Einer von ihnen ging auf das Feld hinaus, um Malven zu holen. Dabei fand er ein wildes Rankengewächs und pflückte davon so viele Früchte, wie sein Gewand fassen konnte. Dann kam er zurück und schnitt sie in den Kochtopf hinein, da man sie nicht kannte.

Da ging einer aufs Feld, daß er Kraut läse, und fand wilde Ranken und las davon Koloquinten sein Kleid voll; und da er kam, schnitt er’s in den Topf zum Gemüse, denn sie kannten’s nicht.

Da ging einer der jungen Männer hinaus, um auf dem Feld nach etwas Essbarem zu suchen. Er fand ein wildes Rankengewächs mit Früchten. Davon pflückte er so viele, wie er in seinem Mantel tragen konnte, und eilte damit zurück. Er schnitt die Früchte in Stücke und warf sie in den Topf, obwohl keiner von ihnen das Gewächs kannte.
