Das ganze Volk versammelte sich geschlossen auf dem Platz vor dem Wassertor und bat den Schriftgelehrten Esra, das Buch mit der Weisung des Mose zu holen, die der HERR den Israeliten geboten hat.
all the people came together as one in the square before the Water Gate. They told Ezra the teacher of the Law to bring out the Book of the Law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded for Israel.
Am ersten Tag des siebten Monats brachte der Priester Esra die Weisung vor die Versammlung, Männer und Frauen und überhaupt alle, die schon mit Verstand zuhören konnten.
So on the first day of the seventh month Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly, which was made up of men and women and all who were able to understand.
Vom frühen Morgen bis zum Mittag las Esra auf dem Platz vor dem Wassertor den Männern und Frauen und denen, die es verstehen konnten, daraus vor. Das ganze Volk lauschte auf das Buch der Weisung.
He read it aloud from daybreak till noon as he faced the square before the Water Gate in the presence of the men, women and others who could understand. And all the people listened attentively to the Book of the Law.
Der Schriftgelehrte Esra stand auf einer Kanzel aus Holz, die man eigens dafür errichtet hatte. Neben ihm standen rechts Mattitja, Schema, Anaja, Urija, Hilkija und Maaseja und links Pedaja, Mischaël, Malkija, Haschum, Haschbaddana, Secharja und Meschullam.
Ezra the teacher of the Law stood on a high wooden platform built for the occasion. Beside him on his right stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah and Maaseiah; and on his left were Pedaiah, Mishael, Malkijah, Hashum, Hashbaddanah, Zechariah and Meshullam.
Esra öffnete das Buch vor aller Augen; denn er stand höher als das versammelte Volk. Als er das Buch aufschlug, erhoben sich alle.
Ezra opened the book. All the people could see him because he was standing above them; and as he opened it, the people all stood up.
Dann pries Esra den HERRN, den großen Gott; darauf antworteten alle mit erhobenen Händen: Amen, amen! Sie verneigten sich, warfen sich vor dem HERRN nieder, mit dem Gesicht zur Erde.
Ezra praised the Lord, the great God; and all the people lifted their hands and responded, “Amen! Amen!” Then they bowed down and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground.
Jeschua, Bani, Scherebja, Jamin, Akkub, Schabbetai, Hodija, Maaseja, Kelita, Asarja, Josabad, Hanan und Pelaja, die Leviten, erklärten dem Volk die Weisung; die Leute blieben auf ihrem Platz.
The Levites — Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan and Pelaiah — instructed the people in the Law while the people were standing there.
Man las aus dem Buch, der Weisung Gottes, in Abschnitten vor und gab dazu Erklärungen, sodass die Leute das Vorgelesene verstehen konnten.
Nehemia, das ist Hattirschata, der Priester und Schriftgelehrte Esra und die Leviten, die das Volk unterwiesen, sagten dann zum ganzen Volk: Heute ist ein heiliger Tag zu Ehren des HERRN, eures Gottes. Seid nicht traurig und weint nicht! Alle Leute weinten nämlich, als sie die Worte der Weisung hörten.
Then Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and teacher of the Law, and the Levites who were instructing the people said to them all, “This day is holy to the Lord your God. Do not mourn or weep.” For all the people had been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law.
Dann sagte er zu ihnen: Nun geht, haltet ein festliches Mahl und trinkt süßen Wein! Schickt auch denen etwas, die selbst nichts haben; denn heute ist ein heiliger Tag zur Ehre unseres Herrn. Macht euch keine Sorgen; denn die Freude am HERRN ist eure Stärke.
Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
Auch die Leviten beruhigten das ganze Volk und sagten: Seid still, denn dieser Tag ist heilig. Macht euch keine Sorgen!
The Levites calmed all the people, saying, “Be still, for this is a holy day. Do not grieve.”
Da gingen alle Leute weg, um zu essen und zu trinken und auch andern davon zu geben und um ein großes Freudenfest zu begehen; denn sie hatten die Worte verstanden, die man ihnen verkündet hatte.
Then all the people went away to eat and drink, to send portions of food and to celebrate with great joy, because they now understood the words that had been made known to them.
Am zweiten Tag versammelten sich die Familienoberhäupter des ganzen Volkes sowie die Priester und Leviten bei dem Schriftgelehrten Esra, um die Worte der Weisung weiter kennenzulernen.
On the second day of the month, the heads of all the families, along with the priests and the Levites, gathered around Ezra the teacher to give attention to the words of the Law.
Da fanden sie in der Weisung, die der HERR durch Mose geboten hat, die Stelle, an der es heißt: Die Israeliten sollen während des Festes im siebten Monat in Laubhütten wohnen.
They found written in the Law, which the Lord had commanded through Moses, that the Israelites were to live in temporary shelters during the festival of the seventh month
Wie man sie unterrichtet hatte, ließen sie nun in all ihren Städten und in Jerusalem ausrufen: Geht in die Berge und holt Zweige von veredelten und von wilden Ölbäumen, Zweige von Myrten, Palmen und Laubbäumen zum Bau von Laubhütten, wie es vorgeschrieben ist!
Da ging das Volk hinaus, holte sie und baute sich Laubhütten, der eine auf seinem flachen Dach, andere in ihren Höfen, in den Vorhöfen des Gotteshauses, auf dem Platz am Wassertor und auf dem Platz am Efraimtor.
So the people went out and brought back branches and built themselves temporary shelters on their own roofs, in their courtyards, in the courts of the house of God and in the square by the Water Gate and the one by the Gate of Ephraim.
Die ganze Versammlung, alle, die aus der Gefangenschaft heimgekehrt waren, bauten Laubhütten und wohnten darin. So hatten die Israeliten es nicht mehr gehalten seit den Tagen Josuas, des Sohnes Nuns, bis zu diesem Tag und die Freude war überaus groß.
The whole company that had returned from exile built temporary shelters and lived in them. From the days of Joshua son of Nun until that day, the Israelites had not celebrated it like this. And their joy was very great.
Jeden Tag las Esra aus dem Buch der Weisung Gottes vor, vom ersten Tag bis zum letzten. So feierte man das Fest sieben Tage lang; am achten Tag war, wie vorgeschrieben, die Festversammlung.
Day after day, from the first day to the last, Ezra read from the Book of the Law of God. They celebrated the festival for seven days, and on the eighth day, in accordance with the regulation, there was an assembly.
