Titus 1

Павло́, раб Божий, а апо́стол Ісуса Христа, по вірі ви́браних Божих і пізна́нні правди, що за благоче́стям,

Greeting

Paul, a servanta of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the sake of the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth, which accords with godliness,

в надії вічного життя, яке обіцяв був від вічних часів необма́нливий Бог,

in hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages beganb

і ча́су свого з'явив Слово Своє в пропові́данні, що дору́чене було мені з наказу Спасителя нашого Бога, —

and at the proper time manifested in his wordc through the preaching with which I have been entrusted by the command of God our Savior;

до Тита, щирого сина за спільною ві́рою: благодать, милість та мир від Бога Отця й Христа Ісуса, Спасителя нашого!

To Titus, my true child in a common faith:
Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

Я для того тебе полиши́в був у Кріті, щоб ти впорядкував недокінчене та пресвітерів настанови́в по містах, як тобі я звелів, —

Qualifications for Elders

This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained into order, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you —

коли хто бездога́нний, муж єдиної дружи́ни, має вірних дітей, недокорених за блуд або неслухня́ність.

if anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife,d and his children are believerse and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination.

Бо єпи́скоп мусить бути бездоганний, як Божий доморя́дник, не самолюбний, не гнівли́вий, не п'яни́ця, не заводія́ка, не кори́сливий,

For an overseer,f as God’s steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain,

але гостинний до при́ходнів, добролюбець, поміркований, справедливий, побожний, стри́маний,

but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined.

що трима́ється вірного слова згідно з наукою, щоб мав силу й навчати в здоровій науці, і переконувати противних.

He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in soundg doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.

Багато бо є неслухня́них, марносло́вців, зводників, особливо ж з обрізаних, —

For there are many who are insubordinate, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision party.h

їм треба уста́ затуляти: вони ці́лі доми баламу́тять, навчаючи, чого не належить, для зиску брудно́го.

They must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for shameful gain what they ought not to teach.

Сказав один з них, їхній власний пророк: „Крітяни за́вжди брехливі, люті звірі, черева́ні ліниві“!

One of the Cretans,i a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.”j

Це свідоцтво правдиве. Ради цієї причини докоряй їм суворо, щоб у вірі здорові були́,

This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith,

і на юдейські байки́ не вважали, ані на нака́зи людей, що від правди відверта́ються.

not devoting themselves to Jewish myths and the commands of people who turn away from the truth.

Для чистих все чисте, а для занечищених та для невірних не чисте ніщо, але занечи́стилися і розум їхній, і сумління.

To the pure, all things are pure, but to the defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but both their minds and their consciences are defiled.

Вони тве́рдять, немов знають Бога, але відкидаються вчинками, бувши бридкі́ й неслухняні, і до всякого доброго діла нездатні.

They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work.
