    The Law of Liberty

    Receive one who is weak in the faith, but not to disputes over doubtful things.

    Der eine glaubt, alles essen zu dürfen, der Schwache aber isst nur Gemüse.

    For one believes he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables.
  • 3
    Wer Fleisch isst, verachte den nicht, der es nicht isst; wer aber kein Fleisch isst, richte den nicht, der es isst. Denn Gott hat ihn angenommen.

    Let not him who eats despise him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats; for God has received him.

    Wer bist du, dass du den Diener eines anderen richtest? Durch seinen eigenen Herrn steht oder fällt er. Er wird aber stehen; denn der Herr hat die Macht, ihm Stand zu geben.

    Who are you to judge another’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand.

    Der eine nämlich bevorzugt bestimmte Tage, der andere aber macht keinen Unterschied zwischen den Tagen. Jeder soll von seiner eigenen Auffassung überzeugt sein.

    One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind.

    Wer einen bestimmten Tag bevorzugt, tut es zur Ehre des Herrn. Und wer Fleisch isst, tut es zur Ehre des Herrn; denn er dankt Gott dabei. Und wer kein Fleisch isst, unterlässt es zur Ehre des Herrn und auch er dankt Gott.

    He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; [a]and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks.

    Denn keiner von uns lebt sich selber und keiner stirbt sich selber:

    For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself.

    Leben wir, so leben wir dem Herrn, sterben wir, so sterben wir dem Herrn. Ob wir leben oder ob wir sterben, wir gehören dem Herrn.

    For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.

    Denn Christus ist gestorben und lebendig geworden, um Herr zu sein über Tote und Lebende.

    For to this end Christ died [b]and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living.

    Du aber, was richtest du deinen Bruder? Und du, was verachtest du deinen Bruder? Wir werden doch alle vor dem Richterstuhl Gottes stehen.

    But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of [c]Christ.

    Denn es steht geschrieben: So wahr ich lebe, spricht der Herr, vor mir wird jedes Knie sich beugen und jede Zunge wird Gott preisen.

    For it is written:
    “As I live, says the Lord,
    Every knee shall bow to Me,
    And every tongue shall confess to God.”

    Also wird jeder von uns vor Gott Rechenschaft über sich selbst ablegen.

    So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.
  • 13
    Daher wollen wir uns nicht mehr gegenseitig richten. Achtet vielmehr darauf, dem Bruder keinen Anstoß zu geben und ihn nicht zu Fall zu bringen!

    Therefore let us not judge one another [d]anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way.

    Ich weiß und bin im Herrn Jesus fest davon überzeugt, dass nichts unrein ist in sich selbst; unrein ist es nur für den, der es als unrein betrachtet.

    The Law of Love

    I know and am convinced by the Lord Jesus that there is nothing unclean of itself; but to him who considers anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean.

    Denn wenn wegen einer Speise, die du isst, dein Bruder verwirrt und betrübt wird, dann handelst du nicht mehr der Liebe gemäß. Richte durch deine Speise nicht die zugrunde, für die Christus gestorben ist!

    Yet if your brother is grieved because of your food, you are no longer walking in love. Do not destroy with your food the one for whom Christ died.

    Es darf doch euer wahres Gut nicht der Lästerung preisgegeben werden;

    Therefore do not let your good be spoken of as evil;
  • 17
    denn das Reich Gottes ist nicht Essen und Trinken, sondern Gerechtigkeit, Friede und Freude im Heiligen Geist.

    for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

    Denn wer Christus so dient, ist Gott wohlgefällig und geachtet bei den Menschen.

    For he who serves Christ in [e]these things is acceptable to God and approved by men.
  • 19
    Lasst uns also dem nachjagen, was dem Frieden dient und der gegenseitigen Auferbauung!

    Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may [f]edify another.
  • 20
    Reiß nicht wegen einer Speise das Werk Gottes nieder! Alle Dinge sind rein; schlecht ist es jedoch, wenn ein Mensch durch sein Essen Anstoß erregt.

    Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All things indeed are pure, but it is evil for the man who eats with [g]offense.

    Es ist nicht gut, Fleisch zu essen oder Wein zu trinken oder sonst etwas zu tun, wenn dein Bruder daran Anstoß nimmt.

    It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles [h]or is offended or is made weak.

    Die Überzeugung, die du selbst hast, sollst du vor Gott haben. Wohl dem, der sich nicht zu verurteilen braucht bei dem, was er für recht hält.

    [i]Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves.

    Wer aber Zweifel hat, wenn er etwas isst, der ist gerichtet, weil er nicht aus der Überzeugung des Glaubens handelt. Alles, was nicht aus Glauben geschieht, ist Sünde.

    But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is [j]sin.
