    Greetings

    This letter is from John, the elder.a
    I am writing to the chosen lady and to her children,b whom I love in the truth — as does everyone else who knows the truth —

    за правду, що в нас пробував й повік буде з нами:

    because the truth lives in us and will be with us forever.

    нехай буде з вами благодать, милість, мир від Бога Отця та Ісуса Христа́, Сина Отцевого, у правді та в любові!

    Grace, mercy, and peace, which come from God the Father and from Jesus Christ — the Son of the Father — will continue to be with us who live in truth and love.

    Я дуже зрадів, що між ді́тьми твоїми знайшов таких, що ходять у правді, як заповідь ми прийняли́ від Отця.

    Live in the Truth

    How happy I was to meet some of your children and find them living according to the truth, just as the Father commanded.

    І тепер я благаю тебе, пані, не так, ніби пишу́ тобі нову́ заповідь, але ту, яку маємо від поча́тку, — щоб ми любили один о́дного!

    I am writing to remind you, dear friends,c that we should love one another. This is not a new commandment, but one we have had from the beginning.

    А любов ця — щоб ми жили згідно з Його заповідями. Це та заповідь, яку ви чули від поча́тку, щоб ви згідно з нею жили́.

    Love means doing what God has commanded us, and he has commanded us to love one another, just as you heard from the beginning.

    Бо в світ увійшло багато обма́нців, які не визнаю́ть Ісуса Христа, що прийшов був у тілі. Такий — то обманець та анти́христ!

    I say this because many deceivers have gone out into the world. They deny that Jesus Christ camed in a real body. Such a person is a deceiver and an antichrist.

    Пильнуйте себе, щоб ви не згубили того, над чим працювали, але щоб прийняли́ повну нагоро́ду.

    Watch out that you do not lose what wee have worked so hard to achieve. Be diligent so that you receive your full reward.

    Кожен, хто робить пере́ступ та не пробуває в науці Христовій, той Бога не має. А хто пробуває в науці Його́, той має і Отця, і Сина.

    Anyone who wanders away from this teaching has no relationship with God. But anyone who remains in the teaching of Christ has a relationship with both the Father and the Son.

    Коли хто приходить до вас, але не приносить науки цієї, не приймайте до дому його́, і не вітайте його́!

    If anyone comes to your meeting and does not teach the truth about Christ, don’t invite that person into your home or give any kind of encouragement.

    Хто бо вітає його́, той у́часть бере в лихи́х учинках його́.

    Anyone who encourages such people becomes a partner in their evil work.

    Багато я мав написати до вас, але не схотів на папері й чорнилом. Та маю надію прибути до вас, і говорити уста́ми до уст, щоб повна була́ ваша радість!

    Conclusion

    I have much more to say to you, but I don’t want to do it with paper and ink. For I hope to visit you soon and talk with you face to face. Then our joy will be complete.
