Im 2. Regierungsjahr des persischen Königs Darius, im 8. Monat, empfing der Prophet Sacharja, der Sohn von Berechja und Enkel von Iddo, eine Botschaft vom HERRN. Gott sprach zu ihm:
A Call to Repentance
In the eighth month of the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came to Zechariah the prophet, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo saying,

»Ich, der HERR, war voller Zorn über eure Vorfahren und musste sie hart bestrafen.
“The LORD was very angry with your fathers.
Darum richte dem Volk von mir, dem allmächtigen Gott, aus: Kehrt um, kommt zu mir zurück! Dann wende auch ich mich euch wieder zu. Denn ich bin der HERR, und mein Wort gilt!
“Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts, “Return to Me,” declares the LORD of hosts, “that I may return to you,” says the LORD of hosts.
Seid nicht wie eure Vorfahren, die nicht auf mich hören wollten, als ich ihnen durch die Propheten zurufen ließ: ›So spricht der HERR, der allmächtige Gott: Kehrt um von euren falschen Wegen; hört endlich auf, Böses zu tun!‹ Sie schenkten meinen Worten keine Beachtung.
“Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts, “Return now from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.”’ But they did not listen or give heed to Me,” declares the LORD.
Und wo sind sie nun? Eure Vorfahren sind längst gestorben, und auch die Propheten leben nicht mehr.
“Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever?
Doch was ich durch meine Diener, die Propheten, ankündigen ließ, das hat sich an euren Vorfahren erfüllt. Da kehrten sie von ihren falschen Wegen um und gaben zu: ›Der HERR, der allmächtige Gott, hat uns für unsere Taten bestraft, genau wie er es angedroht hatte.‹«
“But did not My words and My statutes, which I commanded My servants the prophets, overtake your fathers? Then they repented and said, ‘As the LORD of hosts purposed to do to us in accordance with our ways and our deeds, so He has dealt with us.’”’”
Im 2. Regierungsjahr des Königs Darius, am 24. Tag des 11. Monats, des Monats Schebat, empfing der Prophet Sacharja, der Sohn von Berechja und Enkel von Iddo, wieder eine Botschaft vom HERRN. Er berichtet:
Patrol of the Earth
On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came to Zechariah the prophet, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, as follows:
In jener Nacht hatte ich eine Vision. Ich sah einen Mann auf einem rotbraunen Pferd, der zwischen den Myrtensträuchern im Tal Halt machte. Hinter ihm waren noch andere Reiter auf rotbraunen, fuchsroten und weißen Pferden.
I saw at night, and behold, a man was riding on a red horse, and he was standing among the myrtle trees which were in the ravine, with red, sorrel and white horses behind him.
»Mein Herr, wer sind diese Reiter?«, fragte ich den Engel, der mir alles erklären sollte. Er antwortete: »Das wirst du gleich erfahren.«
Then I said, “My lord, what are these?” And the angel who was speaking with me said to me, “I will show you what these are.”
Da sagte der Mann, der zwischen den Myrtensträuchern gehalten hatte: »Diese Reiter hat Gott, der HERR, ausgesandt, um durch alle Länder der Welt zu ziehen.«
And the man who was standing among the myrtle trees answered and said, “These are those whom the LORD has sent to patrol the earth.”
Nun wandten sich die Reiter an den Engel des HERRN, der zwischen den Myrtensträuchern stand, und berichteten: »Wir haben die ganze Erde durchstreift, und überall herrscht Ruhe.«
So they answered the angel of the LORD who was standing among the myrtle trees and said, “We have patrolled the earth, and behold, all the earth is peaceful and quiet.”
Da rief der Engel des HERRN: »HERR, du allmächtiger Gott, wie lange soll das noch so weitergehen? Wann endlich hast du Erbarmen mit den Menschen in Jerusalem und in den anderen Städten Judas? Schon siebzig Jahre lang lastet dein Zorn auf ihnen!«
Then the angel of the LORD said, “O LORD of hosts, how long will You have no compassion for Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, with which You have been indignant these seventy years?”
Der HERR antwortete dem Engel, mit dem ich geredet hatte. Er tröstete ihn und machte ihm Mut.
The LORD answered the angel who was speaking with me with gracious words, comforting words.
Dann wandte sich der Engel wieder an mich und befahl: »Verkünde den Menschen: ›So spricht der HERR, der allmächtige Gott: Meine Liebe zu Jerusalem und zum Berg Zion ist ungebrochen; voller Leidenschaft werde ich mich wieder für sie einsetzen.
So the angel who was speaking with me said to me, “Proclaim, saying, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts, “I am exceedingly jealous for Jerusalem and Zion.
Doch die Völker, die sich jetzt noch so sicher fühlen, werden meinen gewaltigen Zorn zu spüren bekommen. Ich wollte mein Volk bloß eine kurze Zeit lang bestrafen, doch sie haben es ganz ins Unglück gestürzt.
“But I am very angry with the nations who are at ease; for while I was only a little angry, they furthered the disaster.”
Darum will ich Erbarmen haben und mich Jerusalem aufs Neue zuwenden. Mein Tempel soll wieder aufgebaut werden, ja, die ganze Stadt soll neu erstehen. Das verspreche ich, der HERR, der allmächtige Gott!‹
‘Therefore thus says the LORD, “I will return to Jerusalem with compassion; My house will be built in it,” declares the LORD of hosts, “and a measuring line will be stretched over Jerusalem.”’
Und auch das sollst du verkünden: ›Mit lauter Gutem werde ich mein Volk beschenken; in ihren Städten soll es an nichts fehlen. Zion werde ich trösten, und Jerusalem wird wieder meine auserwählte Stadt sein. Mein Wort gilt, denn ich bin der HERR, der allmächtige Gott!‹«
“Again, proclaim, saying, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts, “My cities will again overflow with prosperity, and the LORD will again comfort Zion and again choose Jerusalem.”’”
