In Seïr saßen einst die Horiter, aber deren Besitz haben die Nachkommen Esaus übernommen. Als sie vordrangen, vernichteten sie die Horiter und setzten sich an deren Stelle, so wie die Israeliten es mit dem Land taten, das ihnen der HERR zum Besitz bestimmt hatte.

Auch wohnten vorzeiten in Seir die Horiter; und die Kinder Esau vertrieben und vertilgten sie vor sich her und wohnten an ihrer Statt, gleich wie Israel dem Lande seiner Besitzung tat, das ihnen der HERR gab.

Auch im Gebirge Seïr hatte früher ein anderes Volk gelebt, die Horiter. Doch die Edomiter vertrieben und vernichteten die Horiter und ließen sich an ihrer Stelle dort nieder, so wie die Israeliten die Gebiete in Besitz nahmen, die der HERR ihnen gegeben hatte.
