Коли ж він був покликаний, то Тертил оскаржати зачав, промовляючи: „Через тебе великий мир маємо ми, і для наро́ду цього добрі речі впроваджено через дбайливість твою, —
And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy providence,
це ми за́вжди і скрізь визнаємо з подякою щирою, вседостойний наш Фе́ліксе!
We accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.
Та щоб довго тебе не турбува́ти, то благаю тебе, щоб ти коротко вислухав нас зо своєї ласка́вости.
Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency a few words.
Ми переконались, що цей чоловік — то зара́за, і що він колотнечу викли́кує між усіма юдеями в ці́лому світі, і що він провідни́к Назорейської єресі.
For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:

Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.
Але тисяцький Лі́сій прибув, і з великим наси́льством видер його з наших рук,
But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands,
а його винува́льникам звелів йти до тебе. Ти сам зможеш від нього, розпитавши, дізнатись про все, у чо́му його ми вину́ємо“.
Commanding his accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him.
Юдеї також прилучились до того, говорячи, що то так.
And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so.
І як намісник дав знака йому говорити, то Павло відповів: „Я знаю, що від літ багатьох ти суддя для наро́ду цього, — тому буду сміліш боронитись.
Paul Defends His Testimony
Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself:

Ти можеш довідатися, що нема більш дванадцяти день, як прийшов я до Єрусалиму вклонитися.
Because that thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem for to worship.
І вони ані в храмі, ані в синагогах, ні в місті мене не здиба́ли, щоб я з ким сперечався, або колотнечу в наро́ді здіймав.
And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:
І не можуть вони дове́сти тобі того, у чо́му тепер оскаржа́ють мене.
Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.
Але признаю́сь тобі, що в дорозі оцій, яку звуть вони єрессю, я Богові отців служу́ так, що вірую всьому, що в Зако́ні й у Пророків написане.
But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:
І маю надію я в Бозі, — чого й самі вони сподіва́ються, — що настане воскресіння праведних і неправедних.
And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.
І я пильно дба́ю про те, щоб за́всіди мати сумління невинне, щодо Бога й людей.
And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.
А по довгих рока́х я прибув, щоб подати моєму наро́дові ми́лостиню та при́носи.
Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings.
Ось при цьо́му знайшли мене дехто з юдеїв азійських очищеного в храмі, а не з на́товпом чи з колотнечею.
Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult.
їм належало б ось перед тебе прибути й казати, коли мають вони що на мене.
Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, if they had ought against me.
Або самі ці нехай скажуть, чи якусь неправду знайшли на мені, як я в синедріоні стояв,
Or else let these same here say, if they have found any evil doing in me, while I stood before the council,
крім отого єдиного виразу, що я його крикнув, стоячи́ серед них: „За воскресіння мертвих приймаю від вас суд сьогодні!“
Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.
Але Фе́лікс, дуже добре дорогу цю знавши, відро́чив їм справу, говорячи: „Розсуджу́ вашу справу, коли тисяцький Лісій прибу́де“.
Felix Holds Paul in Custody
And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter.

І він сотникові наказав сторожити Павла́, але мати полегшу, і не боронити ніко́му з близьки́х його, щоб служили йому.
And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him.
А по декількох днях прийшов Фе́лікс із дружи́ною своєю Друзі́ллою, що була юде́янка, і покликав Павла, та слухав від нього про віру в Ісуса Христа.
And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.
І як розповідав він про праведність, і про здержливість, та про майбу́тній суд, то Фе́лікса страх обгорнув, і він відповів: „Тепер іди собі, відповідного ж ча́су покличу тебе!“
And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.
Разом із тим і сподіва́вся він, що дасть Павло грошей йому, тому й часто його приклика́в і розмову з ним вів.
He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.
