In dem Stadtteil von Jerusalem, der »Stadt Davids« genannt wurde, ließ David mehrere Häuser für sich bauen. Er bestimmte auch einen Ort, wo die Bundeslade Gottes stehen sollte, und ließ dort ein Zelt für sie errichten.

Now David built houses for himself in the city of David; and he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it.

Dann ordnete er an: »Nur die Leviten dürfen die Bundeslade tragen! Denn sie hat der HERR dazu erwählt. Sie sollen die Dienste am Heiligtum für alle Zeiten verrichten.«
Then David said, “No one is to carry the ark of God but the Levites; for the LORD chose them to carry the ark of God and to minister to Him forever.”
Danach ließ David Abgesandte aus ganz Israel nach Jerusalem kommen, um die Bundeslade an den Ort zu bringen, den er für sie vorbereitet hatte.
And David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the LORD to its place which he had prepared for it.
Der König rief auch die Nachkommen von Aaron und die anderen Leviten nach Jerusalem.
David gathered together the sons of Aaron and the Levites:
Folgende Sippenoberhäupter des Stammes Levi kamen zusammen mit ihren Sippen: von Kehats Nachkommen: Uriël mit 120 Mann;
of the sons of Kohath, Uriel the chief, and 120 of his relatives;
von Meraris Nachkommen: Asaja mit 220 Mann;
of the sons of Merari, Asaiah the chief, and 220 of his relatives;
von Gerschons Nachkommen: Joel mit 130 Mann;
of the sons of Gershom, Joel the chief, and 130 of his relatives;
von Elizafans Nachkommen: Schemaja mit 200 Mann;
of the sons of Elizaphan, Shemaiah the chief, and 200 of his relatives;
von Hebrons Nachkommen: Eliël mit 80 Mann;
of the sons of Hebron, Eliel the chief, and 80 of his relatives;
von Usiëls Nachkommen: Amminadab mit 112 Mann.
of the sons of Uzziel, Amminadab the chief, and 112 of his relatives.
David ließ die Priester Zadok und Abjatar sowie die sechs Sippenoberhäupter zu sich kommen
Then David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and for the Levites, for Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel and Amminadab,
und sagte zu ihnen: »Ihr seid die Oberhäupter der Leviten. Zusammen mit euren Stammesbrüdern sollt ihr die Bundeslade des HERRN, des Gottes Israels, nach Jerusalem bringen an den Ort, den ich für sie bestimmt habe. Macht euch bereit für diese heilige Aufgabe, reinigt euch!
and said to them, “You are the heads of the fathers’ households of the Levites; consecrate yourselves both you and your relatives, that you may bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel to the place that I have prepared for it.
Beim ersten Mal ließ der HERR, unser Gott, einen Mann aus unserer Mitte sterben, weil nicht ihr Leviten die Bundeslade getragen habt und weil wir seine Weisungen nicht beachtet haben.«
“Because you did not carry it at the first, the LORD our God made an outburst on us, for we did not seek Him according to the ordinance.”
Da reinigten sich die Priester und die Leviten für die heilige Aufgabe, die Bundeslade des HERRN, des Gottes Israels, nach Jerusalem zu bringen.
So the priests and the Levites consecrated themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel.
Die Leviten sollten sie mit Stangen auf ihren Schultern tragen, wie Mose es im Auftrag des HERRN angeordnet hatte.
The sons of the Levites carried the ark of God on their shoulders with the poles thereon, as Moses had commanded according to the word of the LORD.
David gab den Oberhäuptern der Leviten den Auftrag, aus ihrem Stamm Männer auszuwählen, die bei dem Fest fröhliche Lieder singen und dazu auf Harfen, Lauten und Zimbeln spielen sollten.
Then David spoke to the chiefs of the Levites to appoint their relatives the singers, with instruments of music, harps, lyres, loud-sounding cymbals, to raise sounds of joy.
Folgende Männer wurden für diese Aufgabe bestimmt: Heman, der Sohn von Joel, und aus derselben Sippe Asaf, der Sohn von Berechja, weiter Etan, der Sohn von Kuschaja, ein Nachkomme von Merari.
So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel, and from his relatives, Asaph the son of Berechiah; and from the sons of Merari their relatives, Ethan the son of Kushaiah,
Ihnen zur Seite standen die Torwächter Secharja, Jaasiël, Schemiramot, Jehiël, Unni, Eliab, Benaja, Maaseja, Mattitja, Elifelehu, Mikneja, Obed-Edom und Jeïël.
and with them their relatives of the second rank, Zechariah, Ben, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-edom and Jeiel, the gatekeepers.
Heman, Asaf und Etan sangen und schlugen die bronzenen Zimbeln.
So the singers, Heman, Asaph and Ethan were appointed to sound aloud cymbals of bronze;
Secharja, Jaasiël, Schemiramot, Jehiël, Unni, Eliab, Maaseja und Benaja spielten die hochgestimmten Harfen.
and Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah and Benaiah, with harps tuned to alamoth;
Mattitja, Elifelehu, Mikneja, Obed-Edom, Jeïël und Asasja spielten die tiefgestimmten Lauten. Alle Musiker begleiteten den Gesang.
and Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-edom, Jeiel and Azaziah, to lead with lyres tuned to the sheminith.
Kenanja leitete den Chor der Leviten, denn er war musikalisch sehr begabt.
Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was in charge of the singing; he gave instruction in singing because he was skillful.
Berechja, Elkana, Obed-Edom und Jehija bewachten die Bundeslade. Die Priester Schebanja, Joschafat, Netanel, Amasai, Secharja, Benaja und Eliëser gingen vor der Bundeslade Gottes her und bliesen die Trompeten.
Berechiah and Elkanah were gatekeepers for the ark.
David, die Sippenoberhäupter von Israel und die Offiziere seiner Truppen zogen mit den Leviten und Priestern zu Obed-Edoms Haus, um die Bundeslade des HERRN nach Jerusalem zu holen. Alle freuten sich sehr.
So it was David, with the elders of Israel and the captains over thousands, who went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from the house of Obed-edom with joy.
Weil Gott die Leviten nicht sterben ließ, die die Bundeslade trugen, opferte man zum Dank sieben junge Stiere und sieben Schafböcke.
Because God was helping the Levites who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD, they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams.
David trug ein Obergewand aus feinem Leinen, ebenso die Träger der Bundeslade, die Sänger und der Gesangsleiter Kenanja. David war dazu mit einem Leinenschurz bekleidet, wie ihn sonst die Priester trugen.
Now David was clothed with a robe of fine linen with all the Levites who were carrying the ark, and the singers and Chenaniah the leader of the singing with the singers. David also wore an ephod of linen.
Jubelnd brachten alle Israeliten die Bundeslade des HERRN nach Jerusalem. Die Musiker spielten auf Hörnern, Trompeten, Zimbeln, Harfen und Lauten.
Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with sound of the horn, with trumpets, with loud-sounding cymbals, with harps and lyres.
Als die Menge in der »Stadt Davids« ankam, schaute Davids Frau Michal, Sauls Tochter, aus dem Fenster. Sie sah, wie der König vor Freude hüpfte und tanzte, und verachtete ihn dafür.
It happened when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came to the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and celebrating; and she despised him in her heart.
