Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Thou art permitted to speak for thyself. Then Paul stretched forth the hand, and answered for himself:

„О ца́рю Агріппо! Уважаю себе за щасливого, що сьогодні я перед тобою боронитися маю з усьо́го, у чім мене винуватять юдеї,
I think myself happy, king Agrippa, because I shall answer for myself this day before thee touching all the things whereof I am accused of the Jews:
особливо ж тому́, що ти знаєш усі юдейські звича́ї та супере́чки. Тому я прошу́ мене вислухати терпля́че.
Especially because I know thee to be expert in all customs and questions which are among the Jews: wherefore I beseech thee to hear me patiently.
А життя моє зма́лку, що споча́тку точилося в Єрусалимі серед наро́ду мого, знають усі юдеї,
My manner of life from my youth, which was at the first among mine own nation at Jerusalem, know all the Jews;
які відають зда́вна мене, аби тільки схотіли засві́дчити, — що я жив фарисеєм за найдокладнішою сектою нашої віри.
Which knew me from the beginning, if they would testify, that after the most straitest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee.
І тепер я стою отут су́джений за надію обі́тниці, що Бог дав ії нашим отцям,
And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made of God unto our fathers:
а її викона́ння чекають побачити наші дванадцять племен, слу́жачи Богові безперестанно вдень та вночі. За цю надію, о ца́рю, мене винуватять юдеї!
Unto which promise our twelve tribes, instantly serving God day and night, hope to come. For which hope's sake, king Agrippa, I am accused of the Jews.

Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you, that God should raise the dead?
Правда, ду́мав був я, що мені нале́жить чинити багато ворожого проти Ймення Ісуса Назаряни́на,
I verily thought with myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth.
що я в Єрусалимі й робив, і багато кого зо святих до в'язниць я замкнув, як отримав був вла́ду від первосвящеників; а як їх убивали, я голос давав проти них.
Which thing I also did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against them.
І часто по всіх синагогах караючи їх, до богозневаги примушував я, а лютуючи ве́льми на них, переслідував їх навіть по закордонних містах.
And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto strange cities.
Коли в цих справах я йшов до Дамаску зо вла́дою та припору́ченням первосвящеників,
Whereupon as I went to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests,
то опі́вдні, о ца́рю, на дорозі побачив я світло із неба, ясніше від світлости сонця, що ося́яло мене та тих, хто разом зо мною йшов!
At midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me.
І як ми всі повалились на землю, я голос почув, що мені говорив єврейською мовою: „Савле, Савле, — чому ти Мене переслідуєш? Трудно тобі бити ногою колю́чку!“
And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
А я запитав: „Хто Ти, Господи?“ А Він відказав: „Я Ісус, що Його переслідуєш ти.
And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.
Але підведи́ся, і стань на ноги свої. Бо на те Я з'явився тобі, щоб тебе вчинити слугою та свідком того, що ти бачив та що Я відкрию тобі.
But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee;
Визволяю тебе від твого наро́ду та від поган, до яких Я тебе посилаю, —
Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee,
відкрити їм очі, щоб вони наверну́лись від те́мряви в світло та від сатани́ної вла́ди до Бога, щоб вірою в Мене отримати їм дарува́ння гріхів і насліддя з освяченими“.
To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
Через це я, о ца́рю Агріппо, не був супротивний видінню небесному,
Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision:
але ме́шканцям перше Дамаску, потім Єрусалиму й усякого кра́ю юдейського та поганам я проповідував, щоб пока́ялися й наверну́лись до Бога, і чинили діла, гі́дні покая́ння.
But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.
Через це юдеї в святині схопи́ли мене та й хотіли роздерти.
For these causes the Jews caught me in the temple, and went about to kill me.
Але, поміч від Бога одержавши, я стою́ аж до дня сьогоднішнього та свідкую мало́му й великому, нічого не розповідаючи, окрім того, що сказали Пророки й Мойсей, що статися має, —
Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come:
що має Христос постраждати, що Він, як перший воскреснувши з мертвих, проповідувати буде світло народові й поганам!“
That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.
Коли ж він боронився отак, то Фест проказав гучни́м голосом: „Дурієш ти, Павле! Велика наука доводить тебе до нерозуму“!
Festus Interrupts Paul's Defense
And as he thus spake for himself, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad.

А Павло: „Не дурію — сказав, — о Фесте достойний, але провіщаю слова правди та щирого розуму.
But he said, I am not mad, most noble Festus; but speak forth the words of truth and soberness.
Цар бо знає про це, — до нього з відвагою я й промовляю. Бо не гада́ю я, щоб із цього щобудь схова́лось від нього, — бо не в за́кутку ді́ялось це.
For the king knoweth of these things, before whom also I speak freely: for I am persuaded that none of these things are hidden from him; for this thing was not done in a corner.
Чи віруєш, ца́рю Агріппо, Пророкам? Я знаю, що віруєш“.
King Agrippa, believest thou the prophets? I know that thou believest.
Агріппа ж Павлові: „Ти малощо не намовляєш мене, щоб я став християни́ном“.
Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.
А Павло: „Благав би я Бога, щоб чи мало, чи багато, — не тільки но ти, але й усі, хто чує сьогодні мене, зробились такими, як і я, крім оцих ланцюгів“.
And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds.
І встав цар та намісник, і Верні́ка та ті, хто з ними сидів.
And when he had thus spoken, the king rose up, and the governor, and Bernice, and they that sat with them:
І на́бік вони відійшли, і розмовляли один до одно́го й казали: „Нічого, ва́ртого смерти або ланцюгів, чоловік цей не робить!“
And when they were gone aside, they talked between themselves, saying, This man doeth nothing worthy of death or of bonds.
