Und ob Edom sprechen würde: Wir sind verderbt, aber wir wollen das Wüste wieder erbauen! so spricht der HERR Zebaoth also: Werden sie bauen, so will ich abbrechen, und es soll heißen die verdammte Grenze und ein Volk, über das der HERR zürnt ewiglich.

Wenn die Edomiter sagen: ›Unsere Städte liegen in Trümmern, aber wir bauen sie wieder auf‹, dann entgegne ich, der HERR, der allmächtige Gott: ›Baut nur — ich werde alles wieder einreißen!‹ Ja, man wird ihr Gebiet ›Land der Gottlosigkeit‹ nennen und sie selbst ›Volk, auf dem für alle Zeiten Gottes Fluch lastet‹.

Wenn Edom sagt: Wir sind zerschmettert, aber wir bauen die Trümmer wieder auf, so spricht der HERR der Heerscharen: Sie sollen nur aufbauen; ich reiße es wieder ein. Man wird sie das Land des Unrechts nennen und das Volk, das der HERR ewig verdammt.
