And He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to perform healing.
І сказав Він їм: Нічого не беріть у дорогу: ні палиці, ні торби, ні хліба, ні грошей, ні двох одежин не майте.
And He said to them, “Take nothing for your journey, neither a staff, nor a bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not even have two tunics apiece.
І в який лише дім увійдете, там залишайтеся й звідти відходьте.
“Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that city.
А як хто не прийме вас, то, виходячи з того міста, обтрусіть пил з ваших ніг — на свідчення проти них.
“And as for those who do not receive you, as you go out from that city, shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.”
Розійшовшись, вони ходили по селах, звіщаючи Євангеліє та оздоровлюючи всюди.
Departing, they began going throughout the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.
Ірод, тетрарх, почув про все, що сталося [через Нього], і бентежився, бо дехто казав, ніби це Іван устав із мертвих;
Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was happening; and he was greatly perplexed, because it was said by some that John had risen from the dead,

and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the prophets of old had risen again.
Тоді Ірод сказав: Іванові я відтяв голову; хто ж такий Оцей, про Кого я чую таке? І намагався побачити Його.
Herod said, “I myself had John beheaded; but who is this man about whom I hear such things?” And he kept trying to see Him.
Повернувшись, апостоли розповідали Йому, що вони зробили. Забравши їх, Він усамітнився [у відлюдному місці] біля міста, що зветься Витсаїда.
When the apostles returned, they gave an account to Him of all that they had done. Taking them with Him, He withdrew by Himself to a city called Bethsaida.
Люди, довідавшись, пішли за Ним. І прийнявши їх, Він розповідав їм про Боже Царство й оздоровляв тих, котрі потребували оздоровлення.
But the crowds were aware of this and followed Him; and welcoming them, He began speaking to them about the kingdom of God and curing those who had need of healing.
День уже почав згасати. Дванадцятеро, підійшовши, сказали Йому: Відпусти людей, щоби пішли і розійшлися по довколишніх селах та по хуторах і знайшли їжу, бо ми тут у безлюдному місці!
Five Thousand Fed
Now the day was ending, and the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the crowd away, that they may go into the surrounding villages and countryside and find lodging and get something to eat; for here we are in a desolate place.”
А Він сказав їм: Дайте ви їм їсти! Вони відповіли: Немає в нас нічого, крім п’яти хлібів та двох рибин; хіба підемо та купимо їжу для всього цього народу.
But He said to them, “You give them something to eat!” And they said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless perhaps we go and buy food for all these people.”
Було ж чоловіків десь близько п’яти тисяч. Та Він сказав Своїм учням: Розсадіть їх рядами по п’ятдесят!
(For there were about five thousand men.) And He said to His disciples, “Have them sit down to eat in groups of about fifty each.”
Узявши п’ять хлібів та дві риби, Він звернув погляд до неба, поблагословив їх, поламав і давав учням, щоби поклали перед людьми.
Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed them, and broke them, and kept giving them to the disciples to set before the people.
І вони поїли, і наситилися всі, а із залишених кусків назбирали дванадцять кошиків.
And they all ate and were satisfied; and the broken pieces which they had left over were picked up, twelve baskets full.
І сталося, коли Він молився на самоті й з Ним були учні, Він запитав їх, кажучи: За кого Мене вважають люди?
And it happened that while He was praying alone, the disciples were with Him, and He questioned them, saying, “Who do the people say that I am?”
Вони у відповідь сказали: Деякі — за Івана Хрестителя, інші — за Іллю, а ще інші — за одного з давніх пророків, який воскрес.
They answered and said, “John the Baptist, and others say Elijah; but others, that one of the prophets of old has risen again.”
Він же запитав їх: А ви за кого Мене вважаєте? Петро ж у відповідь сказав: За Христа Божого!
And He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” And Peter answered and said, “The Christ of God.”
Та Він, заборонивши їм, наказав нікому не розповідати цього,
But He warned them and instructed them not to tell this to anyone,
пояснивши, що Син Людський має багато постраждати, і буде відкинений старшими, первосвящениками й книжниками, і буде вбитий, і воскресне третього дня.
saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed and be raised up on the third day.”
А до всіх Він промовив: Коли хто хоче йти за Мною, нехай зречеться самого себе, бере свій хрест щоденно й іде слідом за Мною.
And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.
Бо хто хоче душу свою спасти, той погубить її, а хто погубить душу свою заради Мене, той спасе її.
“For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it.
Адже що з того скористає людина, коли придбає весь світ, а погубить або знищить саму себе?
“For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits himself?
Бо хто посоромиться Мене й Моїх слів, того Людський Син посоромиться, коли прийде у Своїй славі, у славі Свого Отця і святих ангелів.
“For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory, and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.
Запевняю вас, що деякі з присутніх тут не зазнають смерті, доки не побачать Божого Царства!
“But I say to you truthfully, there are some of those standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God.”
Через вісім днів після цих слів Він узяв Петра, Івана і Якова та піднявся на гору помолитися.
The Transfiguration
Some eight days after these sayings, He took along Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray.
І сталося, що під час молитви вигляд Його обличчя змінився, а Його одяг став білим та блискучим.
And while He was praying, the appearance of His face became different, and His clothing became white and gleaming.
І ось, два мужі розмовляли з Ним: були то Мойсей та Ілля,
And behold, two men were talking with Him; and they were Moses and Elijah,
котрі з’явилися у славі й говорили про відхід Його, який мав статися в Єрусалимі.
who, appearing in glory, were speaking of His departure which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.
Петро й інші були зморені сном, а прокинувшись, побачили Його славу та обох мужів, які стояли з Ним.
Now Peter and his companions had been overcome with sleep; but when they were fully awake, they saw His glory and the two men standing with Him.
І сталося, коли відходили ті від Нього, Петро сказав Ісусові: Наставнику, добре нам тут бути! Поставимо три намети: один Тобі, один Мойсеєві, один Іллі! Він не знав, що говорить.
And as these were leaving Him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three tabernacles: one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah” — not realizing what he was saying.
Коли він ще говорив, з’явилася хмара й оповила їх; вони ж злякалися, як ті увійшли в хмару.
While he was saying this, a cloud formed and began to overshadow them; and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.
І почувся голос із хмари, який промовляв: Це Син Мій Вибраний — Його слухайтеся!
Then a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My Son, My Chosen One; listen to Him!”
Коли залунав цей голос, Ісус залишився Сам. А вони мовчали й нікому в ті дні нічого не розповідали про те, що побачили.
And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent, and reported to no one in those days any of the things which they had seen.
Сталося наступного дня, як зійшли вони з гори, зустрів Його великий натовп.
On the next day, when they came down from the mountain, a large crowd met Him.
І ось чоловік з натовпу закричав, гукаючи: Учителю, благаю Тебе зглянутись на мого сина, бо одинак він у мене!
And a man from the crowd shouted, saying, “Teacher, I beg You to look at my son, for he is my only boy,
А ото дух хапає його, він раптово кричить, кидається з піною. І, вимучивши його, насилу відходить від нього;
and a spirit seizes him, and he suddenly screams, and it throws him into a convulsion with foaming at the mouth; and only with difficulty does it leave him, mauling him as it leaves.
благав я учнів Твоїх, щоб вигнали його, але не змогли!
“I begged Your disciples to cast it out, and they could not.”
У відповідь Ісус сказав: О, роде невірний і розбещений, доки Я буду з вами й терпітиму вас? Приведи сюди свого сина!
And Jesus answered and said, “You unbelieving and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you and put up with you? Bring your son here.”
Коли він ще йшов, кинув його і затряс ним біс. Та Ісус пригрозив нечистому духові, оздоровив дитину і віддав батькові.
While he was still approaching, the demon slammed him to the ground and threw him into a convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy and gave him back to his father.
І всі дивувалися з величі Божої.
Ісус говорить про Свої страждання
Коли ще всі захоплювалися тим, що робив Ісус, Він сказав Своїм учням:

And they were all amazed at the greatness of God.
But while everyone was marveling at all that He was doing, He said to His disciples,

Вкладіть до своїх вух такі слова: Людський Син має бути переданий у руки людей!
“Let these words sink into your ears; for the Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.”
Вони не розуміли цього, бо були закритими ці слова, щоби збагнути їх. Та боялися запитати Його про ці слова.
But they did not understand this statement, and it was concealed from them so that they would not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask Him about this statement.
І спало їм на думку: Хто з них був би найбільший?
The Test of Greatness
An argument started among them as to which of them might be the greatest.
А Ісус, знаючи задум їхнього серця, взяв дитину, поставив її коло Себе
But Jesus, knowing what they were thinking in their heart, took a child and stood him by His side,
і сказав їм: Хто прийме цю дитину в Моє Ім’я, той і Мене приймає, а як хто Мене прийме, той приймає Того, Хто Мене послав, бо хто найменший між вами, той великий!
and said to them, “Whoever receives this child in My name receives Me, and whoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me; for the one who is least among all of you, this is the one who is great.”
У відповідь Іван сказав: Наставнику, бачили ми одного, хто Твоїм Ім’ям виганяв бісів, а ми забороняли йому, бо він не ходить з нами.
John answered and said, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name; and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow along with us.”
Та Ісус сказав йому: Не забороняйте, бо хто не проти вас, той за вас!
But Jesus said to him, “Do not hinder him; for he who is not against you is for you.”
І сталося, що коли наближалися дні Його відходу, Він твердо постановив іти в Єрусалим.
When the days were approaching for His ascension, He was determined to go to Jerusalem;
І Він послав вісників перед Собою. І, вирушивши, вони прибули до самарійського села, щоби приготувати Йому ночівлю.
and He sent messengers on ahead of Him, and they went and entered a village of the Samaritans to make arrangements for Him.
А ті не прийняли Його, бо Він ішов до Єрусалима.
But they did not receive Him, because He was traveling toward Jerusalem.
І, побачивши це, учні Яків та Іван сказали: Господи, хочеш, ми скажемо, щоб вогонь зійшов з неба і знищив їх [так, як зробив Ілля]?
When His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?”
Та, повернувшись до них, Він заборонив їм [і сказав: Не знаєте, якого ви духа, адже Людський Син прийшов не губити людські душі, а спасати їх].
But He turned and rebuked them, [and said, “You do not know what kind of spirit you are of;
І Він пішов до іншого села.
for the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them.”] And they went on to another village.
А в дорозі, коли вони йшли, один сказав Йому: Я піду за Тобою, куди тільки Ти підеш, [Господи]!
Exacting Discipleship
As they were going along the road, someone said to Him, “I will follow You wherever You go.”
Та Ісус відповів йому: Лисиці мають нори, а птахи небесні — гнізда; Син же Людський не має де й голови прихилити.
And Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”
До іншого Він промовив: Іди за мною. А той відповів: Господи, дозволь мені спочатку піти й поховати свого батька.
And He said to another, “Follow Me.” But he said, “Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father.”
Та Він сказав йому: Залиши мертвим ховати своїх мерців, а ти йди та сповіщай Боже Царство!
But He said to him, “Allow the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim everywhere the kingdom of God.”
А інший сказав: Я піду за Тобою, Господи, але спочатку дозволь мені попрощатися з домашніми.
Another also said, “I will follow You, Lord; but first permit me to say good-bye to those at home.”
