Sie waren von Refidim aufgebrochen und kamen in die Wüste Sinai. Sie schlugen in der Wüste das Lager auf. Dort lagerte Israel gegenüber dem Berg.
When they set out from Rephidim, they came to the wilderness of Sinai and camped in the wilderness; and there Israel camped in front of the mountain.
Mose stieg zu Gott hinauf. Da rief ihm der HERR vom Berg her zu: Das sollst du dem Haus Jakob sagen und den Israeliten verkünden:
Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob and tell the sons of Israel:
Ihr habt gesehen, was ich den Ägyptern angetan habe, wie ich euch auf Adlerflügeln getragen und zu mir gebracht habe.
‘You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to Myself.
Jetzt aber, wenn ihr auf meine Stimme hört und meinen Bund haltet, werdet ihr unter allen Völkern mein besonderes Eigentum sein. Mir gehört die ganze Erde,
‘Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine;
ihr aber sollt mir als ein Königreich von Priestern und als ein heiliges Volk gehören. Das sind die Worte, die du den Israeliten mitteilen sollst.
and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel.”
Mose ging und rief die Ältesten des Volkes zusammen. Er legte ihnen alles vor, was der HERR ihm aufgetragen hatte.
So Moses came and called the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which the LORD had commanded him.
Das ganze Volk antwortete einstimmig und erklärte: Alles, was der HERR gesagt hat, wollen wir tun. Mose überbrachte dem HERRN die Antwort des Volkes.
All the people answered together and said, “All that the LORD has spoken we will do!” And Moses brought back the words of the people to the LORD.
Der HERR sprach zu Mose: Ich werde zu dir in einer dichten Wolke kommen; das Volk soll es hören, wenn ich mit dir rede, damit sie auch dir für immer vertrauen. Da berichtete Mose dem HERRN, was das Volk gesagt hatte.
The LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I will come to you in a thick cloud, so that the people may hear when I speak with you and may also believe in you forever.” Then Moses told the words of the people to the LORD.
Der HERR sprach zu Mose: Geh zum Volk! Heilige sie heute und morgen! Sie sollen ihre Kleider waschen
The LORD also said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments;
und sich für den dritten Tag bereithalten. Am dritten Tag nämlich wird der HERR vor den Augen des ganzen Volkes auf den Berg Sinai herabsteigen.
and let them be ready for the third day, for on the third day the LORD will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.
Zieh um das Volk eine Grenze und sag: Hütet euch, auf den Berg zu steigen oder auch nur seinen Fuß zu berühren! Jeder, der den Berg berührt, hat den Tod verdient.
“You shall set bounds for the people all around, saying, ‘Beware that you do not go up on the mountain or touch the border of it; whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death.
Keine Hand soll den Berg berühren. Wer es aber tut, soll gesteinigt oder mit Pfeilen erschossen werden; sei es Tier oder Mensch, es darf nicht am Leben bleiben. Erst wenn das Horn ertönt, dürfen sie auf den Berg steigen.
‘No hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot through; whether beast or man, he shall not live.’ When the ram’s horn sounds a long blast, they shall come up to the mountain.”
Mose stieg vom Berg zum Volk hinunter und heiligte das Volk. Dann wuschen sie ihre Kleider.
So Moses went down from the mountain to the people and consecrated the people, and they washed their garments.
Er sagte zum Volk: Haltet euch für den dritten Tag bereit! Berührt keine Frau!
He said to the people, “Be ready for the third day; do not go near a woman.”
Am dritten Tag, im Morgengrauen, begann es zu donnern und zu blitzen. Schwere Wolken lagen über dem Berg und gewaltiger Hörnerschall erklang. Das ganze Volk im Lager begann zu zittern.
So it came about on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunder and lightning flashes and a thick cloud upon the mountain and a very loud trumpet sound, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled.
Mose führte das Volk aus dem Lager hinaus Gott entgegen. Unten am Berg blieben sie stehen.
And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain.
Der ganze Sinai war in Rauch gehüllt, denn der HERR war im Feuer auf ihn herabgestiegen. Der Rauch stieg vom Berg auf wie Rauch aus einem Schmelzofen. Der ganze Berg bebte gewaltig
The LORD Visits Sinai
Now Mount Sinai was all in smoke because the LORD descended upon it in fire; and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked violently.
und der Hörnerschall wurde immer lauter. Mose redete und Gott antwortete ihm mit verstehbarer Stimme.
When the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke and God answered him with thunder.
Der HERR war auf den Sinai, auf den Gipfel des Berges, herabgestiegen. Er hatte Mose zu sich auf den Gipfel des Berges gerufen und Mose war hinaufgestiegen.
The LORD came down on Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain; and the LORD called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.
Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: Geh hinunter und schärfe dem Volk ein, sich nicht an den HERRN heranzudrängen, um zu schauen, sonst müssen viele von ihnen umkommen.
Then the LORD spoke to Moses, “Go down, warn the people, so that they do not break through to the LORD to gaze, and many of them perish.
Auch die Priester, die sich dem HERRN nähern, müssen sich geheiligt haben, damit der HERR in ihre Reihen keine Bresche schlägt.
“Also let the priests who come near to the LORD consecrate themselves, or else the LORD will break out against them.”
Mose entgegnete dem HERRN: Das Volk kann nicht auf den Sinai steigen. Denn du selbst hast uns eingeschärft: Zieh eine Grenze um den Berg und erklär ihn für heilig!
Moses said to the LORD, “The people cannot come up to Mount Sinai, for You warned us, saying, ‘Set bounds about the mountain and consecrate it.’”
Doch der HERR sprach zu ihm: Geh hinunter und komm zusammen mit Aaron wieder herauf! Die Priester aber und das Volk sollen nicht versuchen, hinaufzusteigen und zum HERRN vorzudringen, damit er nicht in ihre Reihen eine Bresche schlägt.
Then the LORD said to him, “Go down and come up again, you and Aaron with you; but do not let the priests and the people break through to come up to the LORD, or He will break forth upon them.”
