Während seiner Regierungszeit rückte der assyrische König Tiglat-Pileser mit seinem Heer gegen Israel an. Menahem gab ihm 35 Tonnen Silber. In the days of Pekah king of Israel came Tiglathpileser king of Assyria, and took Ijon, and Abelbethmaachah, and Janoah, and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Gilead, and Galilee, all the land of Naphtali, and carried them captive to Assyria.

Er regierte 16 Jahre in Jerusalem. Seine Mutter hieß Jeruscha und war eine Tochter von Zadok. Jotam war 25 Jahre alt, als er König wurde.
Five and twenty years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Jerusha, the daughter of Zadok.
