Ось Я посилаю Мого ангела, і він роздивиться дорогу перед Моїм обличчям, і зненацька до храму прийде Господь, Якого ви шукаєте, і Ангел завіту, Якого ви бажаєте. Ось Він приходить! — говорить Господь Вседержитель.

The Coming Messenger

“Behold, I send My messenger,
And he will prepare the way before Me.
And the Lord, whom you seek,
Will suddenly come to His temple,
Even the Messenger of the covenant,
In whom you delight.
Behold, He is coming,”
Says the Lord of hosts.

І хто з нетерпінням очікує день Його приходу? Чи хто встоїть у Його появі? Тому що Він увійде, як вогонь горнила і як мило [1] тих, що перуть.

“But who can endure the day of His coming?
And who can stand when He appears?
For He is like a refiner’s fire
And like launderers’ soap.

3

І сяде, розтоплюючи і очищаючи, як срібло і як золото. І Він очистить синів Левія, і виллє їх, як золото і як срібло. І будуть приносити Господу жертву в праведності.

He will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver;
He will purify the sons of Levi,
And [a]purge them as gold and silver,
That they may offer to the Lord
An offering in righteousness.

4

І милою буде Господу жертва Юди та Єрусалима, як і у вічні дні й так, як у попередні літа,

“Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem
Will be [b]pleasant to the Lord,
As in the days of old,
As in former years.

5

і Я прийду до вас у суді, і буду швидким свідком над чародіями, над перелюбниками і над тими, що оманливо клянуться Моїм Іменем, і над тими, що затримують винагороду найманця і чинять утиски вдові, побивають сиріт і відвертають суд чужинцеві, — тим, що Мене не бояться, — говорить Господь Вседержитель.

And I will come near you for judgment;
I will be a swift witness
Against sorcerers,
Against adulterers,
Against perjurers,
Against those who exploit wage earners and widows and orphans,
And against those who turn away an alien —
Because they do not fear Me,”
Says the Lord of hosts.

Тому що Я — ваш Господь Бог, і Я не змінююся. А ви, сини Якова, не стрималися

“For I am the Lord, I do not change;
Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.

7

від неправедностей ваших батьків, ви відхилили Мої закони і не дотримувалися. Поверніться до Мене, і Я повернуся до вас, — говорить Господь Вседержитель. А ви сказали: У чому повернемося?

Yet from the days of your fathers
You have gone away from My ordinances
And have not kept them.
Return to Me, and I will return to you,”
Says the Lord of hosts.
“But you said,
‘In what way shall we return?’

8

Хіба людина наступить Богові на п’яту? Через те, що ви наступаєте Мені на п’яту, і кажете: У чому ми Тобі наступили на п’яту? Тому що з вами десятини і первоплоди!

Do Not Rob God

“Will a man rob God?
Yet you have robbed Me!
But you say,
‘In what way have we robbed You?’
In tithes and offerings.

9

І, дивлячись убік, ви дивитеся вбік, і ви Мені наступаєте на п’яту. Народ скінчився.

You are cursed with a curse,
For you have robbed Me,
Even this whole nation.

10

І ви внесли всі приноси до скарбниць, і в Моєму домі буде здобич. Перевірте себе в цьому, — говорить Господь Вседержитель, — чи Я не відкрию вам отвори неба і не виллю на вас Мого благословення вдосталь.

Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,
That there may be food in My house,
And try Me now in this,”
Says the Lord of hosts,
“If I will not open for you the windows of heaven
And pour out for you such blessing
That there will not be room enough to receive it.

11

І заповім вам на їжу, і не знищу вам плід землі, і не знеможе ваш виноградник у полі, — говорить Господь Вседержитель.

“And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes,
So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground,
Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,”
Says the Lord of hosts;

12

І блаженними назвуть вас усі народи, тому що ви будете бажаною землею, — говорить Господь Вседержитель.

“And all nations will call you blessed,
For you will be a delightful land,”
Says the Lord of hosts.

13

Тяжкими ви Мені зробили ваші слова, — говорить Господь, — і ви сказали: У чому ми говорили проти Тебе?

The People Complain Harshly

“Your words have been [c]harsh against Me,”
Says the Lord,
“Yet you say,
‘What have we spoken against You?’

14

Ви сказали: Безумний той, хто служить Богові, і чого більше маємо, оскільки ми зберігали Його закони, і тому що ми пішли, як ті, що моляться перед обличчям Господа Вседержителя?

You have said,
‘It is useless to serve God;
What profit is it that we have kept His ordinance,
And that we have walked as mourners
Before the Lord of hosts?

15

І тепер ми блаженними називаємо чужинців, і вони поселяються, чинячи беззаконне, стали проти Бога і врятувалися.

15

So now we call the proud blessed,
For those who do wickedness are [d]raised up;
They even tempt God and go free.’ ”

16

Так сказали ті, що боялися Господа, — кожний до свого ближнього, — і Господь сприйняв, вислухав і записав у книгу літопису перед Ним, — тих, що боялися Господа, і що вшановують Його Ім’я.

A Book of Remembrance

Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another,
And the Lord listened and heard them;
So a book of remembrance was written before Him
For those who fear the Lord
And who [e]meditate on His name.

17

І вони будуть Мої, — говорить Господь Вседержитель, — у день, в який Я вчиню на здобуття, і Я їх виберу, як і чоловік вибирає свого сина, що йому служить.

17

“They shall be Mine,” says the Lord of hosts,
“On the day that I make them My jewels.[f]
And I will spare them
As a man spares his own son who serves him.”

18

І ви повернетеся, і побачите різницю між праведним і між беззаконним, і між тим, що служить Богові, і тим, що не служить.

18

Then you shall again discern
Between the righteous and the wicked,
Between one who serves God
And one who does not serve Him.
