Господь промовив до Мойсея й Аарона, кажучи:

Clean and Unclean Animals

And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying to them,

Промовте до ізраїльських синів, кажучи:
З-поміж усіх тварин, які живуть на землі, ось тварини, які ви можете їсти:

“Speak to the people of Israel, saying, These are the living things that you may eat among all the animals that are on the earth.

з-поміж усіх тварин кожну тварину, яка має роздвоєне копито й має розділені на дві частини ратиці, і яка відригує жуйку, — тих можете їсти.

Whatever parts the hoof and is cloven-footed and chews the cud, among the animals, you may eat.

Лишень не їстимете з них — із тих, які відригують жуйку, та з тих, які мають роздвоєні копита й мають розділені ратиці: верблюда, — бо він відригує жуйку, та не має роздвоєного копита, — тож він для вас нечистий;

Nevertheless, among those that chew the cud or part the hoof, you shall not eat these: The camel, because it chews the cud but does not part the hoof, is unclean to you.

And the rock badger, because it chews the cud but does not part the hoof, is unclean to you.

And the hare, because it chews the cud but does not part the hoof, is unclean to you.

свині, — бо вона має роздвоєне копито й має розділені ратиці копита, та не відригує жуйки, — тож вона для вас нечиста.

And the pig, because it parts the hoof and is cloven-footed but does not chew the cud, is unclean to you.

Не будете їсти їхнього м’яса й не будете торкатися їхньої мертвечини, — вони для вас нечисті.

You shall not eat any of their flesh, and you shall not touch their carcasses; they are unclean to you.

9

А ось те, що ви можете їсти з усього, що живе у водах: усе те у водах, у морях та в річках, що в нього є плавники й луска, — те можете їсти.

“These you may eat, of all that are in the waters. Everything in the waters that has fins and scales, whether in the seas or in the rivers, you may eat.

А все те у водах чи в морях та в річках — з-поміж усього, що видають води, з-поміж усіх живих душ, які живуть у воді, — що в нього немає ні плавників, ані луски, — те є гидотою.

But anything in the seas or the rivers that does not have fins and scales, of the swarming creatures in the waters and of the living creatures that are in the waters, is detestable to you.

11

Нехай воно буде для вас гидотою — не їстимете їхнього м’яса й гидуватимете їхньою мертвечиною.

You shall regard them as detestable; you shall not eat any of their flesh, and you shall detest their carcasses.

12

Усе те у водах, що в нього немає плавників та луски, — те для вас є гидотою.

Everything in the waters that does not have fins and scales is detestable to you.

13

А з птахів гидуватимете оцим — і воно не їстиметься, воно є гидотою: орлом, грифом, морським орлом,

“And these you shall detest among the birds;a they shall not be eaten; they are detestable: the eagle,b the bearded vulture, the black vulture,

14

коршаком, соколом і подібними до нього;

the kite, the falcon of any kind,

15

вороною і подібними до неї;

every raven of any kind,

16

страусом, совою, чайкою і подібними до неї, яструбом і подібними до нього;

the ostrich, the nighthawk, the sea gull, the hawk of any kind,

17

вухатою совою, бакланом, ібісом,

17

the little owl, the cormorant, the short-eared owl,

18

лискою, пеліканом, лебедем,

18

the barn owl, the tawny owl, the carrion vulture,

19

чаплею, сивкою і подібними до неї; одудом та кажаном.

the stork, the heron of any kind, the hoopoe, and the bat.

20

Усі плазуючі з крилатих, які пересуваються на чотирьох, — гидота для вас.

20

“All winged insects that go on all fours are detestable to you.

21

Однак із плазуючих крилатих, які пересуваються на чотирьох, можете їсти тих, які мають голінки вище рівня своїх лап, щоб ними стрибати по землі.

Yet among the winged insects that go on all fours you may eat those that have jointed legs above their feet, with which to hop on the ground.

22

Можете з них їсти оце: личинки сарани і подібне до них, цвіркуна і подібне до нього, сарану і подібне до неї, та коника і подібне до нього.

22

Of them you may eat: the locust of any kind, the bald locust of any kind, the cricket of any kind, and the grasshopper of any kind.

23

Усе ж інше плазуюче з крилатих, що має чотири лапи, є для вас гидотою,

But all other winged insects that have four feet are detestable to you.

24

і ви ним осквернитеся: кожний, хто доторкнеться до їхньої мертвечини, буде нечистий до вечора,

“And by these you shall become unclean. Whoever touches their carcass shall be unclean until the evening,

25

і кожний, хто нестиме їхню мертвечину, нехай випере одяг, — і буде нечистий до вечора.

and whoever carries any part of their carcass shall wash his clothes and be unclean until the evening.

26

Те, що серед усіх тварин має роздвоєні копита чи має розділені ратиці, та жуйки не жує, буде для вас нечисте. Кожний, хто доторкнеться до їхньої мертвечини, буде нечистий аж до вечора.

Every animal that parts the hoof but is not cloven-footed or does not chew the cud is unclean to you. Everyone who touches them shall be unclean.

27

З-поміж усіх чотириногих звірів усі ті, що ходять на лапах, будуть для вас нечисті. Кожний, хто доторкнеться до їх мертвечини, буде нечистим до вечора,

And all that walk on their paws, among the animals that go on all fours, are unclean to you. Whoever touches their carcass shall be unclean until the evening,

28

і хто нестиме їхню мертвечину, нехай випере одяг — і буде нечистим до вечора. Це буде для вас нечисте.

and he who carries their carcass shall wash his clothes and be unclean until the evening; they are unclean to you.

29

А з плазуючих, які повзають по землі, нечисті будуть для вас оці: ласка, миша, варан,

“And these are unclean to you among the swarming things that swarm on the ground: the mole rat, the mouse, the great lizard of any kind,

30

землерийка, хамелеон, гекон, ящірка та кріт.

30

the gecko, the monitor lizard, the lizard, the sand lizard, and the chameleon.

31

З усіх плазуючих, що живуть на землі, вони будуть для вас нечисті. Кожний, хто доторкнеться до них мертвих, буде нечистим до вечора.

These are unclean to you among all that swarm. Whoever touches them when they are dead shall be unclean until the evening.

32

Усе, на що впало б щось із них, коли вони мертві, буде нечистим — будь-яке знаряддя з дерева, чи тканини, чи шкіри, чи мішковини; кожне знаряддя, що ним здійснюється будь-яке діло, нехай буде замочене у воді, — і воно буде нечистим до вечора, а тоді стане чистим.

And anything on which any of them falls when they are dead shall be unclean, whether it is an article of wood or a garment or a skin or a sack, any article that is used for any purpose. It must be put into water, and it shall be unclean until the evening; then it shall be clean.

33

Кожна глиняна посудина, усередину до якої впало б котресь із них, — те, що було всередині, буде нечисте, а її саму нехай розіб’ють.

And if any of them falls into any earthenware vessel, all that is in it shall be unclean, and you shall break it.

34

Усяка їжа, яка їсться, що на неї потрапить вода з такої посудини, буде нечиста. Усякий напій, який п’ється з кожної такої посудини, буде нечистим.

Any food in it that could be eaten, on which water comes, shall be unclean. And all drink that could be drunk from every such vessel shall be unclean.

35

Усе, що на нього впало б щось із їхньої мертвечини, буде нечистим. Печі й підставки для казанів нехай будуть повалені: вони є нечисті й нехай будуть нечистими для вас.

And everything on which any part of their carcass falls shall be unclean. Whether oven or stove, it shall be broken in pieces. They are unclean and shall remain unclean for you.

36

Тільки джерела вод, ставок і водоймище будуть чистими. Хто доторкнеться до їхньої мертвечини, буде нечистим.

Nevertheless, a spring or a cistern holding water shall be clean, but whoever touches a carcass in them shall be unclean.

37

Якщо щось із їхньої мертвечини впаде на будь-яке посівне насіння, що має засіватися, то воно чисте.

And if any part of their carcass falls upon any seed grain that is to be sown, it is clean,

38

Якщо ж на будь-яке насіння проллється вода, і щось з їхньої мертвечини впаде на нього, то воно для вас нечисте.

but if water is put on the seed and any part of their carcass falls on it, it is unclean to you.

39

Якщо здохне щось із худоби, що її вам дозволено їсти, то хто доторкнеться до її мертвечини, буде нечистим до вечора.

“And if any animal which you may eat dies, whoever touches its carcass shall be unclean until the evening,

40

Хто їстиме з її мертвечини, нехай випере одяг — і буде нечистим до вечора. Хто нестиме щось з їхньої мертвечини, нехай випере одяг і помиється водою — і буде нечистим до вечора.

and whoever eats of its carcass shall wash his clothes and be unclean until the evening. And whoever carries the carcass shall wash his clothes and be unclean until the evening.

41

Усе плазуюче, що повзає по землі, буде для вас гидотою, не їстиметься.

41

“Every swarming thing that swarms on the ground is detestable; it shall not be eaten.

42

З усіх плазуючих, які повзають по землі, усе, що пересувається на череві, і все, що завжди переміщається на чотирьох, що має багато ніг, — не їстимете його, бо воно для вас — гидота.

42

Whatever goes on its belly, and whatever goes on all fours, or whatever has many feet, any swarming thing that swarms on the ground, you shall not eat, for they are detestable.

43

Не чинитимете свої душі огидними через ніяких плазуючих, які повзають по землі, не оскверняватиметеся через них, і не будете ставати через них нечистими.

43

You shall not make yourselves detestable with any swarming thing that swarms, and you shall not defile yourselves with them, and become unclean through them.

44

Адже Я є Господь, ваш Бог, — тож і ви будете освячуватися й будете святими, бо святим є Я, Господь, ваш Бог. Не оскверняйте ваших душ ніякими плазуючими, які рухаються по землі.

44

For I am the Lord your God. Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy. You shall not defile yourselves with any swarming thing that crawls on the ground.

45

Я є Господь, Який вивів вас із Єгипетської землі, щоб бути для вас Богом. Тож і ви будьте святими, бо святим є Я, Господь.

45

For I am the Lord who brought you up out of the land of Egypt to be your God. You shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.”

46

Такий закон про тварин, про птахів, про всяку душу, що рухається у воді, та всяку душу, що повзає по землі, —

46

This is the law about beast and bird and every living creature that moves through the waters and every creature that swarms on the ground,

47

щоб розрізняти між собою нечисте й чисте, звірину, яку можна їсти, та звірину, яку не можна їсти.

47

to make a distinction between the unclean and the clean and between the living creature that may be eaten and the living creature that may not be eaten.
