Asas Nachfolger wurde sein Sohn Joschafat. Er baute seine Macht Israel gegenüber aus;

in alle befestigten Städte Judas legte er Truppen, und in ganz Juda setzte er Statthalter ein, ebenso in den Städten Ephraims, die sein Vater Asa erobert hatte.
He placed forces in all the fortified cities of Judah and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim that Asa his father had captured.
Der HERR stand Joschafat bei, weil er dem Vorbild von David folgte und keine anderen Götter verehrte.
The Lord was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the earlier ways of his father David. He did not seek the Baals,
Im Gegensatz zu den Königen von Israel diente er dem Gott seines Vaters und befolgte seine Gebote.
but sought the God of his father and walked in his commandments, and not according to the practices of Israel.
Darum stärkte der HERR Joschafats Macht. Menschen aus ganz Juda kamen und brachten ihm Geschenke, und so wurde er reich und angesehen.
Therefore the Lord established the kingdom in his hand. And all Judah brought tribute to Jehoshaphat, and he had great riches and honor.
Das ermutigte ihn, sich ganz auf den HERRN zu verlassen. Er ließ in Juda die Opferstätten und die Holzpfähle zerstören, die der Göttin Aschera geweiht waren.
His heart was courageous in the ways of the Lord. And furthermore, he took the high places and the Asherim out of Judah.
In seinem 3. Regierungsjahr beschloss Joschafat, alle Bewohner von Juda im Gesetz Gottes unterrichten zu lassen. Er beauftragte damit seine Beamten Ben-Hajil, Obadja, Secharja, Netanel und Michaja;
In the third year of his reign he sent his officials, Ben-hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel, and Micaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah;
dazu die Leviten Schemaja, Netanja, Sebadja, Asaël, Schemiramot, Jonatan, Adonija, Tobija und Tob-Adonija sowie die Priester Elischama und Joram.
and with them the Levites, Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and Tobadonijah; and with these Levites, the priests Elishama and Jehoram.
Diese Männer zogen im Gebiet Judas von Stadt zu Stadt. Sie hatten das Gesetzbuch des HERRN bei sich und unterrichteten das Volk.
And they taught in Judah, having the Book of the Law of the Lord with them. They went about through all the cities of Judah and taught among the people.
Der HERR sorgte dafür, dass alle Königreiche rings um Juda große Angst vor Joschafat bekamen. Kein König wagte es, ihm den Krieg zu erklären.
And the fear of the Lord fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were around Judah, and they made no war against Jehoshaphat.
Die Philister zahlten ihm regelmäßig Silber als Tribut, und die Araber brachten ihm 7700 Schafböcke und 7700 Ziegenböcke.
Some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents and silver for tribute, and the Arabians also brought him 7,700 rams and 7,700 goats.
So konnte Joschafat seine Macht immer mehr ausbauen. Überall in Juda errichtete er Festungen und Vorratsstädte.
And Jehoshaphat grew steadily greater. He built in Judah fortresses and store cities,
In den Städten des Landes brachte er reiche Vorräte unter und verlegte seine besten Truppen nach Jerusalem.
and he had large supplies in the cities of Judah. He had soldiers, mighty men of valor, in Jerusalem.
Joschafats Heer war in Sippenverbände unterteilt. Der Heerführer vom Stamm Juda hieß Adna, er hatte den Befehl über 300.000 erfahrene Soldaten;
This was the muster of them by fathers’ houses: Of Judah, the commanders of thousands: Adnah the commander, with 300,000 mighty men of valor;
ihm zur Seite standen Johanan, dem 280.000 Mann unterstellt waren,
and next to him Jehohanan the commander, with 280,000;
und Amasja, der Sohn von Sichri, mit 200.000 erfahrenen Soldaten. Amasja hatte sich freiwillig für diese Aufgabe gemeldet, um dem HERRN zu dienen.
and next to him Amasiah the son of Zichri, a volunteer for the service of the Lord, with 200,000 mighty men of valor.
Der Heerführer vom Stamm Benjamin war Eljada, ein guter Soldat, mit 200.000 Mann, die mit Bogen und Schilden bewaffnet waren.
Of Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty man of valor, with 200,000 men armed with bow and shield;
Ihm zur Seite stand Josabad, der den Befehl über 180.000 gut ausgerüstete Soldaten hatte.
and next to him Jehozabad with 180,000 armed for war.
