Nicht lange nachdem Jojakim, der Sohn von Josia, König von Juda geworden war, sprach der HERR zu Jeremia:
»Geh in den Tempelvorhof und richte meine Botschaft allen Menschen aus, die aus den Städten Judas kommen, um mich im Tempel anzubeten! Lass kein Wort davon weg!
“This is what the LORD says: Stand in the courtyard in front of the Temple of the LORD, and make an announcement to the people who have come there to worship from all over Judah. Give them my entire message; include every word.
Vielleicht hören sie darauf und kehren um von ihren falschen Wegen. Dann werde ich meinen Entschluss ändern und das Unheil nicht über sie hereinbrechen lassen, das ich ihnen wegen ihrer bösen Taten angedroht habe.
Perhaps they will listen and turn from their evil ways. Then I will change my mind about the disaster I am ready to pour out on them because of their sins.
Sag ihnen: So spricht der HERR: Wenn ihr nichts von mir wissen wollt und euch nicht an meine Weisungen haltet, die ich euch gegeben habe,
“Say to them, ‘This is what the LORD says: If you will not listen to me and obey my word I have given you,
wenn ihr die Warnungen der Propheten nicht beachtet, ja, wenn ihr nicht auf meine Boten hört, die ich immer wieder zu euch sende,
and if you will not listen to my servants, the prophets — for I sent them again and again to warn you, but you would not listen to them —
dann werde ich diesen Tempel zerstören so wie damals das Heiligtum in Silo. Alle anderen Völker der Erde werden jedem, den sie verfluchen wollen, das Schicksal Jerusalems herbeiwünschen.«
then I will destroy this Temple as I destroyed Shiloh, the place where the Tabernacle was located. And I will make Jerusalem an object of cursing in every nation on earth.’”
Die Priester, die Propheten und das ganze Volk hatten zugehört, wie Jeremia diese Warnungen vor dem Tempel aussprach.
The priests, the prophets, and all the people listened to Jeremiah as he spoke in front of the LORD’s Temple.
Kaum hatte er ihnen die Botschaft des HERRN ausgerichtet, nahmen sie ihn fest. »Das wirst du mit dem Leben bezahlen!«, schrien sie.
But when Jeremiah had finished his message, saying everything the LORD had told him to say, the priests and prophets and all the people at the Temple mobbed him. “Kill him!” they shouted.
»Wie kannst du im Namen des HERRN behaupten, dass es diesem Tempel wie dem Heiligtum in Silo ergeht und dass Jerusalem zerstört und menschenleer sein wird?« Im Nu war Jeremia auf dem Tempelvorplatz von einer großen Menschenmenge umringt.
“What right do you have to prophesy in the LORD’s name that this Temple will be destroyed like Shiloh? What do you mean, saying that Jerusalem will be destroyed and left with no inhabitants?” And all the people threatened him as he stood in front of the Temple.
Als die führenden Männer von Juda erfuhren, was geschehen war, gingen sie vom Königspalast zum Tempel hinauf und nahmen ihre Plätze vor dem Neuen Tor ein, um Gericht zu halten.
When the officials of Judah heard what was happening, they rushed over from the palace and sat down at the New Gate of the Temple to hold court.
Die Priester und Propheten klagten Jeremia vor den führenden Männern und allen Versammelten an: »Dieser Mann verdient den Tod! Er hat unserer Stadt ein böses Ende angekündigt, ihr habt es ja selbst gehört!«
The priests and prophets presented their accusations to the officials and the people. “This man should die!” they said. “You have heard with your own ears what a traitor he is, for he has prophesied against this city.”
Darauf erwiderte Jeremia: »Der HERR hat mich beauftragt, dies alles gegen den Tempel und die Stadt vorauszusagen.
Then Jeremiah spoke to the officials and the people in his own defense. “The LORD sent me to prophesy against this Temple and this city,” he said. “The LORD gave me every word that I have spoken.
Ändert euer Leben von Grund auf und hört wieder auf den HERRN, euren Gott! Dann wird er einlenken und das angedrohte Unheil nicht über euch hereinbrechen lassen.
But if you stop your sinning and begin to obey the LORD your God, he will change his mind about this disaster that he has announced against you.
Macht mit mir ruhig, was ihr wollt! Ich bin in eurer Hand.
As for me, I am in your hands — do with me as you think best.
Doch eins sollt ihr wissen: Wenn ihr mich hinrichten lasst, dann ladet ihr Schuld auf euch, auf diese Stadt und ihre Einwohner, weil ihr einen Unschuldigen umgebracht habt! Denn so wahr ich hier stehe: Der HERR hat mich zu euch gesandt, um euch alles anzukündigen, was ihr gehört habt.«
But if you kill me, rest assured that you will be killing an innocent man! The responsibility for such a deed will lie on you, on this city, and on every person living in it. For it is absolutely true that the LORD sent me to speak every word you have heard.”
Da waren sich die Richter und das Volk einig. »Dieser Mann hat auf keinen Fall die Todesstrafe verdient«, sagten sie zu den Priestern und Propheten, »denn er hat im Auftrag des HERRN zu uns geredet.«
Then the officials and the people said to the priests and prophets, “This man does not deserve the death sentence, for he has spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.”
Dann traten einige von den führenden Männern des Landes nach vorne und erzählten vor dem versammelten Volk:
Then some of the wise old men stood and spoke to all the people assembled there.
»Als König Hiskia noch regierte, gab es einen Propheten namens Micha aus Moreschet. Im Auftrag des HERRN, des allmächtigen Gottes, prophezeite er dem ganzen Volk: ›Der Berg Zion wird zu einem umgepflügten Acker werden, die Stadt Jerusalem zu einem Trümmerhaufen, und auf dem Tempelberg wird das Gestrüpp wuchern!‹
They said, “Remember when Micah of Moresheth prophesied during the reign of King Hezekiah of Judah. He told the people of Judah,
‘This is what the LORD of Heaven’s Armies says:
Mount Zion will be plowed like an open field;
Jerusalem will be reduced to ruins!
A thicket will grow on the heights
where the Temple now stands.’b

Doch weder König Hiskia von Juda noch das Volk ließen ihn deswegen töten; nein, Hiskia hatte Ehrfurcht vor dem HERRN und flehte zu ihm um Erbarmen. Da ließ der HERR das Unheil nicht geschehen, das er angekündigt hatte. — Wenn wir jetzt Jeremia töten, bringen wir großes Unglück über uns selbst!«
But did King Hezekiah and the people kill him for saying this? No, they turned from their sins and worshiped the LORD. They begged him for mercy. Then the LORD changed his mind about the terrible disaster he had pronounced against them. So we are about to do ourselves great harm.”
In jener Zeit gab es noch einen anderen Propheten, der wie Jeremia im Auftrag des HERRN weissagte: Uria, der Sohn von Schemaja, aus Kirjat-Jearim. Auch er kündigte Jerusalem und dem ganzen Land Juda Unheil an.
At this time Uriah son of Shemaiah from Kiriath-jearim was also prophesying for the LORD. And he predicted the same terrible disaster against the city and nation as Jeremiah did.
Als König Jojakim, seine Heerführer und die führenden Männer davon hörten, wollte der König ihn töten lassen. Uria erfuhr es und floh voller Angst nach Ägypten.
When King Jehoiakim and the army officers and officials heard what he was saying, the king sent someone to kill him. But Uriah heard about the plan and escaped in fear to Egypt.
Doch Jojakim schickte Elnatan, den Sohn von Achbor, mit einigen anderen Männern dorthin.
Then King Jehoiakim sent Elnathan son of Acbor to Egypt along with several other men to capture Uriah.
Sie nahmen Uria in Ägypten gefangen und brachten ihn zu Jojakim zurück. Der ließ ihn mit dem Schwert hinrichten und seine Leiche auf den Armenfriedhof werfen.
They took him prisoner and brought him back to King Jehoiakim. The king then killed Uriah with a sword and had him buried in an unmarked grave.
