Im selben Regierungsjahr des Königs Darius, am 21. Tag des 7. Monats, empfing Haggai vom HERRN diese Botschaft:
The Builders Encouraged
On the twenty-first of the seventh month, the word of the LORD came by Haggai the prophet saying,

»Sag dem königlichen Bevollmächtigten Serubbabel, dem Sohn von Schealtiël, sowie dem Hohenpriester Jeschua, dem Sohn von Jozadak, und dem ganzen Volk:
“Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people saying,
Wer von euch kann sich noch daran erinnern, wie prächtig der Tempel vor seiner Zerstörung war? Und was seht ihr jetzt an seiner Stelle entstehen? Ihr meint, es wäre im Vergleich dazu nichts!
‘Who is left among you who saw this temple in its former glory? And how do you see it now? Does it not seem to you like nothing in comparison?
Aber ich, der HERR, sage: Lasst den Mut nicht sinken, Serubbabel und Jeschua! Und ihr Menschen von Juda, seid stark und arbeitet weiter! Denn ich, der HERR, der allmächtige Gott, stehe euch bei.
‘But now take courage, Zerubbabel,’ declares the LORD, ‘take courage also, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and all you people of the land take courage,’ declares the LORD, ‘and work; for I am with you,’ declares the LORD of hosts.
Ich halte, was ich euren Vorfahren versprochen habe, als sie aus Ägypten zogen. Mein Geist bleibt mitten unter euch. Habt also keine Angst!
‘As for the promise which I made you when you came out of Egypt, My Spirit is abiding in your midst; do not fear!’
Ich, der HERR, der allmächtige Gott, sage euch: Schon bald werde ich noch einmal die ganze Welt erschüttern, Himmel und Erde, Land und Meer;
“For thus says the LORD of hosts, ‘Once more in a little while, I am going to shake the heavens and the earth, the sea also and the dry land.
alle Völker werden davon betroffen sein. Sie bringen ihre Reichtümer hierher zum Tempel. Ja, ich sorge dafür, dass mein Haus wieder mit herrlichen Schätzen ausgestattet wird.
‘I will shake all the nations; and they will come with the wealth of all nations, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the LORD of hosts.
Denn mir, dem HERRN, dem allmächtigen Gott, gehört alles Silber und Gold.
‘The silver is Mine and the gold is Mine,’ declares the LORD of hosts.
Der neue Tempel wird den früheren weit in den Schatten stellen, so prachtvoll wird er sein! An dieser Stätte werde ich Frieden und Heil schenken. Das verspreche ich, der HERR, der allmächtige Gott!«
‘The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former,’ says the LORD of hosts, ‘and in this place I will give peace,’ declares the LORD of hosts.”
Im 2. Regierungsjahr des Königs Darius, am 24. Tag des 9. Monats, empfing der Prophet Haggai eine weitere Botschaft vom HERRN. Gott sagte zu ihm:
On the twenty-fourth of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came to Haggai the prophet, saying,
»So spricht der HERR, der allmächtige Gott: Bitte die Priester um eine Weisung. Frage sie:
“Thus says the LORD of hosts, ‘Ask now the priests for a ruling:
›Angenommen ein Mann trägt in seinem Gewand ein Stück Fleisch bei sich, das Gott geweiht ist. Wenn er nun mit diesem Gewand Brot oder etwas Gekochtes, Wein, Öl oder ein anderes Nahrungsmittel berührt — wird dieses dann ebenfalls heilig?‹« Haggai fragte die Priester und bekam zur Antwort: »Nein, das wird es nicht.«
‘If a man carries holy meat in the fold of his garment, and touches bread with this fold, or cooked food, wine, oil, or any other food, will it become holy?’” And the priests answered, “No.”
Dann fragte er weiter: »Wenn aber jemand durch die Berührung mit einer Leiche unrein wurde und dann eines dieser Nahrungsmittel berührt — wird in diesem Fall das Berührte genauso unrein?« Die Priester antworteten: »Ja, das wird es.«
Then Haggai said, “If one who is unclean from a corpse touches any of these, will the latter become unclean?” And the priests answered, “It will become unclean.”
Da sagte Haggai: »So spricht der HERR: Genau dasselbe gilt für euer Volk! Alles, was ihr tut, ist unrein in meinen Augen, und darum sind es auch die Opfer, die ihr mir darbringt!
Then Haggai said, “ ‘So is this people. And so is this nation before Me,’ declares the LORD, ‘and so is every work of their hands; and what they offer there is unclean.
Doch von heute an sollt ihr den Blick nach vorne richten. Bevor ihr begonnen habt, die Mauern meines Tempels wieder aufzubauen,
‘But now, do consider from this day onward: before one stone was placed on another in the temple of the LORD,
wolltet ihr von einem Feld zwanzig Sack Getreide ernten, aber es wurden nur zehn. Ein Weinberg sollte fünfzig Krüge Wein bringen, aber schließlich waren es nur zwanzig.
from that time when one came to a grain heap of twenty measures, there would be only ten; and when one came to the wine vat to draw fifty measures, there would be only twenty.
Ich schickte euch Hagel, ließ euer Getreide verdorren und verschimmeln und machte so all eure Mühe zunichte. Trotzdem seid ihr nicht zu mir, dem HERRN, zurückgekehrt.
‘I smote you and every work of your hands with blasting wind, mildew and hail; yet you did not come back to Me,’ declares the LORD.
Doch heute, am 24. Tag des 9. Monats, wurde das Fundament für meinen Tempel fertig; ab jetzt dürft ihr hoffnungsvoll in die Zukunft blicken.
‘Do consider from this day onward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month; from the day when the temple of the LORD was founded, consider:
Zwar sind eure Vorratsspeicher leer, und eure Weinberge, eure Feigen-, Granatapfel- und Olivenbäume haben noch keine Erträge gebracht. Doch von heute an will ich euch und euer Land wieder segnen!«
‘Is the seed still in the barn? Even including the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate and the olive tree, it has not borne fruit. Yet from this day on I will bless you.’”
Am selben Tag empfing Haggai noch eine zweite Botschaft vom HERRN:
Then the word of the LORD came a second time to Haggai on the twenty-fourth day of the month, saying,
»Sag zu Serubbabel, dem königlichen Bevollmächtigten für die persische Provinz Juda: Ich werde den Himmel und die Erde erschüttern.
“Speak to Zerubbabel governor of Judah, saying, ‘I am going to shake the heavens and the earth.
Die Throne der Könige stoße ich um und breche die Macht der Völker. Ich stürze die Streitwagen mitsamt ihren Wagenlenkern um, zu Boden sinken Pferde und Reiter, und ein Soldat sticht den anderen nieder.
‘I will overthrow the thrones of kingdoms and destroy the power of the kingdoms of the nations; and I will overthrow the chariots and their riders, and the horses and their riders will go down, everyone by the sword of another.’
An jenem Tag setze ich dich, Serubbabel, du Sohn von Schealtiël, zu meinem Bevollmächtigten ein. Ja, ich mache dich, meinen Diener, zu meinem Siegelring, denn ich habe dich erwählt. Darauf gebe ich, der HERR, der allmächtige Gott, mein Wort!«
‘On that day,’ declares the LORD of hosts, ‘I will take you, Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, My servant,’ declares the LORD, ‘and I will make you like a signet ring, for I have chosen you,’” declares the LORD of hosts.
