Und wenn die Leute an demselben Ort fragten nach seinem Weibe, so sprach er: Sie ist meine Schwester. Denn er fürchtete sich zu sagen: Sie ist mein Weib; sie möchten mich erwürgen um Rebekkas willen, denn sie war schön von Angesicht.

Als die Männer aus der Stadt Rebekka sahen und sich nach ihr erkundigten, sagte er: »Sie ist meine Schwester.« Er hatte Angst, ihnen die Wahrheit zu sagen, denn er dachte: »Rebekka ist sehr schön. Am Ende töten die Männer mich, nur um sie zu bekommen!«

Als sich die Männer des Ortes nach seiner Frau erkundigten, sagte er: Sie ist meine Schwester. Denn er fürchtete sich zu sagen: Sie ist meine Frau. Er dachte: Damit mich die Männer des Ortes nicht wegen Rebekka umbringen, denn sie sah schön aus.
