Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, saying,

I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.
Jesaja war inzwischen wieder gegangen. Doch er war noch nicht einmal bis zum Tor des inneren Vorhofs gekommen, als der HERR ihn noch einmal mit einer Botschaft zu Hiskia zurücksandte. Jesaja ging erneut zum König und sagte: »Du König meines Volkes, hör, was der HERR, der Gott deines Vorfahren David, dir sagen lässt: Ich habe dein Gebet gehört und deine Tränen gesehen. Ich will dich gesund machen. Übermorgen kannst du wieder in den Tempel des HERRN gehen.
And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the LORD came to him, saying,
Ich verlängere dein Leben um fünfzehn Jahre. Auch will ich dich und diese Stadt vor dem assyrischen König bewahren. Um meiner eigenen Ehre willen und weil ich es meinem Diener David versprochen habe, beschütze ich Jerusalem.«
And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.
Dann befahl Jesaja: »Man soll einen Umschlag aus gepressten Feigen machen und ihn auf das Geschwür des Königs legen!« Da wurde Hiskia gesund.
And Isaiah said, Take a lump of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.
Vorher hatte Hiskia Jesaja gefragt: »Woran kann ich erkennen, dass der HERR mich wieder gesund macht und dass ich übermorgen zum Tempel gehen kann?«
And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What shall be the sign that the LORD will heal me, and that I shall go up into the house of the LORD the third day?
Jesaja hatte geantwortet: »Der HERR gibt dir ein Zeichen, an dem du erkennen wirst, dass er sein Versprechen hält: Soll der Schatten an der Treppe zehn Stufen vorwärtsgehen, oder soll er zehn zurückwandern?«
And Isaiah said, This sign shalt thou have of the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing that he hath spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees, or go back ten degrees?
Hiskia antwortete: »Es ist nichts Besonderes, wenn der Schatten zehn Stufen vorangeht. Nein, er soll zehn Stufen zurückwandern!«
And Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees: nay, but let the shadow return backward ten degrees.
Da betete der Prophet Jesaja zum HERRN. Und Gott ließ den Schatten an der Treppe, die seinerzeit König Ahas gebaut hatte, zehn Stufen zurückgehen.
And Isaiah the prophet cried unto the LORD: and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz.
Kurze Zeit später kam eine Gesandtschaft des babylonischen Königs Merodach-Baladan zu Hiskia. Merodach-Baladan war ein Sohn von Baladan. Er hatte gehört, dass Hiskia schwer krank gewesen war, und ließ ihm deshalb einen Brief und Geschenke überbringen.

Hiskia freute sich darüber und zeigte den Gesandten sein ganzes Schatzhaus. In alle Kammern ließ er sie schauen. Sie sahen das Silber und das Gold, die kostbaren Öle und Gewürze. Sogar das Waffenlager und die Vorratshäuser zeigte er ihnen. Im ganzen Palast und im ganzen Reich gab es nichts Bedeutendes, was diese Männer nicht zu sehen bekamen.
And Hezekiah hearkened unto them, and shewed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not.
Da ging der Prophet Jesaja zu König Hiskia. »Woher kamen diese Männer, und was wollten sie von dir?«, fragte er, und Hiskia antwortete: »Aus einem fernen Land sind sie gekommen, aus Babylonien.«
Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country, even from Babylon.
»Was haben sie im Palast gesehen?«, wollte Jesaja wissen. Hiskia erwiderte: »Sie haben alles gesehen, was ich besitze. In jede einzelne Schatzkammer ließ ich sie schauen.«
And he said, What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, All the things that are in mine house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them.
Da sagte Jesaja: »Hör, was der HERR dazu sagt:
And Isaiah said unto Hezekiah, Hear the word of the LORD.
Eines Tages wird der ganze Reichtum in deinem Palast — alle Schätze, die du und deine Vorfahren angehäuft haben — nach Babylon fortgebracht werden. Nichts wird übrig bleiben.
Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day, shall be carried into Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD.
Auch einige von deinen eigenen Söhnen, die dir noch geboren werden, wird man verschleppen. Sie müssen als Eunuchen im Palast des babylonischen Königs dienen.«
And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.
Hiskia sagte nur: »Der HERR weiß, was er tut; ich beuge mich seinem Urteil. Wenn nur zu meinen Lebzeiten noch Frieden und Ruhe herrschen!«
Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. And he said, Is it not good, if peace and truth be in my days?
