Moab Rebels Against Israel
In the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Ahab became king over Israel in Samaria, and he reigned twelve years.

Joram, der Sohn Ahabs, ward König über Israel zu Samaria im 18. Jahr Josaphats, des Königs Juda’s, und regierte zwölf Jahre.
He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, though not like his father and mother, for he put away the pillar of Baal that his father had made.
Und er tat, was dem HERRN übel gefiel; doch nicht wie sein Vater und seine Mutter. Denn er tat weg die Säule Baals, die sein Vater machen ließ.
Nevertheless, he clung to the sin of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel to sin; he did not depart from it.
Aber er blieb hangen an den Sünden Jerobeams, des Sohnes Nebats, der Israel sündigen machte, und ließ nicht davon.
Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheep breeder, and he had to deliver to the king of Israel 100,000 lambs and the wool of 100,000 rams.
Mesa aber, der Moabiter König, hatte viele Schafe und zinste dem König Israels Wolle von 100,000 Lämmern und 100,000 Widdern.
But when Ahab died, the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.
Da aber Ahab tot war, fiel der Moabiter König ab vom König Israels.
So King Jehoram marched out of Samaria at that time and mustered all Israel.
Da zog zur selben Zeit aus der König Joram von Samaria und ordnete das ganze Israel
And he went and sent word to Jehoshaphat king of Judah: “The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me to battle against Moab?” And he said, “I will go. I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.”
und sandte hin zu Josaphat, dem König Juda’s, und ließ ihm sagen: Der Moabiter König ist von mir abgefallen; komm mit mir, zu streiten wider die Moabiter! Er sprach: Ich will hinaufkommen; ich bin wie du, und mein Volk wie dein Volk, und meine Rosse wie deine Rosse.
Then he said, “By which way shall we march?” Jehoram answered, “By the way of the wilderness of Edom.”
Und er sprach: Welchen Weg wollen wir hinaufziehen? Er sprach: Den Weg durch die Wüste Edom.
So the king of Israel went with the king of Judah and the king of Edom. And when they had made a circuitous march of seven days, there was no water for the army or for the animals that followed them.
Also zog hin der König Israels, der König Juda’s und der König Edoms. Und da sie sieben Tagereisen zogen, hatte das Heer und das Vieh, das unter ihnen war, kein Wasser.
Then the king of Israel said, “Alas! The Lord has called these three kings to give them into the hand of Moab.”
Da sprach der König Israels: O wehe! der HERR hat diese drei Könige geladen, daß er sie in der Moabiter Hände gebe.
And Jehoshaphat said, “Is there no prophet of the Lord here, through whom we may inquire of the Lord?” Then one of the king of Israel’s servants answered, “Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who poured water on the hands of Elijah.”
Josaphat aber sprach: Ist kein Prophet des HERRN hier, daß wir den HERRN durch ihn ratfragen? Da antwortete einer unter den Knechten des Königs Israels und sprach: Hier ist Elisa, der Sohn Saphats, der Elia Wasser auf die Hände goß.
And Jehoshaphat said, “The word of the Lord is with him.” So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.
Josaphat sprach: Des HERRN Wort ist bei ihm. Also zogen sie zu ihm hinab der König Israels und Josaphat und der König Edoms.
And Elisha said to the king of Israel, “What have I to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father and to the prophets of your mother.” But the king of Israel said to him, “No; it is the Lord who has called these three kings to give them into the hand of Moab.”
Elisa aber sprach zum König Israels: Was hast du mit mir zu schaffen? gehe hin zu den Propheten deines Vaters und zu den Propheten deiner Mutter! Der König Israels sprach zu ihm: Nein! denn der HERR hat diese drei Könige geladen, daß er sie in der Moabiter Hände gebe.
And Elisha said, “As the Lord of hosts lives, before whom I stand, were it not that I have regard for Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would neither look at you nor see you.
Elisa sprach: So wahr der HERR Zebaoth lebt, vor dem ich stehe, wenn ich nicht Josaphat, den König Juda’s, ansähe, ich wollte dich nicht ansehen noch achten.
But now bring me a musician.” And when the musician played, the hand of the Lord came upon him.
So bringet mir nun einen Spielmann! Und da der Spielmann auf den Saiten spielte, kam die Hand des HERRN auf ihn,
And he said, “Thus says the Lord, ‘I will make this dry streambed full of pools.’
und er sprach: So spricht der HERR: Macht hier und da Gräben an diesem Bach!
For thus says the Lord, ‘You shall not see wind or rain, but that streambed shall be filled with water, so that you shall drink, you, your livestock, and your animals.’
Denn so spricht der HERR: Ihr werdet keinen Wind noch Regen sehen; dennoch soll der Bach voll Wasser werden, daß ihr und euer Gesinde und euer Vieh trinket.
This is a light thing in the sight of the Lord. He will also give the Moabites into your hand,
Dazu ist das ein Geringes vor dem HERRN; er wird auch die Moabiter in eure Hände geben,
and you shall attack every fortified city and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree and stop up all springs of water and ruin every good piece of land with stones.”
daß ihr schlagen werdet alle festen Städte und alle auserwählten Städte und werdet fällen alle guten Bäume und werdet verstopfen alle Wasserbrunnen und werdet allen guten Acker mit Steinen verderben.
The next morning, about the time of offering the sacrifice, behold, water came from the direction of Edom, till the country was filled with water.
Des Morgens aber, zur Zeit, da man Speisopfer opfert, siehe, da kam ein Gewässer des Weges von Edom und füllte das Land mit Wasser.
When all the Moabites heard that the kings had come up to fight against them, all who were able to put on armor, from the youngest to the oldest, were called out and were drawn up at the border.
Da aber alle Moabiter hörten, daß die Könige heraufzogen, wider sie zu streiten, beriefen sie alle, die zur Rüstung alt genug und darüber waren, und traten an die Grenze.
And when they rose early in the morning and the sun shone on the water, the Moabites saw the water opposite them as red as blood.
Und da sie sich des Morgens früh aufmachten und die Sonne aufging über dem Gewässer, deuchte die Moabiter das Gewässer ihnen gegenüber rot zu sein wie Blut;
And they said, “This is blood; the kings have surely fought together and struck one another down. Now then, Moab, to the spoil!”
und sie sprachen: Es ist Blut! Die Könige haben sich mit dem Schwert verderbt, und einer wird den andern geschlagen haben. Hui, Moab, mache dich nun auf zur Ausbeute!
Aber da sie zum Lager Israels kamen, machte sich Israel auf und schlug die Moabiter; und sie flohen vor ihnen. Aber sie kamen hinein und schlugen Moab.
And they overthrew the cities, and on every good piece of land every man threw a stone until it was covered. They stopped every spring of water and felled all the good trees, till only its stones were left in Kir-hareseth, and the slingers surrounded and attacked it.
Die Städte zerbrachen sie, und ein jeglicher warf seine Steine auf alle guten Äcker und machten sie voll und verstopften die Wasserbrunnen und fällten alle guten Bäume, bis daß nur die Steine von Kir–Hareseth übrigblieben; und es umgaben die Stadt die Schleuderer und warfen auf sie.
When the king of Moab saw that the battle was going against him, he took with him 700 swordsmen to break through, opposite the king of Edom, but they could not.
Da aber der Moabiter König sah, daß ihm der Streit zu stark war, nahm er 700 Mann zu sich, die das Schwert auszogen, durchzubrechen wider den König Edoms; aber sie konnten nicht.
Then he took his oldest son who was to reign in his place and offered him for a burnt offering on the wall. And there came great wrath against Israel. And they withdrew from him and returned to their own land.
Da nahm er seinen ersten Sohn, der an seiner Statt sollte König werden, und opferte ihn zum Brandopfer auf der Mauer. Da kam ein großer Zorn über Israel, daß sie von ihm abzogen und kehrten wieder in ihr Land.
