Then Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) and all the people who were with him rose early and encamped beside the well of Harod, so that the camp of the Midianites was on the north side of them by the hill of Moreh in the valley.

І сказав Господь до Гедеона: „Числе́нний той народ, що з тобою, щоб Я дав мідіянітян в його руку, — щоб не запиша́вся надо Мною Ізраїль, говорячи: Рука моя спасла мене.
And the Lord said to Gideon, “The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel claim glory for itself against Me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.’
А тепер поклич до ушей люду, говорячи: Хто боїться й тремтить, нехай ве́рнеться й віді́йде від гори Ґілеа́д“. І верну́лося з народу двадцять і дві тисячі, а десять тисяч позоста́лось.
Now therefore, proclaim in the hearing of the people, saying, ‘Whoever is fearful and afraid, let him turn and depart at once from Mount Gilead.’ ” And twenty-two thousand of the people returned, and ten thousand remained.
І сказав Господь до Гедеона: „Ще числе́нний цей народ. Зведи їх до води, і Я там переберу́ його тобі. І буде, як Я скажу́ тобі: Цей пі́де з тобою, — той пі́де з тобою, а кожен, що скажу́ тобі: Цей не пі́де з тобою, той не пі́де“.
But the Lord said to Gideon, “The people are still too many; bring them down to the water, and I will test them for you there. Then it will be, that of whom I say to you, ‘This one shall go with you,’ the same shall go with you; and of whomever I say to you, ‘This one shall not go with you,’ the same shall not go.”
І привів він народ до води. І сказав Господь до Гедеона: „Кожен, хто буде хле́птати воду язиком своїм, як хле́пче пес, поставиш його окремо. А кожен, хто припаде́ на коліна свої, щоб пити, — поставиш його окремо“.
So he brought the people down to the water. And the Lord said to Gideon, “Everyone who laps from the water with his tongue, as a dog laps, you shall set apart by himself; likewise everyone who gets down on his knees to drink.”
І було число тих, що хле́птали, носячи рукою своєю до уст своїх, три сотні чоловіка, а вся решта народу припали на коліна свої, щоб пити во́ду.
And the number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men; but all the rest of the people got down on their knees to drink water.
І сказав Господь до Гедеона: „Трьома́ сотнями мужів, що хле́птали, спасу тебе, і дам мідіяні́тян у твою руку, а ввесь наро́д пі́де кожен на своє місце“.
І взяли́ вони в свою руку пожи́ву народу та свої су́рми, а всіх інших ізра́їльтян він відпустив, кожного до наме́ту свого́, а три сотні мужа затримав. А мідіяні́тянський та́бір був під ним у долині.
So the people took provisions and their trumpets in their hands. And he sent away all the rest of Israel, every man to his tent, and retained those three hundred men. Now the camp of Midian was below him in the valley.
І сталося тієї ночі, і сказав до нього Господь: „Устань, зійди́ до табо́ру, бо Я дав його в руку твою.
It happened on the same night that the Lord said to him, “Arise, go down against the camp, for I have delivered it into your hand.
А якщо ти боїшся зійти, зійди ти та Пура, твій слуга, до табо́ру.
But if you are afraid to go down, go down to the camp with Purah your servant,
І почуєш, що́ вони говорять, а потім змі́цняться твої ру́ки, і ти зі́йдеш до табо́ру“. І зійшов він та Пура, слуга його, до кра́ю озброєних у табо́рі.
А мідіяні́тяни й амалики́тяни та всі сини Кедему лежали в долині, як сарана́, щодо числе́нности. А верблю́дам їх нема числа, — як пісок на бе́резі моря, щодо числе́нности.
І прийшов Гедео́н, аж ось один оповідає другові своєму сон. І він казав: „Оце снився мені сон, а ото бухане́ць ячмі́нного хліба ко́титься в мідіяні́тянському табо́рі. І докоти́вся він аж до наме́ту, та й ударив його, а той упав, і переверну́в його догори́, і намет той бу́хнув“.
And when Gideon had come, there was a man telling a dream to his companion. He said, “I have had a dream: To my surprise, a loaf of barley bread tumbled into the camp of Midian; it came to a tent and struck it so that it fell and overturned, and the tent collapsed.”
І відповів його друг та й сказав: „Це ніщо інше, як меч Гедеона, Йоашового сина, мужа Ізраїльського, — Бог дав у його руку мідіяні́тян та ввесь та́бір“.
Then his companion answered and said, “This is nothing else but the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel! Into his hand God has delivered Midian and the whole camp.”
І сталося, як Гедеон почув оповіда́ння про той сон та розга́дку його, то вклонився, і вернувся до Ізраїлевого табо́ру та й сказав: „Уставайте, бо Господь дав у вашу руку мідіяні́тянський та́бір!“
And so it was, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream and its interpretation, that he worshiped. He returned to the camp of Israel, and said, “Arise, for the Lord has delivered the camp of Midian into your hand.”
І поділив він три сотні тих мужів на три відділи, і дав у руку їх усіх су́рми, і порожні гле́ки, та смолоски́пи до сере́дини тих гле́ків.
Then he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet into every man’s hand, with empty pitchers, and torches inside the pitchers.
І сказав він до них: „Що́ будете бачити від мене, то й ви так зробите. А ось я піду́ до кра́ю табо́ру, і буде, — я́к я зроблю́, так зробите й ви.
And he said to them, “Look at me and do likewise; watch, and when I come to the edge of the camp you shall do as I do:
І засурмлю́ в сурму́ я та всі, що зо мною, то засурмите́ в су́рми й ви навколо всього табо́ру, та й скажете: меч за Господа та за Гедеона!“
When I blow the trumpet, I and all who are with me, then you also blow the trumpets on every side of the whole camp, and say, ‘The sword of the Lord and of Gideon!’ ”
І прийшов Гедеон та сотня мужів, що з ним, до кра́ю табо́ру, на початку середньої сторо́жі, коли тільки но поставили сторо́жу. І засурми́ли вони в су́рми, і побили гле́ки, що в їхніх руках.
So Gideon and the hundred men who were with him came to the outpost of the camp at the beginning of the middle watch, just as they had posted the watch; and they blew the trumpets and broke the pitchers that were in their hands.
І засурми́ли три відділи в су́рми, і поторо́щили гле́ки, і тримали рукою своєї ліви́ці смолоски́па, а рукою своєї прави́ці — су́рми, щоб сурми́ти. І кричали вони: „Меч за Господа та за Гедеона!“
Then the three companies blew the trumpets and broke the pitchers — they held the torches in their left hands and the trumpets in their right hands for blowing — and they cried, “The sword of the Lord and of Gideon!”
І стояли кожен на своїм місці навко́ло табо́ру, а ввесь та́бір бігав, і вони кричали й утікали.
And every man stood in his place all around the camp; and the whole army ran and cried out and fled.
І засурми́ли три сотні су́рем, а Господь обернув меча одного на о́дного та на ввесь та́бір. І та́бір побіг аж до Бет-Гашшітта до Церери, аж до Сефат-Авел-Мехоли при Таббаті.
І були скликані ізра́їльтяни з Нефтали́му, і з Асиру, і з усього Манасі́ї, — і вони гналися за мідіяні́тянами.
And the men of Israel gathered together from Naphtali, Asher, and all Manasseh, and pursued the Midianites.
А по всіх Єфремових гора́х Гедеон послав послів, говорячи: „Зійдіть навпере́йми мідіяні́тян, і заступіть їм воду аж до Бет-Бари та Йорда́н“. І скликали всіх Єфремових людей, та й заступили воду аж до Бет-Бари та Йорда́н.
Then Gideon sent messengers throughout all the mountains of Ephraim, saying, “Come down against the Midianites, and seize from them the watering places as far as Beth Barah and the Jordan.” Then all the men of Ephraim gathered together and seized the watering places as far as Beth Barah and the Jordan.
І вони захопи́ли двох мідіяні́тянських князі́в: Орева та Зеева, і вбили Орева в Цур-Ореві, а Зеева вбили в Екев-Зееві. І гналися за мідіянітянами, а го́лови Орева та Зеева перене́сли до Гедеона на той бік Йорда́ну.
And they captured two princes of the Midianites, Oreb and Zeeb. They killed Oreb at the rock of Oreb, and Zeeb they killed at the winepress of Zeeb. They pursued Midian and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon on the other side of the Jordan.
