Ви завжди маєте бідних біля себе і будь-коли можете робити їм добро; Мене ж не завжди ви маєте.
For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want, you can do good for them. But you will not always have me.
Що вона могла — те й зробила: заздалегідь намастила Моє тіло перед похороном.
She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for burial.
Запевняю вас: де тільки буде проповідуватися [це] Євангеліє в усьому світі, — те, що вона зробила, буде сказано в її пам’ять!
And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her.”

І відійшли учні, і прийшли в місто, і знайшли так, як Він сказав їм, — і приготували пасху.
And the disciples set out and went to the city and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover.
А коли настав вечір, Він прийшов з дванадцятьма.

And as they were reclining at table and eating, Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me, one who is eating with me.”

They began to be sorrowful and to say to him one after another, “Is it I?”
Він же сказав їм: Один з дванадцятьох, хто вмочає зі Мною в одній мисці.
He said to them, “It is one of the twelve, one who is dipping bread into the dish with me.
І хоча Син Людський іде так, як написано про Нього, та горе тій людині, через яку Син Людський буде виданий. Краще було б тій людині не народитися!
For the Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.”
Коли вони їли, [Ісус] узяв хліб, поблагословив, переломив, подав їм і сказав: Прийміть, [споживайте], це тіло Моє!
Institution of the Lord’s Supper
And as they were eating, he took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to them, and said, “Take; this is my body.”

Jesus Foretells Peter’s Denial

And Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.”
Однак він ще сильніше запевняв: Хоч мав би я померти з Тобою, — все одно не відречуся від Тебе! Так само говорили й усі інші.
But he said emphatically, “If I must die with you, I will not deny you.” And they all said the same.
І прийшли вони до місця, що зветься Гетсиманія; Він каже Своїм учням: Посидьте тут, поки Я помолюся.
Jesus Prays in Gethsemane
And they went to a place called Gethsemane. And he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.”

Відійшовши трохи, Він упав на землю і молився, щоб, коли це можливо, оминула Його ця година.
And going a little farther, he fell on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.
І Він казав: Авва, Отче! Для Тебе можливе все! Забери цю чашу від Мене! Але хай буде не те, що Я хочу, але те, що Ти!
And he said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”

And he came and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Could you not watch one hour?

Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
І Він пішов знову, помолився, промовивши ті самі слова.
And again he went away and prayed, saying the same words.
А повернувшись, знайшов, що вони знову спали, бо очі їхні стали важкими, — та й не мали що відповісти.
And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy, and they did not know what to answer him.
Він приходить утретє і каже їм: Ви ще спите й відпочиваєте? Досить, прийшла година: і ось, Син Людський видається в руки грішників.
And he came the third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? It is enough; the hour has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
Уставайте, ходімо! Вже підійшов Мій зрадник!
Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand.”
Він ще говорив, як ураз з’явився Юда, один із дванадцятьох, і з ним юрба з мечами та киями, — від первосвящеників, книжників і старших.
Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus
And immediately, while he was still speaking, Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.

And when he came, he went up to him at once and said, “Rabbi!” And he kissed him.
Один із тих, які стояли, вихопив меча і вдарив раба первосвященика й відтяв йому вухо.
Ісус сказав їм у відповідь: Як проти розбійника ви вийшли з мечами та киями, щоб Мене схопити.
And Jesus said to them, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me?
Щодня був Я з вами, навчав у храмі, однак ви не схопили Мене. Але нехай збудеться Писання!
Day after day I was with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. But let the Scriptures be fulfilled.”
А один юнак ішов за Ним, обгорнувшись по нагому в покривало. Вони схопили і його.

And a young man followed him, with nothing but a linen cloth about his body. And they seized him,

А Ісуса повели до первосвященика. Там зійшлися всі первосвященики, старші та книжники.

Петро ж віддалік йшов слідом за Ним — аж у двір первосвященика. І він сів зі слугами, та й грівся біля вогню.
And Peter had followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. And he was sitting with the guards and warming himself at the fire.
А первосвященики і весь синедріон [3] шукали свідчення проти Ісуса, щоб Його вбити, та не знаходили.
Багато хто неправдиво свідчив проти Нього, але ті свідчення не збігалися.
For many bore false witness against him, but their testimony did not agree.
Деякі вставали і лжесвідчили проти Нього так:
And some stood up and bore false witness against him, saying,
Ми чули, як Він говорив, що зруйнує цей рукотворний храм і за три дні збудує інший, нерукотворний!
“We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another, not made with hands.’”
Тоді первосвященик, ставши посередині, запитав Ісуса, кажучи: Не відповідаєш нічого на те, що проти Тебе свідчать?
Але Він мовчав і не відповідав нічого. Знову первосвященик запитав Його і каже Йому: Чи ти є Христос, Син Благословенного?
But he remained silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?”
А Ісус сказав: Я є, і ви побачите Сина Людського, Який сидітиме праворуч Сили та йтиме на хмарах небесних!
And Jesus said, “I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.”
Первосвященик роздер на собі одяг і сказав: Навіщо потрібні нам ще свідки?
And the high priest tore his garments and said, “What further witnesses do we need?
Ви чули хулу. Як ви вважаєте? І всі вони присудили, що Він повинен померти.
You have heard his blasphemy. What is your decision?” And they all condemned him as deserving death.
Деякі почали плювати на Нього, закривати Його обличчя, бити по щоках, ще й приказувати Йому: Пророкуй! І слуги також били Його в обличчя.
And some began to spit on him and to cover his face and to strike him, saying to him, “Prophesy!” And the guards received him with blows.
Петро був унизу на подвір’ї. Прийшла одна зі служниць первосвященика,
Peter Denies Jesus
And as Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came,

and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, “You also were with the Nazarene, Jesus.”
Але він відрікся, кажучи: Я не знаю і не розумію, про що ти говориш! І вийшов геть у переддвір’я. І тут заспівав півень.
Служниця, побачивши його знову, почала говорити присутнім, що він — один з них.
And the servant girl saw him and began again to say to the bystanders, “This man is one of them.”
Він знову відрікся. Невдовзі присутні почали говорити Петрові: Справді, ти з них, бо ти — галилеєць [і мова твоя подібна].
But again he denied it. And after a little while the bystanders again said to Peter, “Certainly you are one of them, for you are a Galilean.”
А він почав зарікатися і клястися, що не знає того Чоловіка, про Якого вони говорять.
But he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, “I do not know this man of whom you speak.”
І тут вдруге заспівав півень. І згадав Петро слова, які йому сказав Ісус: Перш ніж півень двічі заспіває, ти тричі зречешся Мене! І, згадавши, він почав плакати.
