The Gerasene Demoniac
They came to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gerasenes.

І як вийшов Він із чо́вна, то зараз Його перестрів чоловік із могильних пече́р, що мав духа нечистого.
When He got out of the boat, immediately a man from the tombs with an unclean spirit met Him,
Він ме́шкання мав у гроба́х, і ніхто й ланцюга́ми зв'язати не міг його,
and he had his dwelling among the tombs. And no one was able to bind him anymore, even with a chain;
бо часто кайда́нами та ланцюга́ми в'язали його, але він розривав ланцюги́ та кайда́ни торо́щив, — і ніхто не міг угамува́ти його.
because he had often been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him and the shackles broken in pieces, and no one was strong enough to subdue him.
І він повсякча́с перебува́в день і ніч у гроба́х та в гора́х, — і кричав, і бився об камі́ння.
Constantly, night and day, he was screaming among the tombs and in the mountains, and gashing himself with stones.
А коли він Ісуса побачив здале́ка, то прибіг, і вклонився Йому,
Seeing Jesus from a distance, he ran up and bowed down before Him;
і закричав гучни́м голосом, кажучи: „Що до мене Тобі, Ісусе, Сину Бога Всеви́шнього? Богом Тебе заклинаю, — не муч Ти мене!“
and shouting with a loud voice, he said, “What business do we have with each other, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God, do not torment me!”
Бо сказав Він йому: „Вийди, ду́ше нечистий, із люди́ни!“
For He had been saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!”
І запитав Він його: „Як тобі на ім'я́?“ А той відповів: „Леґіо́н мені йме́ння — багато бо нас“.
And He was asking him, “What is your name?” And he said to Him, “My name is Legion; for we are many.”
І він Його ду́же просив, щоб їх не висилав із тієї землі.
And he began to implore Him earnestly not to send them out of the country.
Пасся ж там на горі гурт великий свине́й.
Now there was a large herd of swine feeding nearby on the mountain.
І просилися де́мони, кажучи: „Пошли нас у свине́й, щоб у них ми ввійшли“.
The demons implored Him, saying, “Send us into the swine so that we may enter them.”
І дозволив Він їм. І повихо́дили духи нечисті, і в свиней увійшли́. І гурт кинувся з кручі до моря, — а було зо дві тисячі їх — і вони потопилися в морі.
Jesus gave them permission. And coming out, the unclean spirits entered the swine; and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, about two thousand of them; and they were drowned in the sea.
А їхні пастухи повтікали та в місті й по селах звістили. І повихо́дили люди побачити, що́ сталось.
Their herdsmen ran away and reported it in the city and in the country. And the people came to see what it was that had happened.
І прийшли до Ісуса й побачили, що той біснуватий, що мав леґіо́на, убра́ний сидів, і при умі, — і полякались вони.
They came to Jesus and observed the man who had been demon-possessed sitting down, clothed and in his right mind, the very man who had had the “legion”; and they became frightened.
Самови́дці ж їм розповіли́, що́ сталося з тим біснуватим, також про свиней.
Those who had seen it described to them how it had happened to the demon-possessed man, and all about the swine.
І вони стали благати Його, щоб пішов Собі з їхнього кра́ю.
And they began to implore Him to leave their region.
А як Він сів до чо́вна, то біснуватий став просити Його, щоб залиши́тися з Ним.
As He was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed was imploring Him that he might accompany Him.
Ісус же йому не дозволив, а промовив до нього: „Іди до дому свого, до своїх, і їм розпові́ж, які речі великі Госпо́дь учинив тобі, і як змилувався над тобою!“
And He did not let him, but He said to him, “Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you.”
І пішов він та в Десятимісті зачав пропові́дувати, які речі великі Ісус учинив йому. І всі дивувались!
And he went away and began to proclaim in Decapolis what great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed.
І коли переплив Ісус чо́вном на то́й бік ізнов, то до Нього зібралось багато наро́ду. І був Він над морем.
Miracles and Healing
When Jesus had crossed over again in the boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered around Him; and so He stayed by the seashore.
І приходить один із старши́х синагоги, на ймення Яі́р, і, як побачив Його, припадає до ніг Йому,
One of the synagogue officials named Jairus came up, and on seeing Him, fell at His feet
і ду́же благає Його та говорить: „Моя дочка́ кінча́ється. Прийди ж, поклади Свої руки на неї, щоб видужала та жила́!“
and implored Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death; please come and lay Your hands on her, so that she will get well and live.”
І пішов Він із ним. За Ним на́товп великий ішов, і тиснувсь до Нього.
And He went off with him; and a large crowd was following Him and pressing in on Him.
А жінка одна, що дванадцять ро́ків хворою на кровоте́чу була́,
A woman who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years,
що чимало нате́рпілася від багатьох лікарів, і витратила все добро своє, та ніякої помочі з того не мала, а прийшла ще до гіршого,
and had endured much at the hands of many physicians, and had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but rather had grown worse —
як зачула вона про Ісуса, підійшла через на́товп ізза́ду, і доторкну́лась до одежі Його.
after hearing about Jesus, she came up in the crowd behind Him and touched His cloak.
Бо вона говорила про себе: „Коли хоч доторкнусь до одежі Його, то оду́жаю“.
For she thought, “If I just touch His garments, I will get well.”
І висохло хвилі тієї джерело́ кровотечі її, і тілом відчула вона, що видужала від неду́ги!
Immediately the flow of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction.
І в ту мить Ісус вичув у Собі, що вийшла з Нього сила. І Він до наро́ду звернувся й спитав: „Хто́ доторкнувсь до Моєї одежі?“
Immediately Jesus, perceiving in Himself that the power proceeding from Him had gone forth, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My garments?”
І відказали Йому Його учні: „Ти бачиш, що тисне на Тебе наро́д, а питаєшся: Хто́ доторкнувся до Мене?“
And His disciples said to Him, “You see the crowd pressing in on You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’”
А Він навкруги́ поглядав, щоб побачити ту, що зробила оце.
And He looked around to see the woman who had done this.
І жінка злякалась та затрусилась, бо знала, що сталося їй. І вона підійшла, і впала ницьма перед Ним, — і всю правду Йому розпові́ла.
But the woman fearing and trembling, aware of what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth.
А Він їй сказав: „Твоя віра, о до́чко, спасла тебе; іди з ми́ром, і здоровою будь від своєї неду́ги!“
And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace and be healed of your affliction.”
Як Він ще говорив, приходять ось від старшини́ синагоги та й кажуть: „Дочка́ твоя вмерла; чого ще турбуєш Учителя?“
While He was still speaking, they came from the house of the synagogue official, saying, “Your daughter has died; why trouble the Teacher anymore?”
А Ісус, як почув слово сказане, промовляє до старшини́ синагоги: „Не лякайсь, — тільки віруй!
But Jesus, overhearing what was being spoken, said to the synagogue official, “Do not be afraid any longer, only believe.”
І Він не дозволив іти за Собою ніко́му, тільки Петрові та Якову, та Іванові, братові Якова.
And He allowed no one to accompany Him, except Peter and James and John the brother of James.
І приходять у дім старшини́ синаго́ги, і Він бачить метушню́ та людей, що плакали та голоси́ли.
They came to the house of the synagogue official; and He saw a commotion, and people loudly weeping and wailing.
А ввійшовши, сказав Він до них: „Чого ви мету́шитеся та плачете? Не вмерло дівча́, але спить!“
And entering in, He said to them, “Why make a commotion and weep? The child has not died, but is asleep.”
І вони насміхалися з Нього. А Він усіх ви́провадив, узяв батька дівчати та матір, та тих, хто був із Ним, і ввійшов, де лежало дівча.
They began laughing at Him. But putting them all out, He took along the child’s father and mother and His own companions, and entered the room where the child was.
І взяв Він за руку дівча та й промовив до нього: „Таліта́, ку́мі“ що значить: „Дівча́тко, кажу́ тобі — встань!“
Taking the child by the hand, He said to her, “Talitha kum!” (which translated means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”).
І в ту мить підвелося й ходило дівча́; а ро́ків мало з дванадцять. І всі зараз жахнулися з дива великого!
Immediately the girl got up and began to walk, for she was twelve years old. And immediately they were completely astounded.
