He saw a well in the distance. Three flocks of sheep and goats lay in an open field beside it, waiting to be watered. But a heavy stone covered the mouth of the well.

And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone was upon the well's mouth.

Eines Tages erreichte er einen Brunnen mitten in der Steppe. Die Hirten dieser Gegend tränkten daraus ihre Schafe und Ziegen. Schon drei Herden lagerten bei dem Brunnen, aber der große Stein auf dem Brunnenloch war noch nicht weggeschoben worden. Es war üblich, dass man so lange wartete, bis alle Hirten mit ihrem Vieh da waren; dann erst wälzten die Hirten gemeinsam den Stein vom Loch, tränkten das Vieh und verschlossen die Brunnenöffnung wieder mit dem Stein.

Als er aufsah, siehe, da war ein Brunnen auf freiem Feld. Und siehe, da lagerten drei Herden von Schafen und Ziegen; denn aus dem Brunnen tränkte man die Herden. Ein großer Stein lag über der Brunnenöffnung.
