Eine von den Frauen der Prophetenjünger wandte sich laut rufend an Elischa: Mein Mann, dein Knecht, ist gestorben. Du weißt, dass dein Knecht gottesfürchtig war. Nun kommt der Gläubiger, um sich meine beiden Söhne als Sklaven zu nehmen.
The Widow’s Oil
Now a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the LORD; and the creditor has come to take my two children to be his slaves.”

Elischa fragte sie: Was kann ich für dich tun? Sag mir: Was hast du im Haus? Sie antwortete: Deine Magd hat nichts im Haus als einen Krug Öl.
Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.”
Da sagte er: Geh und erbitte dir auf der Gasse von allen deinen Nachbarn leere Gefäße, aber nicht zu wenige!
Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels at large for yourself from all your neighbors, even empty vessels; do not get a few.
Dann geh heim, verschließ die Tür hinter dir und deinen Söhnen, gieß Öl in alle diese Gefäße und stell die gefüllten beiseite!
“And you shall go in and shut the door behind you and your sons, and pour out into all these vessels, and you shall set aside what is full.”
Sie ging von ihm weg und verschloss die Tür hinter sich und ihren Söhnen. Diese reichten ihr die Gefäße hin und sie füllte ein.
So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons; they were bringing the vessels to her and she poured.
Als alle Gefäße voll waren, sagte sie zu ihrem Sohn: Bring mir noch ein Gefäß! Er antwortete: Es ist keines mehr da. Da floss das Öl nicht mehr weiter.
When the vessels were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.” And he said to her, “There is not one vessel more.” And the oil stopped.
Sie aber kam und erzählte es dem Gottesmann. Dieser befahl ihr: Geh, verkauf das Öl und bezahl deine Schuld! Von dem, was übrig bleibt, magst du mit deinen Söhnen leben.
Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt, and you and your sons can live on the rest.”
Eines Tages ging Elischa nach Schunem. Dort lebte eine vornehme Frau, die ihn dringend bat, bei ihr zu essen. Seither kehrte er zum Essen bei ihr ein, sooft er vorbeikam.
The Shunammite Woman
Now there came a day when Elisha passed over to Shunem, where there was a prominent woman, and she persuaded him to eat food. And so it was, as often as he passed by, he turned in there to eat food.
Sie aber sagte zu ihrem Mann: Ich weiß, dass dieser Mann, der ständig bei uns vorbeikommt, ein heiliger Gottesmann ist.
She said to her husband, “Behold now, I perceive that this is a holy man of God passing by us continually.
Wir wollen ein kleines, gemauertes Obergemach herrichten und dort ein Bett, einen Tisch, einen Stuhl und einen Leuchter für ihn bereitstellen. Wenn er dann zu uns kommt, kann er sich dorthin zurückziehen.
“Please, let us make a little walled upper chamber and let us set a bed for him there, and a table and a chair and a lampstand; and it shall be, when he comes to us, that he can turn in there.”
Als Elischa eines Tages wieder hinkam, ging er in das Obergemach, um dort zu schlafen.
One day he came there and turned in to the upper chamber and rested.
Dann befahl er seinem Diener Gehasi: Ruf diese Schunemiterin! Er rief sie, und als sie vor ihm stand,
Then he said to Gehazi his servant, “Call this Shunammite.” And when he had called her, she stood before him.
befahl er dem Diener: Sag zu ihr: Du hast dir so viel Mühe um uns gemacht. Was können wir für dich tun? Sollen wir beim König oder beim Obersten des Heeres ein Wort für dich einlegen? Doch sie entgegnete: Ich wohne inmitten meiner Verwandten.
He said to him, “Say now to her, ‘Behold, you have been careful for us with all this care; what can I do for you? Would you be spoken for to the king or to the captain of the army?’” And she answered, “I live among my own people.”
Und als er weiter fragte, was man für sie tun könne, sagte Gehasi: Nun, sie hat keinen Sohn und ihr Mann ist alt.
So he said, “What then is to be done for her?” And Gehazi answered, “Truly she has no son and her husband is old.”
Da befahl er: Ruf sie herein! Er rief sie und sie blieb in der Tür stehen.
He said, “Call her.” When he had called her, she stood in the doorway.
Darauf versicherte ihr Elischa: Im nächsten Jahr um diese Zeit wirst du einen Sohn liebkosen. Sie aber entgegnete: Ach nein, Herr, Mann Gottes, täusche doch deiner Magd nichts vor!
Then he said, “At this season next year you will embrace a son.” And she said, “No, my lord, O man of God, do not lie to your maidservant.”
Doch die Frau wurde schwanger und im nächsten Jahr, um die Zeit, die Elischa genannt hatte, gebar sie einen Sohn.
The woman conceived and bore a son at that season the next year, as Elisha had said to her.
Als das Kind herangewachsen war, ging es eines Tages zu seinem Vater hinaus zu den Schnittern.
The Shunammite’s Son
When the child was grown, the day came that he went out to his father to the reapers.
Dort klagte es ihm: Mein Kopf, mein Kopf! Der Vater befahl seinem Knecht: Trag das Kind heim zu seiner Mutter!
He said to his father, “My head, my head.” And he said to his servant, “Carry him to his mother.”
Der Knecht nahm es und brachte es zu ihr. Es saß noch bis zum Mittag auf ihren Knien; dann starb es.
When he had taken him and brought him to his mother, he sat on her lap until noon, and then died.
Sie stieg nun in das obere Gemach hinauf, legte das Kind auf das Bett des Gottesmannes und schloss die Tür hinter ihm ab. Dann verließ sie das Haus,
She went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door behind him and went out.
rief ihren Mann und bat ihn: Schick mir einen von den Knechten und einen Esel! Ich will zum Gottesmann eilen und komme bald zurück.
Then she called to her husband and said, “Please send me one of the servants and one of the donkeys, that I may run to the man of God and return.”
Er wandte ein: Warum gehst du heute zu ihm? Es ist doch nicht Neumond und nicht Sabbat. Doch sie sagte nur: Friede mit dir!,
He said, “Why will you go to him today? It is neither new moon nor sabbath.” And she said, “It will be well.”
sattelte den Esel und befahl dem Knecht: Treib tüchtig an und halte mich beim Reiten nicht auf, es sei denn, dass ich es dir sage.
Then she saddled a donkey and said to her servant, “Drive and go forward; do not slow down the pace for me unless I tell you.”
So reiste sie ab und kam zum Gottesmann auf den Karmel. Als er sie von ferne sah, sagte er zu seinem Diener Gehasi: Da kommt die Schunemiterin.
So she went and came to the man of God to Mount Carmel.
When the man of God saw her at a distance, he said to Gehazi his servant, “Behold, there is the Shunammite.

Lauf ihr entgegen und frag sie: Geht es dir gut? Geht es auch deinem Mann und dem Kind gut? Sie antwortete: Es geht gut.
“Please run now to meet her and say to her, ‘Is it well with you? Is it well with your husband? Is it well with the child?’” And she answered, “It is well.”
Sobald sie aber zum Gottesmann auf den Berg kam, umfasste sie seine Füße. Gehasi trat hinzu, um sie wegzudrängen; aber der Gottesmann wehrte ab: Lass sie; denn ihre Seele ist betrübt. Doch der HERR hat mir den Grund verborgen und mir nicht mitgeteilt.
When she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught hold of his feet. And Gehazi came near to push her away; but the man of God said, “Let her alone, for her soul is troubled within her; and the LORD has hidden it from me and has not told me.”
Darauf sagte sie: Habe ich denn meinen Herrn um einen Sohn gebeten? Habe ich nicht gesagt: Mach mir keine falschen Hoffnungen?
Then she said, “Did I ask for a son from my lord? Did I not say, ‘Do not deceive me’?”
Elischa befahl nun Gehasi: Gürte dich, nimm meinen Stab in die Hand und mach dich auf den Weg! Wenn du jemand begegnest, so grüß ihn nicht; und wenn dich jemand grüßt, so antworte ihm nicht! Leg meinen Stab auf das Gesicht des Kindes!
Then he said to Gehazi, “Gird up your loins and take my staff in your hand, and go your way; if you meet any man, do not salute him, and if anyone salutes you, do not answer him; and lay my staff on the lad’s face.”
Aber die Mutter des Kindes sagte: So wahr der HERR lebt und so wahr du lebst: Ich lasse nicht von dir ab. Da stand er auf und folgte ihr.
The mother of the lad said, “As the LORD lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” And he arose and followed her.
Gehasi war vorausgeeilt und hatte den Stab auf das Gesicht des Kindes gelegt; doch es kam kein Laut und kein Lebenszeichen. Daher lief er zum Gottesmann zurück und berichtete: Das Kind ist nicht aufgewacht.
Then Gehazi passed on before them and laid the staff on the lad’s face, but there was no sound or response. So he returned to meet him and told him, “The lad has not awakened.”
Als Elischa in das Haus kam, lag das Kind tot auf seinem Bett.
When Elisha came into the house, behold the lad was dead and laid on his bed.
Er ging in das Gemach, schloss die Tür hinter sich und dem Kind und betete zum HERRN.
So he entered and shut the door behind them both and prayed to the LORD.
Dann trat er an das Bett und warf sich über das Kind; er legte seinen Mund auf dessen Mund, seine Augen auf dessen Augen, seine Hände auf dessen Hände. Als er sich so über das Kind hinstreckte, kam Wärme in dessen Leib.
And he went up and lay on the child, and put his mouth on his mouth and his eyes on his eyes and his hands on his hands, and he stretched himself on him; and the flesh of the child became warm.
Dann stand er auf, ging im Haus einmal hin und her, trat wieder an das Bett und warf sich über das Kind. Da nieste es siebenmal und öffnete die Augen.
Then he returned and walked in the house once back and forth, and went up and stretched himself on him; and the lad sneezed seven times and the lad opened his eyes.
Nun rief Elischa seinen Diener Gehasi und befahl ihm, die Schunemiterin zu rufen. Er rief sie, und als sie kam, sagte der Gottesmann zu ihr: Nimm deinen Sohn!
He called Gehazi and said, “Call this Shunammite.” So he called her. And when she came in to him, he said, “Take up your son.”
Sie trat hinzu, fiel Elischa zu Füßen und verneigte sich bis zur Erde. Dann nahm sie ihren Sohn und ging hinaus.
Then she went in and fell at his feet and bowed herself to the ground, and she took up her son and went out.
Elischa kehrte nach Gilgal zurück. Im Land herrschte damals eine Hungersnot. Als die Prophetenjünger vor ihm saßen, befahl er seinem Diener: Setz den großen Topf auf und koch ein Gericht für die Prophetenjünger!
The Poisonous Stew
When Elisha returned to Gilgal, there was a famine in the land. As the sons of the prophets were sitting before him, he said to his servant, “Put on the large pot and boil stew for the sons of the prophets.”
Einer von ihnen ging auf das Feld hinaus, um Malven zu holen. Dabei fand er ein wildes Rankengewächs und pflückte davon so viele Früchte, wie sein Gewand fassen konnte. Dann kam er zurück und schnitt sie in den Kochtopf hinein, da man sie nicht kannte.
Then one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine and gathered from it his lap full of wild gourds, and came and sliced them into the pot of stew, for they did not know what they were.
Als man sie aber den Männern zum Essen vorsetzte und sie von der Speise kosteten, schrien sie laut und riefen: Der Tod ist im Topf, Mann Gottes. Sie konnten nichts essen.
So they poured it out for the men to eat. And as they were eating of the stew, they cried out and said, “O man of God, there is death in the pot.” And they were unable to eat.
Doch er befahl: Bringt mir etwas Mehl! Er streute das Mehl in den Topf und sagte: Setzt es nun den Leuten zum Essen vor! Jetzt war nichts Schädliches mehr im Topf.
But he said, “Now bring meal.” He threw it into the pot and said, “Pour it out for the people that they may eat.” Then there was no harm in the pot.
Einmal kam ein Mann von Baal-Schalischa und brachte dem Gottesmann Brot von Erstlingsfrüchten, zwanzig Gerstenbrote und frische Körner in einem Beutel. Elischa sagte: Gib es den Leuten zu essen!
Now a man came from Baal-shalishah, and brought the man of God bread of the first fruits, twenty loaves of barley and fresh ears of grain in his sack. And he said, “Give them to the people that they may eat.”
Doch sein Diener sagte: Wie soll ich das hundert Männern vorsetzen? Elischa aber sagte: Gib es den Leuten zu essen! Denn so spricht der HERR: Man wird essen und noch übrig lassen.
His attendant said, “What, will I set this before a hundred men?” But he said, “Give them to the people that they may eat, for thus says the LORD, ‘They shall eat and have some left over.’”
