Greeting

Paul and Timothy, bondservants of Jesus Christ,
To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with the [a]bishops and deacons:

благода́ть вам і мир від Бога, Отця нашого, і Господа Ісуса Христа́!

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Дякую Богові своєму при кожній згадці про вас,

Thankfulness and Prayer

I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,

4

і за́вжди в усякій молитві своїй за всіх вас чиню́ я молитву з ра́дощами, —

4

always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy,

5

за участь вашу в Єва́нгелії від першого дня аж дотепе́р.

for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now,

6

Я певний того, що той, хто в вас розпочав добре ді́ло, виконає його аж до дня Христа Ісуса.

being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;

7

Бо то справедливо мені ду́мати це про всіх вас, бо я маю вас у серці, а ви всі в кайда́нах моїх, і в обороні, і в утве́рдженні Єва́нгелії — спільники мої в благодаті.

just as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me of grace.

Бо Бог мені свідок, що тужу́ я за вами всіма́ в сердечній любові Христа Ісуса.

For God is my witness, how greatly I long for you all with the affection of Jesus Christ.

9

І молюсь я про те, щоб ваша любов примножа́лась ще більше та більше в пізна́нні й усякім дослі́дженні,

And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment,

10

щоб ви досліджували те, що краще, щоб чисті та ці́лі були Христового дня,

10

that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ,

11

напо́внені плодів праведности через Ісуса Христа, на славу та на хвалу Божу.

11

being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

12

Бажаю ж я, браття, щоб ві́дали ви, що те, що сталось мені, вийшло більше на успіх Єва́нгелії,

Christ Is Preached

But I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel,

13

бо в усій прето́рії та всім іншим стали відо́мі кайда́ни мої за Христа.

13

so that it has become evident to the whole [b]palace guard, and to all the rest, that my chains are in Christ;

14

А багато братів у Господі через кайда́ни мої посміліли та ще більше відва́жилися Слово Боже звіщати безстрашно.

14

and most of the brethren in the Lord, having become confident by my chains, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.

15

Одні, правда, і через за́здрощі та колотне́чу, другі ж із доброї волі Христа проповідують;

15

Some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife, and some also from goodwill:

16

а інші з любови, зна́ючи, що я поставлений на оборону Єва́нгелії;

16

[c]The former preach Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains;

17

а інші через пі́дступ звіщають Христа нещиро, ду́маючи, що додаду́ть тягару́ до кайда́нів моїх.

17

but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel.

18

Але що ж? У всякому разі, чи облудно, чи щиро, Христос проповідується, а тим я радію та й бу́ду радіти.

18

What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice.

19

Бо знаю, що це бу́де мені на спасі́ння через вашу молитву й допомогу Духа Ісуса Христа,

19

To Live Is Christ

For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,

20

через чека́ння й надію мою, що я ні в чо́му не бу́ду посоро́млений, але ці́лою сміли́вістю, як за́вжди, так і тепер Христос буде звели́чений у тілі моїм, чи то життям, чи то смертю.

20

according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.

21

Бо для мене життя — то Христос, а смерть — то надба́ння.

21

For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

22

А коли життя в тілі — то для мене плід ді́ла, то не знаю, що́ вибрати.

22

But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I [d]cannot tell.

23

Тягнуть мене одне й друге, хоч маю я бажа́ння померти та бути з Христом, бо це значно ліпше.

23

[e]For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.

24

А щоб полишатися в тілі, то це потрібніш ради вас.

24

Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you.

25

І оце знаю певно, що зали́шусь я, і пробува́тиму з вами всіма́ вам на ко́ристь та на ра́дощі в вірі,

25

And being confident of this, I know that I shall remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy of faith,

26

щоб ваша хвала́ через мене примно́жилася в Христі Ісусі, коли зно́ву прийду́ я до вас.

26

that your rejoicing for me may be more abundant in Jesus Christ by my coming to you again.

27

Тільки живіть згідно з Христовою Єва́нгелією, щоб, — чи прийду́ я й побачу вас, чи й не бувши — почув я про вас, що ви стоїте́ в однім дусі, бо́рючись однодушно за віру єва́нгельську,

Striving and Suffering for Christ

Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel,

28

і ні в чо́му не боячи́ся противників; це їм доказ загибелі, вам же спасі́ння. А це від Бога!

28

and not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them a proof of perdition, but [f]to you of salvation, and that from God.

29

Бо вчинено вам за Христа доброді́йство, — не тільки вірувати в Нього, але і страждати за Нього,

29

For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake,

30

маючи таку саму боротьбу́, яку ви бачили в мені, а тепер чуєте про мене.

30

having the same conflict which you saw in me and now hear is in me.
