Er teilte den Priestern ihre Aufgaben zu und ermutigte sie zu ihrem Dienst im Tempel des HERRN.
He appointed the priests to their offices and encouraged them in the service of the house of the Lord.
Er sagte zu den Leviten, die ganz Israel im Gesetz unterrichteten und zum Dienst für den HERRN geweiht waren: »Die Bundeslade hat ihren festen Platz im Tempel, den König Salomo von Israel, Davids Sohn, gebaut hat! Ihr braucht sie nicht auf euren Schultern von einem Ort zum anderen zu tragen. Darum könnt ihr euch hier im Tempel mit ganzer Kraft dem Dienst für den HERRN, euren Gott, und für sein Volk Israel widmen!
And he said to the Levites who taught all Israel and who were holy to the Lord, “Put the holy ark in the house that Solomon the son of David, king of Israel, built. You need not carry it on your shoulders. Now serve the Lord your God and his people Israel.
Stellt wieder die Dienstgruppen nach euren Sippen zusammen, wie König David sie damals eingeteilt und sein Sohn Salomo sie später aufgeschrieben hat!
Prepare yourselves according to your fathers’ houses by your divisions, as prescribed in the writing of David king of Israel and the document of Solomon his son.
Jede Dienstgruppe ist für eine bestimmte Anzahl von Sippen aus dem Volk zuständig. Kommt zum Tempel
And stand in the Holy Place according to the groupings of the fathers’ houses of your brothers the lay people, and according to the division of the Levites by fathers’ household.

Josia schenkte den Israeliten, die zum Fest gekommen waren, aus seinem Besitz 30.000 Lämmer und junge Ziegenböcke für das Passahopfer sowie 3000 Rinder für andere Opfer.
Then Josiah contributed to the lay people, as Passover offerings for all who were present, lambs and young goats from the flock to the number of 30,000, and 3,000 bulls; these were from the king’s possessions.
Auch seine Beamten stifteten Tiere für das Volk, für die Priester und die Leviten. Hilkija, Secharja und Jehiël, die drei obersten Priester, gaben den anderen Priestern 2600 Lämmer und junge Ziegenböcke für das Passahopfer sowie 300 Rinder.
And his officials contributed willingly to the people, to the priests, and to the Levites. Hilkiah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, the chief officers of the house of God, gave to the priests for the Passover offerings 2,600 Passover lambs and 300 bulls.

Conaniah also, and Shemaiah and Nethanel his brothers, and Hashabiah and Jeiel and Jozabad, the chiefs of the Levites, gave to the Levites for the Passover offerings 5,000 lambs and young goats and 500 bulls.

When the service had been prepared for, the priests stood in their place, and the Levites in their divisions according to the king’s command.

And they set aside the burnt offerings that they might distribute them according to the groupings of the fathers’ houses of the lay people, to offer to the Lord, as it is written in the Book of Moses. And so they did with the bulls.

And they roasted the Passover lamb with fire according to the rule; and they boiled the holy offerings in pots, in cauldrons, and in pans, and carried them quickly to all the lay people.
Danach bereiteten sie für sich und die Priester die Passahlämmer zu. Denn die Priester, die Nachkommen von Aaron, mussten so viele Brandopfer und Fettstücke darbringen, dass sie bis in die Nacht hinein damit beschäftigt waren.
And afterward they prepared for themselves and for the priests, because the priests, the sons of Aaron, were offering the burnt offerings and the fat parts until night; so the Levites prepared for themselves and for the priests, the sons of Aaron.
Während des ganzen Festes blieben die Sänger aus der Sippe Asaf an ihrem Platz, wie es einst David, sein Seher Jedutun, Asaf und Heman angeordnet hatten. Auch die Torwächter blieben an den Tempeleingängen. Sie brauchten ihre Posten nicht zu verlassen, weil die Leviten auch für sie das Passah zubereiteten.
The singers, the sons of Asaph, were in their place according to the command of David, and Asaph, and Heman, and Jeduthun the king’s seer; and the gatekeepers were at each gate. They did not need to depart from their service, for their brothers the Levites prepared for them.
So wurde an jenem Tag auf Josias Befehl alles geordnet, was den Tempeldienst während des Passahfestes betraf. Nun konnte das Volk das Passahfest feiern, und auch die Brandopfer konnten auf dem Altar des HERRN dargebracht werden.
So all the service of the Lord was prepared that day, to keep the Passover and to offer burnt offerings on the altar of the Lord, according to the command of King Josiah.
Eine Woche lang feierten die Israeliten, die nach Jerusalem gekommen waren, das Passahfest und das Fest der ungesäuerten Brote.

No Passover like it had been kept in Israel since the days of Samuel the prophet. None of the kings of Israel had kept such a Passover as was kept by Josiah, and the priests and the Levites, and all Judah and Israel who were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Nachdem Josia die Arbeiten am Tempel beendet hatte, zog Pharao Necho, der König von Ägypten, mit seinem Heer in Richtung Karkemisch am Euphrat. Josia versuchte, die Ägypter mit seinen Truppen aufzuhalten.

Da schickte der Pharao eine Gesandtschaft zu ihm und ließ ihm sagen: »Was habe ich dir getan, König von Juda? Nicht dich greife ich an, sondern das Königshaus, mit dem ich Krieg führe! Gott will, dass ich mich beeile, er steht auf meiner Seite. Stell dich ihm nicht in den Weg, sonst wird er dich vernichten!«
But he sent envoys to him, saying, “What have we to do with each other, king of Judah? I am not coming against you this day, but against the house with which I am at war. And God has commanded me to hurry. Cease opposing God, who is with me, lest he destroy you.”
Doch Josia ließ sich nicht umstimmen. Er hörte nicht auf Nechos Worte, durch die Gott ihn warnen wollte. Stattdessen verkleidete er sich als einfacher Soldat und zog mit seinem Heer in die Ebene von Megiddo, wo es zum Kampf kam.
Nevertheless, Josiah did not turn away from him, but disguised himself in order to fight with him. He did not listen to the words of Neco from the mouth of God, but came to fight in the plain of Megiddo.
In der Schlacht wurde König Josia von den feindlichen Bogenschützen getroffen. Da befahl er seinen Dienern: »Bringt mich weg von hier, ich bin schwer verwundet!«
And the archers shot King Josiah. And the king said to his servants, “Take me away, for I am badly wounded.”
Sie hoben ihn aus dem Streitwagen, trugen ihn zu einem anderen Wagen und brachten ihn nach Jerusalem. Dort starb er und wurde in den Königsgräbern seiner Vorfahren beigesetzt. Ganz Juda und Jerusalem trauerte um ihn.
So his servants took him out of the chariot and carried him in his second chariot and brought him to Jerusalem. And he died and was buried in the tombs of his fathers. All Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah.
Jeremia schrieb ein Klagelied über den verstorbenen König, und noch heute ist es ein fester Brauch in Israel, dass die Sänger und Sängerinnen Josia in ihren Trauerliedern beklagen. Die Texte stehen im Buch der Klagelieder.
Jeremiah also uttered a lament for Josiah; and all the singing men and singing women have spoken of Josiah in their laments to this day. They made these a rule in Israel; behold, they are written in the Laments.
