Jeschua, der Sohn von Jozadak, und die anderen Priester sowie Serubbabel, der Sohn von Schealtiël, und seine Verwandten wollten den Altar des Gottes Israels wieder aufbauen. Auf ihm sollten die Priester Brandopfer darbringen, so wie es im Gesetz von Mose, dem Mann Gottes, vorgeschrieben ist.
Then Jeshua the son of Jozadak and his brothers the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and his brothers arose and built the altar of the God of Israel to offer burnt offerings on it, as it is written in the law of Moses, the man of God.
Sie errichteten den Altar an seinem alten Platz, obwohl sie in ständiger Furcht vor den anderen Völkern im Land leben mussten. Jeden Morgen und jeden Abend opferten sie für den HERRN.
So they set up the altar on its foundation, for they were terrified because of the peoples of the lands; and they offered burnt offerings on it to the LORD, burnt offerings morning and evening.
Das Laubhüttenfest feierten sie wieder nach der Vorschrift des Gesetzes: An jedem Tag der Festwoche schlachteten sie die vorgegebene Zahl an Tieren und verbrannten sie auf dem Altar.
They celebrated the Feast of Booths, as it is written, and offered the fixed number of burnt offerings daily, according to the ordinance, as each day required;
Von nun an wurden alle Brandopfer regelmäßig dargebracht, ebenso die Opfer bei den Neumondfeiern und allen übrigen heiligen Festen. Auch freiwillige Opfergaben stiftete das Volk für den HERRN.
and afterward there was a continual burnt offering, also for the new moons and for all the fixed festivals of the LORD that were consecrated, and from everyone who offered a freewill offering to the LORD.
Obwohl das Fundament des Tempels noch nicht gelegt war, begannen die Israeliten am 1. Tag des 7. Monats, dem HERRN wieder Brandopfer darzubringen.

Dann nahmen sie Steinhauer und Zimmerleute in Dienst und beauftragten Arbeiter aus Sidon und Tyrus, Zedernstämme aus dem Libanon auf dem Seeweg nach Jafo zu bringen. Sie gaben ihnen dafür Nahrungsmittel, Getränke und Öl. Kyrus, der König von Persien, hatte es ihnen erlaubt.
Then they gave money to the masons and carpenters, and food, drink and oil to the Sidonians and to the Tyrians, to bring cedar wood from Lebanon to the sea at Joppa, according to the permission they had from Cyrus king of Persia.
Im 2. Monat des 2. Jahres nach der Rückkehr begannen Serubbabel, der Sohn von Schealtiël, Jeschua, der Sohn von Jozadak, die anderen Priester und Leviten sowie alle, die aus der Verbannung nach Jerusalem heimgekehrt waren, mit dem Wiederaufbau des Tempels. Die Aufsicht über die Bauarbeiten gaben sie den Leviten, die 20 Jahre und älter waren.
Temple Restoration Begun
Now in the second year of their coming to the house of God at Jerusalem in the second month, Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Jeshua the son of Jozadak and the rest of their brothers the priests and the Levites, and all who came from the captivity to Jerusalem, began the work and appointed the Levites from twenty years and older to oversee the work of the house of the LORD.
Jeschua, seine Söhne und Verwandten sowie Kadmiël und seine Söhne, die Nachkommen von Hodawja, leiteten gemeinsam die Männer an, die den Tempel wieder errichteten. Die Leviten aus der Sippe Henadad gehörten ebenfalls zu den Aufsehern.
Then Jeshua with his sons and brothers stood united with Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah and the sons of Henadad with their sons and brothers the Levites, to oversee the workmen in the temple of God.
Als die Bauleute den Grundstein für den Tempel des HERRN legten, standen die Priester in ihren Gewändern daneben und bliesen die Trompeten. Die Leviten aus der Sippe Asaf schlugen die Zimbeln und lobten den HERRN. So hatte es schon David, der König von Israel, angeordnet.
Now when the builders had laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, the priests stood in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals, to praise the LORD according to the directions of King David of Israel.
Sie priesen Gott und sangen im Wechsel das Lied: »Der HERR ist gütig, seine Gnade für Israel hört niemals auf!« Als der Grundstein für den Tempel des HERRN gelegt war und die Loblieder erklangen, brach das ganze Volk in lauten Jubel aus.
They sang, praising and giving thanks to the LORD, saying, “For He is good, for His lovingkindness is upon Israel forever.” And all the people shouted with a great shout when they praised the LORD because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.
Doch während die einen vor Freude jubelten, weinten die älteren Priester, Leviten und Sippenoberhäupter laut, denn sie hatten den ersten Tempel noch gekannt.
Yet many of the priests and Levites and heads of fathers’ households, the old men who had seen the first temple, wept with a loud voice when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, while many shouted aloud for joy,
Man konnte die Freudenschreie vom Weinen kaum unterscheiden. Der Lärm war so groß, dass er noch in der Ferne zu hören war.
so that the people could not distinguish the sound of the shout of joy from the sound of the weeping of the people, for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the sound was heard far away.
