Im 10. Jahr unserer Verbannung, am 12. Tag des 10. Monats, empfing ich eine Botschaft vom HERRN. Er forderte mich auf:
Proclamation Against Egypt
In the tenth year, in the tenth month, on the twelfth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

»Du Mensch, blick in die Richtung, wo der Pharao, der König von Ägypten, lebt, und kündige ihm und ganz Ägypten mein Gericht an!
“Son of man, set your face against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and prophesy against him, and against all Egypt.
Ich, Gott, der HERR, sage ihm: Pharao, du König von Ägypten, jetzt bekommst du es mit mir zu tun! Du gleichst einem gewaltigen Krokodil, das mitten im Nil liegt und sagt: ›Der Fluss gehört mir, ich selbst habe ihn geschaffen.‹
Doch ich werde Haken durch deine Kinnlade bohren und dafür sorgen, dass sich die Fische in deinem Schuppenpanzer verfangen. Dann ziehe ich euch allesamt aus dem Wasser,
But I will put hooks in your jaws,
And cause the fish of your rivers to stick to your scales;
I will bring you up out of the midst of your rivers,

ich schleudere euch in die Wüste und lasse euch im Sand liegen. Niemand wird euch aufheben und begraben, sondern ihr werdet ein Fraß sein für die wilden Tiere und für die Vögel.
Daran sollen alle Bewohner deines Landes erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin. Ägypten, du hast die Israeliten glauben lassen, eine Stütze für sie zu sein. Doch in Wahrheit bist du nur ein dünner Stab aus Schilfrohr:

Wenn sie sich auf dich stützen, zerbrichst du, lässt sie hinfallen und durchbohrst ihnen auch noch die Schulter!
Darum sage ich, Gott, der HERR: Ich sorge dafür, dass deine Feinde mit dem Schwert über dich herfallen und Mensch und Vieh in dir ausrotten.
‘Therefore thus says the Lord God: “Surely I will bring a sword upon you and cut off from you man and beast.
Sie werden deine Städte in Trümmer legen und das ganze Land zu einer menschenleeren Wüste machen. Dann sollst du erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin. Pharao, du König von Ägypten, du behauptest: ›Der Nil gehört mir, ich selbst habe ihn geschaffen!‹
And the land of Egypt shall become desolate and waste; then they will know that I am the Lord, because he said, ‘The River is mine, and I have made it.’
Darum bekommen du und dein Fluss meine Macht zu spüren. Das ganze Land mache ich zu einem einzigen Trümmerfeld, zu einer trostlosen Wüste, von Migdol im Norden bis nach Syene im Süden und bis an die äthiopische Grenze.
Vierzig Jahre lang wird niemand diese Wüste durchqueren — weder Menschen noch Tiere werden dort leben.
Neither foot of man shall pass through it nor foot of beast pass through it, and it shall be uninhabited forty years.
Ägypten, du wirst schlimmer verwüstet als jedes andere Land auf der Welt. Dafür sorge ich! Vierzig Jahre lang werden deine Städte Ruinenfelder sein, größer als die aller anderen zerstörten Städte. Und deine Bewohner werde ich in aller Herren Länder zerstreuen.
I will make the land of Egypt desolate in the midst of the countries that are desolate; and among the cities that are laid waste, her cities shall be desolate forty years; and I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them throughout the countries.”
Doch ich, Gott, der HERR, kündige euch an: Nach vierzig Jahren werde ich die Ägypter wieder aus den Völkern zurückbringen, zu denen sie vertrieben wurden.
‘Yet, thus says the Lord God: “At the end of forty years I will gather the Egyptians from the peoples among whom they were scattered.
Ja, ich wende ihr Schicksal wieder zum Guten. In Oberägypten sollen sie wohnen, wo sie ursprünglich herstammen. Dort werden sie ein kleines Königreich bilden,
I will bring back the captives of Egypt and cause them to return to the land of Pathros, to the land of their origin, and there they shall be a lowly kingdom.
unbedeutender als alle anderen Königreiche. Ich sorge dafür, dass ihre Zahl gering bleibt, damit sie nie mehr über andere Länder herrschen können.
It shall be the lowliest of kingdoms; it shall never again exalt itself above the nations, for I will diminish them so that they will not rule over the nations anymore.
Nie wieder sollen sie Israel dazu verführen, ihr Vertrauen auf Ägypten zu setzen, sondern sie sollen als warnendes Beispiel für die Zukunft dienen. Denn als Israel sich mit ihnen einließ, hat es große Schuld auf sich geladen. Daran soll man erkennen, dass ich Gott, der HERR, bin.«
No longer shall it be the confidence of the house of Israel, but will remind them of their iniquity when they turned to follow them. Then they shall know that I am the Lord God.” ’ ”
Im 27. Jahr unserer Verbannung, am 1. Tag des 1. Monats, empfing ich wieder eine Botschaft vom HERRN. Er sprach zu mir:
Babylonia Will Plunder Egypt
And it came to pass in the twenty-seventh year, in the first month, on the first day of the month, that the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

»Du Mensch, Nebukadnezar, der König von Babylonien, ließ seine Soldaten hart arbeiten, als er die Stadt Tyrus belagerte. Sie mussten so schwere Lasten schleppen, dass ihre Köpfe kahl gescheuert und ihre Schultern zerschunden waren. Aber in Tyrus gab es weder für ihn noch für sein Heer einen Lohn für ihre Mühe.
“Son of man, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon caused his army to labor strenuously against Tyre; every head was made bald, and every shoulder rubbed raw; yet neither he nor his army received wages from Tyre, for the labor which they expended on it.
Darum sage ich, Gott, der HERR: Seht her, ich gebe Nebukadnezar das Land Ägypten. Er wird die Schätze wegtragen, das Land ausplündern und reiche Beute machen, mit der er seine Soldaten bezahlen kann.
Therefore thus says the Lord God: ‘Surely I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; he shall take away her wealth, carry off her spoil, and remove her pillage; and that will be the wages for his army.
Weil Nebukadnezar in meinem Auftrag gehandelt hat, überlasse ich ihm Ägypten als Lohn für seine Mühe. Darauf gebe ich, Gott, der HERR, mein Wort.
I have given him the land of Egypt for his labor, because they worked for Me,’ says the Lord God.
Wenn dies geschieht, werde ich Israel wieder Macht verleihen. Und dir, Hesekiel, gebe ich neuen Mut, als mein Prophet zum Volk zu sprechen. Dann werden sie erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin.«
