    Того ча́су прийшли були дехто, та й розповіли́ Йому про галіле́ян, що їхню кров Пила́т змішав був із їхніми жертвами.

    Repent or Perish

    Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.

    Ісус же сказав їм у відповідь: „Чи ви ду́маєте, що оці галіле́яни, що так постраждали, грішніші були від усіх галіле́ян?

    Jesus answered, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way?

    Ні, кажу́ вам; та коли не покаєтеся, то загинете всі так!

    I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.
  • 4
    Або ті вісімнадцять, що ба́шта на них завалилась була́ в Сілоа́мі й побила їх, — чи ду́маєте, що ті винні були більш за всіх, що в Єрусалимі живуть?

    Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them — do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem?

    Ні, кажу вам; та коли не покаєтеся, то загинете всі так!“

    I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”

    І Він розповів оцю притчу: „Один чоловік у своїм винограднику мав поса́джене фіґове дерево. І прийшов він шукати на ньому плоду, але не знайшов.

    Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did not find any.

    І сказав винаре́ві: „Оце́ третій рік, відко́ли прихо́джу шукати плоду на цім фіґовім дереві, але не знахо́джу; зрубай його, — нащо й землю марну́є воно?“

    So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’

    А той йому в відповідь каже: „Позостав його, пане, і на цей рік, аж поки його обкопа́ю довко́ла, і обкладу його гноєм, —

    “ ‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it.
  • 9
    чи року наступного пло́ду не вродить воно. Коли ж ні, то зрубаєш його“.

    If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’ ”

    І навчав Він в одній з синагог у суботу.

    Jesus Heals a Crippled Woman on the Sabbath

    On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues,

    І ось там була́ одна жінка, що вісімнадцять ро́ків мала духа не́мочі, і була скорчена, і не могла ніяк ви́простатись.

    and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all.

    А Ісус, як побачив її, то покликав до Себе. І сказав їй: „Жінко, — звільнена ти від неду́ги своєї“.

    When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.”
  • 13
    І Він руки на неї поклав, — і вона зараз ви́просталась, — і стала сла́вити Бога!

    Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.
  • 14
    Озвався ж старши́й синагоги, обу́рений, що Ісус уздоро́вив у суботу, і сказав до наро́ду: „Є шість день, коли працювати належить, — приходьте тоді та вздоро́влюйтеся, а не дня суботнього“.

    Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue leader said to the people, “There are six days for work. So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.”

    А Госпо́дь відповів і промовив до нього: „Лицеміре, — хіба́ ж не відв'язує кожен із вас у суботу свого́ вола чи осла від я́сел, і не веде напоїти?

    The Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Doesn’t each of you on the Sabbath untie your ox or donkey from the stall and lead it out to give it water?
  • 16
    Чи ж цю дочку́ Авраамову, яку сатана був зв'язав вісімнадцять ось ро́ків, не належить звільни́ти її суботнього дня від цих пут?“

    Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?”

    А як Він говорив це, — засоро́милися всі Його супротивники. І тішився ввесь наро́д всіма славними вчинками, які Він чинив!

    When he said this, all his opponents were humiliated, but the people were delighted with all the wonderful things he was doing.

    Він же промовив: „До чо́го подібне Царство Боже, і до чо́го його прирівняю?

    The Parables of the Mustard Seed and the Yeast

    Then Jesus asked, “What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to?

    Подібне воно до гірчи́чного зе́рна, що взяв чоловік і посіяв його в своїм са́ді. І воно виросло, і деревом стало, і „ку́блилось птаство небесне на ві́ттях його“.

    It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds perched in its branches.”

    І зно́ву сказав Він: „Із чим порівняю Я Боже Царство?

    Again he asked, “What shall I compare the kingdom of God to?
  • 21
    Подібне до ро́зчини, що її бере жінка, і кладе на три мірки муки, аж поки все вки́сне“.

    It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty poundsa of flour until it worked all through the dough.”

    І прохо́див містами та се́лами Він і навчав, до Єрусалиму просту́ючи.

    The Narrow Door

    Then Jesus went through the towns and villages, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem.

    І озвався до Нього один: „Господи, — хіба буде мало спасе́них?“ А Він відказав їм:

    Someone asked him, “Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?”
    He said to them,

    „Силку́йтеся ввійти тісни́ми ворі́тьми, бо кажу́ вам, — багато-хто будуть намага́тися ввійти, — та не зможуть!

    “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.
  • 25
    Як устане Госпо́дар та двері замкне́, ви зачне́те висто́ювати ізнадво́ру, та стукати в двері й казати: „Господи, — відчини нам!“ А Він вам у відповідь скаже: „Не знаю Я вас, звідки ви!“

    Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Sir, open the door for us.’
    “But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’

    Тоді станете ви говорити: „Ми їли й пили перед Тобою і на вулицях наших навчав Ти“.

    “Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’
  • 27
    А Він вам відкаже: „Говорю́ вам, — не знаю Я, звідки ви. „Відійдіть від Мене всі, хто чинить неправду!“

    “But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’
  • 28
    Буде плач там і скре́гіт зубів, як побачите ви Авраама, та Ісака та Якова, та пророків усіх в Царстві Божім, себе ж — вигнаних геть.

    “There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out.

    І при́йдуть інші від сходу й захо́ду, і пі́вночі й пі́вдня, і при столі́ в Царстві Божім засядуть!

    People will come from east and west and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God.

    І ось, є останні, що стануть за перших, і є перші, що стануть останніми!“

    Indeed there are those who are last who will be first, and first who will be last.”

    Тієї години підійшли дехто з фарисеїв, і сказали Йому: „Вийди собі, і піди звідси, — хоче бо І́род убити Тебе“.

    Jesus’ Sorrow for Jerusalem

    At that time some Pharisees came to Jesus and said to him, “Leave this place and go somewhere else. Herod wants to kill you.”

    А Він відказав їм: „Ідіть і скажіть тому ли́сові: Ось де́монів Я виганяю, і чиню вздоро́влення, — сьогодні та взавтра, а третього дня закінчу́.

    He replied, “Go tell that fox, ‘I will keep on driving out demons and healing people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal.’

    Однак, Мені треба ходити сьогодні та взавтра, і ча́су найближчого, бо згинути не може пророк поза Єрусалимом.

    In any case, I must press on today and tomorrow and the next day — for surely no prophet can die outside Jerusalem!

    Єрусалиме, Єрусалиме, що вбиваєш пророків та камену́єш посла́них до тебе! Скільки раз Я хотів позбирати дітей твоїх, як та квочка збирає під крила курча́ток своїх, — та ви не захотіли!

    “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.

    Ось „ваш дім зостається порожній для вас!“ Говорю́ бо Я вам: Ви мене не побачите, аж поки не наста́не, що скажете: „Благослове́нний, Хто йде в Господнє Ім'я́!“

    Look, your house is left to you desolate. I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’b”
