Then the king arose in the night and said to his servants, “I will now tell you what the Arameans have done to us. They know that we are hungry; therefore they have gone from the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, ‘When they come out of the city, we will capture them alive and get into the city.’”

They know that we be hungry; therefore are they gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall catch them alive, and get into the city.

Israel Plunders the Camp
The king got out of bed in the middle of the night and told his officers, “I know what has happened. The Arameans know we are starving, so they have left their camp and have hidden in the fields. They are expecting us to leave the city, and then they will take us alive and capture the city.” -

Und der König stand auf in der Nacht und sprach zu seinen Knechten: Laßt euch sagen, wie die Syrer mit uns umgehen. Sie wissen, daß wir Hunger leiden, und sind aus dem Lager gegangen, daß sie sich im Felde verkröchen, und denken: Wenn sie aus der Stadt gehen, wollen wir sie lebendig greifen und in die Stadt kommen.

Obwohl es mitten in der Nacht war, stand König Joram auf und ließ seine Berater zu sich kommen. »Ich kann euch sagen, was die Syrer vorhaben«, begann der König. »Sie haben längst gemerkt, dass wir am Verhungern sind. Nun haben sie sich aus dem Lager zurückgezogen und sich in einem Hinterhalt versteckt. Sobald wir aus der Stadt herauskommen, wollen sie uns alle gefangen nehmen, um dann mühelos die Stadt zu erobern.«

Noch in der Nacht stand der König auf und sagte zu seinen Leuten: Ich will euch erklären, was die Aramäer gegen uns planen. Sie wissen, dass wir Hunger leiden, und haben das Lager nur verlassen, um sich auf dem freien Feld zu verstecken mit dem Hintergedanken: Wenn sie die Stadt verlassen, nehmen wir sie lebendig gefangen und dringen in die Stadt ein.
