Auch die Hebräer, die bisher bei den Philistern gewesen waren und mit ihnen im Lager hinaufgezogen waren umher, taten sich zu denen von Israel, die mit Saul und Jonathan waren.

Schon lange hatten die Philister Israeliten als Söldner in ihr Heer aufgenommen. Viele waren auch jetzt mit den Philistern in die Schlacht gezogen. Nun liefen sie zu ihren Landsleuten unter Sauls und Jonatans Führung über.

Auch die Hebräer, die bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt auf Seiten der Philister gestanden und mit ihnen in den Krieg gezogen waren, wandten sich ab, um auf Seiten Israels zu sein, das zu Saul und Jonatan hielt.
