Thanksgiving and Prayer
We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you,

since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints,

because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel,

And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,
щоб ви пово́дилися нале́жно щодо Господа в усякому дого́дженні, в усякому доброму ді́лі прино́сячи плід і зростаючи в пізна́нні Бога,
so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
зміцняючись усякою силою за могутністю слави Його для всякої витрива́лости й довготерпі́ння з радістю,
being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy;
дя́куючи Отцеві, що вчинив нас достойними участи в спа́дщині святих у світлі,
що визволив нас із вла́ди те́мряви й переставив нас до Царства Свого улю́бленого Сина,
He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,
в Якім маємо відку́плення і про́щення гріхів.
in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

The Preeminence of Christ
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.

Бо то Ним ство́рено все на небі й на землі, види́ме й невиди́ме, чи то престоли, чи то госпо́дства, чи то влади, чи то начальства, — усе через Нього й для Нього створено!
А Він є перший від усього, і все в Нім стоїть.
And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
І Він — Голова тіла, Церкви. Він початок, перворо́джений з мертвих, щоб у всьому Він мав пе́ршенство.
And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.
Бо вгодно було́, щоб у Нім перебува́ла вся повнота́,
For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell,
і щоб Ним поєднати з Собою все, примиривши кров'ю хреста Його, через Нього, чи то зе́мне, чи то небесне.
and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
І вас, що були́ колись відчужені й вороги думкою в злих учинках,
And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds,
тепер же примирив смертю в лю́дськім тілі Його, щоб учинити вас святими, і непорочними, і неповинними перед Собою,
he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him,
якщо тільки пробува́єте в вірі тверді́ та ста́лі, і не відпадаєте від надії Єва́нгелії, що ви чули її, яка проповідана всьому створі́нню під небом, якій я, Павло, став служи́телем.

Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church,

якій я став служи́телем за Божим заря́дженням, що для вас мені дане, щоб виконати Слово Боже, —
of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God that was given to me for you, to make the word of God fully known,
Таємницю, захо́вану від віків і поколінь, а тепер виявлену Його святим,
the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now revealed to his saints.
що їм Бог захотів показати, яке багатство слави цієї таємниці між поганами, а вона — Христос у вас, надія слави!
To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
Його ми проповідуємо, нагадуючи кожній люди́ні й навчаючи кожну люди́ну всякої мудрости, щоб учинити кожну люди́ну досконалою в Христі.
Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.
