Царю Агрипо, вважаю себе щасливим, що сьогодні перед тобою можу дати відповідь на все те, у чому звинувачують мене юдеї;
I think myself happy, king Agrippa, because I shall answer for myself this day before thee touching all the things whereof I am accused of the Jews:
особливо тому, що ти обізнаний з усіма юдейськими звичаями та питаннями. Тому прошу тебе терпеливо вислухати мене.
Especially because I know thee to be expert in all customs and questions which are among the Jews: wherefore I beseech thee to hear me patiently.
Отже, життя моє, яке змалку, із самого початку, пройшло між моїм народом у Єрусалимі, знають усі юдеї.
My manner of life from my youth, which was at the first among mine own nation at Jerusalem, know all the Jews;
Вони знають мене здавна: аби тільки хотіли посвідчити, що я жив фарисеєм — згідно з дуже строгою течією нашої віри.
Which knew me from the beginning, if they would testify, that after the most straitest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee.
А тепер я стою, і мене судять за надію обітниці, яку Бог дав нашим батькам,
And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made of God unto our fathers:
до якої дванадцять наших поколінь, служачи безнастанно ніч і день, надіються дійти, — за цю надію, царю, я звинувачений юдеями!
Unto which promise our twelve tribes, instantly serving God day and night, hope to come. For which hope's sake, king Agrippa, I am accused of the Jews.
Чи вважаєте ви неймовірним, що Бог воскрешає мертвих?
Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you, that God should raise the dead?
Правда, я вважав, що мені належить багато зробити проти Імені Ісуса Назарянина.
I verily thought with myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth.
Це я і зробив у Єрусалимі: багатьох зі святих я замкнув у в’язниці, одержавши владу від первосвящеників. Коли ж їх убивали, я давав згоду.
Which thing I also did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against them.
І дуже часто, караючи їх по всіх синагогах, примушував їх хулити. А сильно лютуючи на них, переслідував їх — навіть по далеких містах.
And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto strange cities.
Ідучи в Дамаск у цих справах з уповноваженнями і наказом від первосвящеників,
Whereupon as I went to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests,
опівдні в дорозі побачив я, царю, світло з неба, яскравіше від сонячного світла, яке осяяло мене та тих, хто йшов зі мною.
At midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me.
Коли ми всі попадали на землю, я почув голос, який говорив до мене [й промовляв] єврейською мовою: Савле, Савле, чого Мене переслідуєш? Тяжко тобі бити ногою колючку!
And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
Я запитав: Хто Ти, Господи? Господь відповів: Я — Ісус, Якого ти переслідуєш.
And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.
Але підведися і стань на свої ноги, бо на те Я і з’явився тобі, щоби зробити тебе служителем і свідком того, що ти бачив, і того, що Я покажу тобі,
But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee;
визволяючи тебе від твого народу та від язичників, до яких Я тебе посилаю, —
Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee,
відкрити їм очі, щоб вони навернулися від темряви до світла та від влади сатани до Бога, щоб одержали вони прощення гріхів і спадок між освяченими вірою в Мене.
To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
Тому, царю Агрипо, я не став чинити опір небесному видінню,
Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision:
а проповідував: спочатку тим, які були в Дамаску, а потім тим, котрі в Єрусалимі, у кожній юдейській околиці, та язичникам, — щоби покаялися і навернулися до Бога, щоби чинили діла, гідні покаяння.
But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.
Через це юдеї, схопивши мене в храмі, намагалися розірвати.
For these causes the Jews caught me in the temple, and went about to kill me.
Та одержавши допомогу від Бога, аж до цього дня стою, щоб свідчити малому й великому, не розповідаючи нічого, крім того, що говорили пророки і Мойсей, що має статися:
Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come:
що має постраждати Христос, що Він, перший воскреслий з мертвих, має проповідувати світло Своєму народові та язичникам.
That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.
Коли він отак захищався, Фест гучним голосом сказав: Безумствуєш ти, Павле! Велика вченість приводить тебе до божевілля!
Festus Interrupts Paul's Defense
And as he thus spake for himself, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad.

Я не божевільний, високоповажний Фесте, — сказав Павло, — а звіщаю правдиві й розумні слова.
But he said, I am not mad, most noble Festus; but speak forth the words of truth and soberness.
Адже цар, до якого я сміливо говорю, знає про це, бо я не вірю, щоби щось із цього було скрите від нього, адже це не відбулося десь у закутку!
For the king knoweth of these things, before whom also I speak freely: for I am persuaded that none of these things are hidden from him; for this thing was not done in a corner.
О, царю Агрипо! Чи віриш, пророкам? Знаю, що віриш!
King Agrippa, believest thou the prophets? I know that thou believest.
Агрипа ж Павлові: Ще трохи і мене переконаєш стати християнином!
Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.
А Павло: Чи трохи, чи багато, але благав би я Бога, щоб не тільки ти, а й усі, хто сьогодні мене чує, стали такими, як я, за винятком оцих кайданів.
And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds.
[І як сказав це йому], підвівся цар, і намісник, і Верніка, і ті, які сиділи з ними,
And when he had thus spoken, the king rose up, and the governor, and Bernice, and they that sat with them:
і, відійшовши, говорили одне одному, зауважуючи, що нічого, вартого смерті або кайданів, цей чоловік не робить.
And when they were gone aside, they talked between themselves, saying, This man doeth nothing worthy of death or of bonds.
