Hoffnung für Alle
Ich hatte geschworen, ihnen das Land zu geben. Doch als ich sie dorthin geführt hatte, begannen sie, auf jedem Hügel und unter jedem dicht belaubten Baum ihren Götzen zu opfern. Sie meinten, sie könnten die Götter für sich gewinnen, indem sie wohlriechende Opfer für sie verbrannten und Wein als Trankopfer ausgossen. Doch sie erreichten nichts anderes, als mich dadurch zum Zorn zu reizen!

Denn da ich sie in das Land gebracht hatte, über welches ich meine Hand aufgehoben hatte, daß ich’s ihnen gäbe: wo sie einen hohen Hügel oder dichten Baum ersahen, daselbst opferten sie ihre Opfer und brachten dahin ihre verdrießlichen Gaben und räucherten daselbst ihren süßen Geruch und gossen daselbst ihre Trankopfer.

Als ich sie in das Land brachte, dessentwegen ich meine Hand erhoben hatte zum Schwur, es ihnen zu geben, da schauten sie aus nach jedem hohen Hügel und jedem dicht belaubten Baum und schlachteten dort ihre Opfer, brachten dort ihre ärgerlichen Gaben dar, legten dort ihre duftenden Spenden nieder und gossen dort ihre Trankopfer aus.
