Damals gab es im ganzen Land Israel keinen einzigen Schmied. Die Philister wollten nämlich verhindern, dass sich die Israeliten Schwerter und Speere herstellten.

Es ward aber kein Schmied im ganzen Lande Israel gefunden; denn die Philister gedachten, die Hebräer möchten Schwert und Spieß machen;

Damals war im ganzen Land kein Schmied zu finden. Denn die Philister hatten sich gesagt: Die Hebräer sollen sich keine Schwerter und Lanzen machen können.

Now there was no smith found throughout all the land of Israel: for the Philistines said, Lest the Hebrews make them swords or spears: -
