New Living Bible Translation
The person who made the idol never stops to reflect,
“Why, it’s just a block of wood!
I burned half of it for heat
and used it to bake my bread and roast my meat.
How can the rest of it be a god?
Should I bow down to worship a piece of wood?”

And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?

Keiner denkt einmal gründlich nach und sagt sich: ›Einen guten Teil des Baums habe ich zu Brennholz zerhackt. Über der Glut habe ich Brot gebacken, ich habe Fleisch gebraten und mich satt gegessen. Aus dem restlichen Holz schnitze ich nun so etwas Abscheuliches! Dieser Holzklotz soll mein Gott sein, vor dem ich mich niederwerfe?‹ Würde einer von ihnen einmal so weit denken, dann sähe er den Widersinn ein.

Sie überlegen nichts, sie haben keine Erkenntnis und Einsicht, sodass sie sich sagen würden: Den einen Teil habe ich ins Feuer geworfen, habe Brot in der Glut gebacken und Fleisch gebraten und es gegessen. Aus dem Rest des Holzes aber habe ich mir einen abscheulichen Götzen gemacht und nun beuge ich mich nieder vor einem Holzklotz.
