Darauf traten einige von den Häuptern der Efraimiter, nämlich Asarja, der Sohn Johanans, Berechja, der Sohn Meschillemots, Jehiskija, der Sohn Schallums, und Amasa, der Sohn Hadlais, zu den Heimkehrern vom Feldzug hin,

redeten mit ihnen und sagten: Bringt die Gefangenen nicht hierher! Schon liegt eine Schuld vor dem HERRN auf uns und ihr wollt unsere Sünde und Schuld noch vermehren. Ist doch unsere Schuld schon groß genug und glühender Zorn lastet auf Israel.
and said to them, “You shall not bring the captives in here, for you propose to bring upon us guilt against the Lord in addition to our present sins and guilt. For our guilt is already great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel.”
Daraufhin gaben die bewaffneten Krieger in Gegenwart der Obersten und der ganzen Versammlung die Gefangenen und die Beute frei.
So the armed men left the captives and the spoil before the princes and all the assembly.
Männer, die namentlich dazu bestimmt waren, gingen hin und nahmen sich der Gefangenen an. Sie bekleideten alle, die nackt waren, aus der Beute und versahen sie mit Gewändern und Schuhen. Sie gaben ihnen zu essen und zu trinken, salbten sie und führten alle Schwachen auf Eseln weiter. So brachten sie die Gefangenen in die Palmenstadt Jericho in die Nähe ihrer Stammesbrüder. Sie selbst kehrten nach Samaria zurück.
And the men who have been mentioned by name rose and took the captives, and with the spoil they clothed all who were naked among them. They clothed them, gave them sandals, provided them with food and drink, and anointed them, and carrying all the feeble among them on donkeys, they brought them to their kinsfolk at Jericho, the city of palm trees. Then they returned to Samaria.

denn der HERR demütigte Juda wegen Ahas’, des Königs von Israel, der die Zügellosigkeit in Juda förderte und gegen den HERRN treulos war.
Tiglat-Pileser, der König von Assur, zog gegen ihn; brachte ihn in Bedrängnis, überwältigte ihn aber nicht.
Ahas musste den Tempel, den königlichen Palast und die führenden Männer berauben und alles dem König von Assur geben, fand jedoch keine Hilfe.
For Ahaz took a portion from the house of the Lord and the house of the king and of the princes, and gave tribute to the king of Assyria, but it did not help him.
Selbst in der Zeit der Bedrängnis setzte König Ahas seine Treulosigkeit gegen den HERRN fort.

For he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus that had defeated him and said, “Because the gods of the kings of Syria helped them, I will sacrifice to them that they may help me.” But they were the ruin of him and of all Israel.
Ahas ließ die Geräte des Hauses Gottes zusammenholen und zerschlagen, schloss die Tore des Hauses des HERRN und errichtete Altäre an allen Ecken Jerusalems.
And Ahaz gathered together the vessels of the house of God and cut in pieces the vessels of the house of God, and he shut up the doors of the house of the Lord, and he made himself altars in every corner of Jerusalem.
In jeder einzelnen Stadt Judas baute er Kulthöhen, um anderen Göttern zu opfern. So erzürnte er den HERRN, den Gott seiner Väter.
In every city of Judah he made high places to make offerings to other gods, provoking to anger the Lord, the God of his fathers.
Seine übrige Geschichte und alle seine Unternehmungen, die früheren und die späteren, sind aufgezeichnet im Buch der Könige von Juda und Israel.
Now the rest of his acts and all his ways, from first to last, behold, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.
Ahas entschlief zu seinen Vätern und man begrub ihn in Jerusalem, innerhalb der Stadt, legte ihn also nicht in die Gräber der Könige von Israel. Sein Sohn Hiskija wurde König an seiner Stelle.
And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, in Jerusalem, for they did not bring him into the tombs of the kings of Israel. And Hezekiah his son reigned in his place.
