Він же промовив до них: „Коли молитеся, говоріть: „Отче наш, що на небі! Нехай святиться Ім'я́ Твоє, нехай при́йде Царство Твоє, нехай бу́де воля Твоя, як на небі, так і на землі.
And he said to them, When ye pray, say, Father, thy name be hallowed; thy kingdom come;
І прости нам наші гріхи́, бо й самі ми прощаємо кожному боржнико́ві нашому. І не введи нас у випробо́вування, але визволи нас від лукавого!“
and remit us our sins, for we also remit to every one indebted to us; and lead us not into temptation.

Ask, Seek, Knock
And he said to them, Who among you shall have a friend, and shall go to him at midnight and say to him, Friend, let me have three loaves,

since a friend of mine on a journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him;
А той із сере́дини в відповідь скаже: „Не роби мені кло́поту, — уже за́мкнені двері, і мої діти зо мною на ліжкові. Не можу я встати та дати тобі“.
and he within answering should say, Do not disturb me; the door is already shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise up to give [it] thee?
Кажу вам: коли він не встане, і не дасть ради дружби йому, то за докуча́ння його він устане та й дасть йому, скільки той потребу́є.
-- I say to you, Although he will not get up and give [them] to him because he is his friend, because of his shamelessness, at any rate, he will rise and give him as many as he wants.
І Я вам кажу́: просіть, — і буде вам да́но, шукайте — і знайдете, стукайте — і відчинять вам!
And *I* say to you, Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you.
Бо кожен, хто просить — одержує, хто шукає — знахо́дить, а тому́, хто стукає — відчинять.
For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it will be opened.
І котри́й з вас, батьків, як син хліба проси́тиме, подасть йому каменя? Або, як проситиме риби, замість риби подасть йому га́дину?
But of whom of you that is a father shall a son ask bread, and [the father] shall give him a stone? or also a fish, and instead of a fish shall give him a serpent?
Або, як яйця́ він проситиме, дасть йому скорпіо́на?
or if also he shall ask an egg, shall give him a scorpion?
Отож, коли ви, бувши злі, потра́пите добрі дари́ своїм дітям давати, — скільки ж більше Небесний Отець подасть Духа Святого всім тим, хто проситиме в Нього?“
If therefore *ye*, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much rather shall the Father who is of heaven give [the] Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

A House Divided
And he was casting out a demon, and it was dumb; and it came to pass, the demon being gone out, the dumb [man] spoke. And the crowds wondered.

But some from among them said, By Beelzebub the prince of the demons casts he out demons.

And others tempting [him] sought from him a sign out of heaven.
Він же знав думки їхні, і промовив до них: „Кожне царство, само проти себе поді́лене, запусті́є, і дім на дім упаде́.
But *he*, knowing their thoughts, said to them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation: and a house set against a house falls;
А коли й сатана́ поділився сам супроти себе, — як стоятиме царство його? А ви кажете, що Вельзеву́лом виго́ню Я демонів.
and if also Satan is divided against himself, how shall his kingdom subsist? because ye say that I cast out demons by Beelzebub.
Коли ж Вельзеву́лом виго́ню Я демонів, то чим виганяють їх ваші сини? Тому вони стануть вам су́ддями.
But if *I* by Beelzebub cast out demons, your sons -- by whom do they cast [them] out? For this reason *they* shall be your judges.
А коли пальцем Божим виго́ню Я де́монів, то справді прийшло до вас Боже Царство.
But if by the finger of God I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God is come upon you.
Коли сильний збройно свій двір стереже, то в безпе́ці маєток його.
When the strong [man] armed keeps his own house, his goods are in peace;
Коли ж дужчий від нього його нападе́ й переможе, то всю збро́ю йому забере́, на яку покладався був той, і роздасть свою здо́бич.
but when the stronger than he coming upon [him] overcomes him, he takes away his panoply in which he trusted, and he will divide the spoil [he has taken] from him.
Хто не зо Мною, той проти Мене; і хто не збирає зо Мною, той розкидає!
He that is not with me is against me, and he that gathers not with me scatters.
Коли дух нечистий виходить з люди́ни, то блукає місцями безві́дними, відпочинку шукаючи, але, не знахо́дячи, каже: „Верну́ся до хати своєї, звідки я вийшов“.
Return of an Unclean Spirit
When the unclean spirit has gone out of the man, he goes through dry places seeking rest; and not finding [any] he says, I will return to my house whence I came out.

А як ве́рнеться він, то хату знахо́дить заме́тену й при́брану.
And having come, he finds it swept and adorned.
Тоді він іде та й приводить сімох інших духів, лютіших за себе, — і входять вони та й живуть там. І буде останнє люди́ні тій гірше за перше!“
Then he goes and takes seven other spirits worse than himself, and entering in, they dwell there; and the last condition of that man becomes worse than the first.
І сталось, як Він це говорив, одна жінка з народу свій голос підне́сла й сказала до Нього: „Блаженна утро́ба, що носила Тебе, і груди, що Ти ссав їх!“
True Blessedness
And it came to pass as he spake these things, a certain woman, lifting up her voice out of the crowd, said to him, Blessed is the womb that has borne thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.

А як люди збира́лися, Він почав промовляти: „Рід цей — рід лукавий: він ознаки шукає, та ознаки йому не дадуть, крім ознаки проро́ка Йо́ни.
The Sign of Jonah
But as the crowds thronged together, he began to say, This generation is a wicked generation: it seeks a sign, and a sign shall not be given to it but the sign of Jonas.

Бо як Йо́на ознакою був для ніневі́тян, так буде й Син Лю́дський для роду цього́.
For as Jonas was a sign to the Ninevites, thus shall also the Son of man be to this generation.
Цариця півде́нна на суд стане з му́жами роду цього́, — і їх засудить, бо вона з кінця світу прийшла Соломо́нову мудрість послухати. А тут ось Хтось більший, аніж Соломо́н!
A queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and shall condemn them: for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, more than Solomon is here.
Ніневі́тяни стануть на суд із цим родом, — і засудять його, вони бо пока́ялися через Йонину проповідь. А тут ось Хтось більший, ніж Йона!
Men of Nineveh shall stand up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and behold, more than Jonas is here.
Засвіченого світла ніхто в схо́вок не ставить, ані під посу́дину, але на світи́льника, щоб бачили світло, хто входить.
The Lamp of the Body
But no one having lit a lamp sets it in secret, nor under the corn-measure, but on the lamp-stand, that they who enter in may see the light.

Око твоє — то світи́льник для тіла; тому́, як око твоє буде дуже, то й усе тіло твоє буде світле. А коли б твоє око нездатне було́, то й усе тіло твоє буде темне.
The lamp of the body is thine eye: when thine eye is simple, thy whole body also is light; but when it is wicked, thy body also is dark.
Отож, уважай, щоб те світло, що в тобі, не сталося те́мрявою!
See therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.
Бо коли твоє тіло все світле, і не має жа́дної темної частини, то все буде світле, неначе б світильник ося́яв блиском тебе“.
If therefore thy whole body [is] light, not having any part dark, it shall be all light as when the lamp lights thee with its brightness.
Коли Він говорив, то один фарисей став благати Його пообідати в нього. Він же прийшов та й сів при столі.
Woes to Pharisees and Experts in Law
But as he spoke, a certain Pharisee asked him that he would dine with him; and entering in he placed himself at table.

Фарисей же, побачивши це, здивувався, що перед обідом Він перш не обмився.
But the Pharisee seeing [it] wondered that he had not first washed before dinner.
Господь же промовив до нього: „Тепер ви, фарисеї, он чистите зо́внішність ку́хля та миски, а ваше нутро́ повне зди́рства та кривди!
But the Lord said to him, Now do ye Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but your inward [parts] are full of plunder and wickedness.
Нерозумні, — чи ж Той, Хто створив оте зо́внішнє, не створив Він і внутрішнє?
Fools, has not he who has made the outside made the inside also?
Тож милостиню подавайте з унутрішнього, — і ось все буде вам чисте.
But rather give alms of what ye have, and behold, all things are clean to you.
Горе вам, фарисеям, — бо ви десятину даєте з м'яти та рути й усякого зілля, але обминаєте суд та Божу любов; це треба робити, і того́ не лишати!
But woe unto you, Pharisees, for ye pay tithes of mint and rue and every herb, and pass by the judgment and the love of God: these ye ought to have done, and not have left those aside.
Горе вам, фарисеям, що любите перші лавки́ в синагогах та привіти на ри́нках!
Woe unto you, Pharisees, for ye love the first seat in the synagogues and salutations in the market-places.
Горе вам, — бо ви як гроби́ непомітні, — люди ж ходять по них і не знають того“.
Woe unto you, for ye are as the sepulchres which appear not, and the men walking over them do not know [it].
Озвався ж один із зако́нників, і каже Йому: „Учителю, кажучи це, Ти і нас ображаєш!“
And one of the doctors of the law answering says to him, Teacher, in saying these things thou insultest us also.
А Він відказав: „Горе й вам, зако́нникам, бо ви на людей тягарі́ накладаєте, які важко носити, а самі й одним пальцем своїм не дото́ркуєтесь тягарі́в!
And he said, To you also woe, doctors of the law, for ye lay upon men burdens heavy to bear, and yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers.
Горе вам, бо надгро́бки пророкам ви ставите, — ваші ж батьки́ були їх повбивали.
Woe unto you, for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, but your fathers killed them.
Так, — визнаєте ви й хвалите вчинки батьків своїх: бо вони їх повбивали, а ви їм надгро́бки будуєте!
Ye bear witness then, and consent to the works of your fathers; for *they* killed them, and *ye* build [their sepulchres].
Через те й мудрість Божа сказала: „Я пошлю їм пророків й апо́столів, — вони ж декого з них повбивають, а декого ви́женуть,
For this reason also the wisdom of God has said, I will send to them prophets and apostles, and of these shall they kill and drive out by persecution,
щоб на роді оцім відомстилася кров усіх пророків, що пролита від ство́рення світу,
that the blood of all the prophets which has been poured out from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation,
від крови Авеля аж до крови Заха́рія, що загинув між же́ртівником і храмом“! Так, кажу вам, — відомсти́ться це все на цім роді!
from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zacharias, who perished between the altar and the house; yea, I say to you, it shall be required of this generation.
Горе вам, зако́нникам, бо взяли́ ви ключа́ розумі́ння: самі не ввійшли, і тим, хто хотів увійти, борони́ли!“
Woe unto you, the doctors of the law, for ye have taken away the key of knowledge; yourselves have not entered in, and those who were entering in ye have hindered.
А коли Він вихо́див ізвідти, стали книжники та фарисеї сильно тиснути та від Нього допитуватись про багато речей, —
And as he said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press him urgently, and to make him speak of many things;
