Im 7. Jahr unserer Verbannung in Babylonien, am 10. Tag des 5. Monats, kamen einige führende Männer des Volkes Israel zu mir, um den HERRN zu befragen. Sie setzten sich vor mich hin und warteten.
The Rebellions of Israel
It came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth month, on the tenth day of the month, that certain of the elders of Israel came to inquire of the Lord, and sat before me.

Da empfing ich eine Botschaft vom HERRN. Er sprach zu mir:
Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
»Du Mensch, richte den Führern Israels aus, was ich, der HERR, ihnen zu sagen habe: Ihr seid gekommen, um mich zu befragen? Ich schwöre, so wahr ich lebe, dass ich euch keine Antwort gebe!«
“Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel, and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Have you come to inquire of Me? As I live,” says the Lord God, “I will not be inquired of by you.” ’
Dann fragte mich der Herr: »Bist du bereit, Mensch, das Urteil über sie zu sprechen? Dann tu es! Halte ihnen die abscheulichen Taten vor Augen, die ihre Vorfahren begangen haben!
Will you judge them, son of man, will you judge them? Then make known to them the abominations of their fathers.
Sag ihnen: So spricht Gott, der HERR: Als ich die Israeliten zu meinem Volk erwählte, erhob ich meine Hand zum Schwur und band mich durch ein Versprechen an sie, die Nachkommen von Jakob. Während sie in Ägypten lebten, offenbarte ich mich ihnen und schwor: ›Ich bin der HERR, euer Gott.
“Say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “On the day when I chose Israel and raised My hand in an oath to the descendants of the house of Jacob, and made Myself known to them in the land of Egypt, I raised My hand in an oath to them, saying, ‘I am the Lord your God.’
Ich verspreche, euch aus Ägypten herauszuführen und in ein Land zu bringen, das ich für euch ausgesucht habe. Es ist ein Land, in dem es selbst Milch und Honig im Überfluss gibt, das prächtigste weit und breit.‹
On that day I raised My hand in an oath to them, to bring them out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, ‘flowing with milk and honey,’ the glory of all lands.
Ich forderte sie auf: ›Werft alle eure abscheulichen Götterfiguren weg, an denen ihr so hängt! Verunreinigt euch nicht länger, indem ihr die Götter Ägyptens verehrt! Denn ich, der HERR, bin euer Gott.‹
Then I said to them, ‘Each of you, throw away the abominations which are before his eyes, and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.’
Aber sie lehnten sich gegen mich auf und wollten nicht auf mich hören. Kein Einziger warf die widerlichen Götzen weg, an die er sein Herz gehängt hatte; das ganze Volk verehrte weiterhin die ägyptischen Götter. Da wollte ich meinen Zorn an ihnen auslassen, noch in Ägypten sollten sie ihn mit ganzer Härte zu spüren bekommen.
Aber ich tat es nicht, denn sonst wäre mein Name bei allen Völkern ringsum in den Schmutz gezogen worden. Denn vor ihrer aller Augen hatte ich mich als der Gott Israels offenbart und geschworen, mein Volk aus Ägypten zu befreien.
But I acted for My name’s sake, that it should not be profaned before the Gentiles among whom they were, in whose sight I had made Myself known to them, to bring them out of the land of Egypt.
Darum führte ich sie heraus und ließ sie in die Wüste ziehen.
“Therefore I made them go out of the land of Egypt and brought them into the wilderness.
Dort gab ich ihnen meine Gebote und verkündete meine Weisungen, die jedem Leben bringen, der sie befolgt.
Ich setzte auch den Sabbat als Ruhetag ein; er war das Zeichen meines Bundes mit ihnen. Daran sollten sie erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin, der sie zu seinem heiligen Volk macht.
Moreover I also gave them My Sabbaths, to be a sign between them and Me, that they might know that I am the Lord who sanctifies them.
Aber auch dort in der Wüste lehnten sich die Israeliten gegen mich auf; sie hielten sich nicht an meine Gebote und schlugen meine Weisungen in den Wind, die doch jedem Leben bringen, der sie befolgt. Auch den Sabbat entweihten sie auf schlimmste Weise. Da wollte ich meinen Zorn an ihnen auslassen und sie in der Wüste vernichten.
Yet the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness; they did not walk in My statutes; they despised My judgments, ‘which, if a man does, he shall live by them’; and they greatly defiled My Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out My fury on them in the wilderness, to consume them.
Aber ich tat es nicht, denn sonst wäre mein Name zum Gespött geworden bei allen Völkern, vor deren Augen ich die Israeliten aus Ägypten herausgeführt hatte.
But I acted for My name’s sake, that it should not be profaned before the Gentiles, in whose sight I had brought them out.
Ich erhob jedoch meine Hand zum Schwur und sagte: ›Ich werde euch nicht in das verheißene Land führen, in dem es selbst Milch und Honig im Überfluss gibt und das prächtiger ist als alle anderen Länder.
So I also raised My hand in an oath to them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, ‘flowing with milk and honey,’ the glory of all lands,
Denn ihr habt meine Weisungen in den Wind geschlagen, ihr habt nicht nach meinen Geboten gelebt und den Ruhetag nicht eingehalten. Stattdessen habt ihr euch von ganzem Herzen den Götzen verschrieben.‹
because they despised My judgments and did not walk in My statutes, but profaned My Sabbaths; for their heart went after their idols.
Doch wieder hatte ich Mitleid mit ihnen, und darum rottete ich sie dort in der Wüste nicht völlig aus.
Nevertheless My eye spared them from destruction. I did not make an end of them in the wilderness.
Ihre Kinder warnte ich: ›Lebt nicht nach den Geboten und Ordnungen, die eure Väter aufgestellt haben! Betet ihre Götzen nicht an, denn sonst macht ihr euch selbst unrein!
“But I said to their children in the wilderness, ‘Do not walk in the statutes of your fathers, nor observe their judgments, nor defile yourselves with their idols.
Ich bin doch der HERR, euer Gott. Richtet euch nach meinen Geboten, achtet auf meine Ordnungen und befolgt sie.
I am the Lord your God: Walk in My statutes, keep My judgments, and do them;
Sorgt dafür, dass der Sabbat ein heiliger Ruhetag bleibt als Zeichen für den Bund zwischen mir und euch. Dieser Tag soll euch daran erinnern, dass ich der HERR, euer Gott, bin.‹
hallow My Sabbaths, and they will be a sign between Me and you, that you may know that I am the Lord your God.’
Doch auch die Kinder lehnten sich gegen mich auf. Sie hielten sich nicht an meine Gebote, sie schlugen meine Weisungen in den Wind, die jedem Leben bringen, der sie befolgt. Auch den Sabbat achteten sie nicht als heiligen Tag. Da wollte ich meinen Zorn endgültig an ihnen auslassen, dort in der Wüste sollten sie ihn mit ganzer Härte zu spüren bekommen.
“Notwithstanding, the children rebelled against Me; they did not walk in My statutes, and were not careful to observe My judgments, ‘which, if a man does, he shall live by them’; but they profaned My Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out My fury on them and fulfill My anger against them in the wilderness.
Aber wieder hielt ich mich zurück und tat es nicht, denn sonst wäre mein Name zum Gespött geworden bei allen Völkern, vor deren Augen ich die Israeliten aus Ägypten herausgeführt hatte.
Ich erhob jedoch meine Hand zum Schwur und sagte: ›Ich werde euch unter die Völker zerstreuen und in fremde Länder vertreiben.
Also I raised My hand in an oath to those in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the Gentiles and disperse them throughout the countries,
Denn ihr habt nicht nach meinen Ordnungen gelebt, ihr habt meine Gebote missachtet und den Sabbat entweiht. Statt mir zu gehorchen, habt ihr die Götzen angebetet, hinter denen schon eure Vorfahren her waren.‹
because they had not executed My judgments, but had despised My statutes, profaned My Sabbaths, and their eyes were fixed on their fathers’ idols.
Und so überließ ich ihnen Gebote, die nicht gut waren, und Ordnungen, die kein Leben bringen.
“Therefore I also gave them up to statutes that were not good, and judgments by which they could not live;
Ich ließ sogar zu, dass sie ihre ältesten Söhne als Opfer verbrannten und sich auf solch schlimme Weise verunreinigten. Dadurch sollten sie erschrecken und erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin.«
Weiter sprach der Herr zu mir: »Du Mensch, richte dem Volk Israel noch etwas aus! Sag ihnen: Eure Vorfahren haben sich noch mehr einfallen lassen, um mich, Gott, den HERRN, zu verhöhnen und mir untreu zu werden:
“Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel, and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “In this too your fathers have blasphemed Me, by being unfaithful to Me.
Ich hatte geschworen, ihnen das Land zu geben. Doch als ich sie dorthin geführt hatte, begannen sie, auf jedem Hügel und unter jedem dicht belaubten Baum ihren Götzen zu opfern. Sie meinten, sie könnten die Götter für sich gewinnen, indem sie wohlriechende Opfer für sie verbrannten und Wein als Trankopfer ausgossen. Doch sie erreichten nichts anderes, als mich dadurch zum Zorn zu reizen!
When I brought them into the land concerning which I had raised My hand in an oath to give them, and they saw all the high hills and all the thick trees, there they offered their sacrifices and provoked Me with their offerings. There they also sent up their sweet aroma and poured out their drink offerings.
Ich stellte sie zur Rede: ›Was sind das für Stätten, zu denen ihr da lauft, um euren Götzen zu opfern?‹ Darum heißen diese Orte bis heute ›Opferstätten‹.
Ich, Gott, der HERR, frage euch Israeliten: Wollt ihr euch genauso unrein machen wie eure Vorfahren, die mir die Treue brachen und sich mit anderen Göttern einließen?
Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Are you defiling yourselves in the manner of your fathers, and committing harlotry according to their abominations?
Wenn ihr anderen Göttern Opfer bringt und für sie eure Kinder verbrennt, dann ladet ihr bis zum heutigen Tag Schuld auf euch. Und da sollte ich mich von euch befragen lassen, ihr vom Volk Israel? Ich, Gott, der HERR, schwöre, so wahr ich lebe: Von mir bekommt ihr keine Antwort!«
For when you offer your gifts and make your sons pass through the fire, you defile yourselves with all your idols, even to this day. So shall I be inquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live,” says the Lord God, “I will not be inquired of by you.
»Was habt ihr euch da ausgedacht? Ihr habt gesagt: ›Wir wollen wie die anderen Völker sein, die Götter aus Holz und Stein anbeten!‹ Doch das wird niemals geschehen!
What you have in your mind shall never be, when you say, ‘We will be like the Gentiles, like the families in other countries, serving wood and stone.’
Ich, Gott, der HERR, schwöre, so wahr ich lebe: Mit starker Hand und mit erhobenem Arm werde ich als König über euch herrschen und meinen Zorn an euch auslassen.
God Will Restore Israel
“As I live,” says the Lord God, “surely with a mighty hand, with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out, I will rule over you.
“As I live,” says the Lord God, “surely with a mighty hand, with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out, I will rule over you.
Ich zeige euch meine große Macht, wenn ich euch aus allen Ländern heraushole, in die ihr zerstreut wurdet.
I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you are scattered, with a mighty hand, with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out.
Ich bringe euch in die Wüste, fern von allen Völkern, und dort trete ich euch von Angesicht zu Angesicht gegenüber, um euch zu richten.
And I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there I will plead My case with you face to face.
Wie ich euren Vorfahren in der Wüste Ägyptens das Urteil gesprochen habe, so werde ich es auch über euch verhängen. Darauf könnt ihr euch verlassen!
Just as I pleaded My case with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will plead My case with you,” says the Lord God.
Ich nehme euch in die Pflicht, euch an den Bund zu halten, den ich mit euch geschlossen habe. Wie ein Hirte die Schafe unter seinem Stab hindurchziehen lässt, um sie zu zählen und aufzuteilen, so gehe ich mit euch um:
“I will make you pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant;
Alle, die sich gegen mich aufgelehnt und mir die Treue gebrochen haben, sondere ich aus. Zwar führe ich auch sie heraus aus den fremden Ländern, in denen sie leben mussten, aber nach Israel werden sie nicht zurückkommen. Daran sollt ihr erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin.
I will purge the rebels from among you, and those who transgress against Me; I will bring them out of the country where they dwell, but they shall not enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord.
Ich sage euch Israeliten: Dient doch euren Götzen, wenn ihr unbedingt wollt! Früher oder später werdet ihr ganz sicher auf mich hören und meinen heiligen Namen nicht mehr in den Schmutz ziehen durch die Opfer, die ihr euren Götzen darbringt!
“As for you, O house of Israel,” thus says the Lord God: “Go, serve every one of you his idols — and hereafter — if you will not obey Me; but profane My holy name no more with your gifts and your idols.
Denn auf Israels erhabenstem Berg, dem heiligen Berg Zion, werdet ihr alle mir dienen. Ich werde euch wieder annehmen und gerne nach euren Opfern verlangen. Ja, ihr sollt mir wieder den ersten Teil eurer Ernte und alle anderen Gaben bringen, die mir geweiht sind.
Mehr noch: Ihr selbst werdet dann wie ein wohlriechendes Opfer für mich sein. Ich nehme euch wieder in Liebe als mein Volk an, wenn ich euch aus den Ländern herausführe, in die ihr zerstreut wurdet, und euch in Israel sammle. An euch sollen alle Völker sehen, dass ich der heilige Gott bin.
I will accept you as a sweet aroma when I bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you have been scattered; and I will be hallowed in you before the Gentiles.
Und auch ihr sollt erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin, wenn ich euch nach Israel zurückbringe, in das Land, das ich euren Vorfahren mit einem Eid versprochen habe.
Then you shall know that I am the Lord, when I bring you into the land of Israel, into the country for which I raised My hand in an oath to give to your fathers.
Dann werdet ihr euch daran erinnern, wie falsch eure Wege waren und wie sehr ihr euch durch sie verunreinigt habt. Wegen eurer schlechten Taten werdet ihr euch selber verabscheuen.
Doch hört, ihr Israeliten! Ich will euch wieder annehmen und euch nicht strafen, wie ihr es für eure Sünden verdient hättet. Denn ich möchte, dass mein Name geehrt wird. Ja, ihr sollt erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin. Mein Wort gilt!«
Then you shall know that I am the Lord, when I have dealt with you for My name’s sake, not according to your wicked ways nor according to your corrupt doings, O house of Israel,” says the Lord God.’ ”
