Damals schickten Bet-El-Sarezer und Regem-Melech und seine Leute, um das Angesicht des HERRN gnädig zu stimmen, eine Gesandtschaft
Now the town of Bethel had sent Sharezer and Regemmelech and their men to seek the favor of the LORD,

speaking to the priests who belong to the house of the LORD of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, “Shall I weep in the fifth month and abstain, as I have done these many years?”

Then the word of the LORD of hosts came to me, saying,
Sag dem ganzen Volk des Landes und den Priestern: Wenn ihr im fünften und im siebten Monat gefastet und Klage abgehalten habt, und das siebzig Jahre lang — bin etwa ich es, für den ihr gefastet habt?
“Say to all the people of the land and to the priests, ‘When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months these seventy years, was it actually for Me that you fasted?
Und wenn ihr esst und trinkt, seid denn nicht ihr selbst es, die essen, und ihr selbst es, die trinken?
‘When you eat and drink, do you not eat for yourselves and do you not drink for yourselves?
Sind es nicht die Worte, die der HERR durch die früheren Propheten verkündete, als Jerusalem bewohnt und sorglos war samt den Städten ringsum, als der Negeb und die Schefela noch bewohnt waren?
‘Are not these the words which the LORD proclaimed by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and prosperous along with its cities around it, and the Negev and the foothills were inhabited?’”
So spricht der HERR der Heerscharen: Haltet gerechtes Gericht, erweist Güte und Erbarmen, ein jeder gegenüber seinem Bruder;
“Thus has the LORD of hosts said, ‘Dispense true justice and practice kindness and compassion each to his brother;
unterdrückt nicht die Witwe und Waise, den Fremden und Armen und plant in eurem Herzen nichts Böses gegeneinander!
and do not oppress the widow or the orphan, the stranger or the poor; and do not devise evil in your hearts against one another.’
Doch sie weigerten sich hinzuhören, sie zeigten störrisch die Schulter und verstopften ihre Ohren, um nicht zu hören.
“But they refused to pay attention and turned a stubborn shoulder and stopped their ears from hearing.
Sie machten ihr Herz zu hartem Diamant, um die Weisung und die Worte nicht hören zu müssen, die der HERR der Heerscharen gesandt hatte durch seinen Geist, im Mund der früheren Propheten. Deshalb kam ein großer Zorn vom HERRN der Heerscharen
“They made their hearts like flint so that they could not hear the law and the words which the LORD of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets; therefore great wrath came from the LORD of hosts.
und es geschah: Wie er gerufen hatte und sie nicht hörten, so sollten sie nun rufen und ich wollte nicht hören, spricht der HERR der Heerscharen,
“And just as He called and they would not listen, so they called and I would not listen,” says the LORD of hosts;
sondern wollte sie verwehen über alle Nationen hin, die ihnen unbekannt waren. Nach ihnen aber verödete das Land, sodass niemand mehr darin hin- und herzog, und so haben sie ein begehrenswertes Land zur Wüste gemacht.
“but I scattered them with a storm wind among all the nations whom they have not known. Thus the land is desolated behind them so that no one went back and forth, for they made the pleasant land desolate.”
