець цього слова. Мене, Даниїла, сильно лякали думки́ мої, і зміни́лася ясність моя, але це слово я заховав у своїм серці.

“This is the end of the [k]account. As for me, Daniel, my thoughts greatly troubled me, and my countenance changed; but I kept the matter in my heart.”
